Story rejected

I summarized it just to share, and I got flagged for violating the policy. I'm afraid to post stories now because they might be flagged as AI. No amount of appeals or emails would make any difference at this point.

I have no idea of this will work. But you could try resubmitting it and putting in the 'Notes to Admins' section something like "My story was flagged for AI, but this is not AI written. I typed it all myself using ____ word software. Please give it a second look." Then maybe someone with human eyes will see it. The only reason I'm even suggesting that is because as far as anyone here knows, Lit could be using a automated system that occasionally gives false positives for unknown reasons. And maybe adding something to the 'Notes to Admins' section can get your story passed a hypothetical automated AI flagging system so a real person can review it.

If you're certain the story has no AI written sections and you like the story, it's worth at least one extra try.

But if you already tried this and it didn't work, then ignore this all. You're just shit out of luck I suppose.

Oh good gravy!! Anyway, I haven't posted the story, so... meh!

Edit the story and remove any direct mention of Harrison's childhood and you should be okay.

I had a story rejected for politely mentioning that a guy had met a girl when she was 17 and in high school. I rewrote it so she was 19 and in community college. It had no serious impact on the story.

Thanks for nothing.
You misunderstood me. I said that if you wrote a story to that plot and published it, it would be rejected as a copyright violation. Vonnegut's work is under copyright. Nothing more or less.

EDIT: and certainly copyvio can survive here on Literotica, but it's a violation of the policy nonetheless.

Congratulations on your appointment to the position of Literotica story editor 🎉

I think you’re confusing 'copying' with literary parody. I am not copying and pasting anything. I’m a writer who took a 65-year-old short story and created an original story to explore a mother’s delayed grief and a veteran's rage. Why is speculative fiction a copyright violation, but celebrity fanfiction isn't?

It's a judgment call. Using actual characters from someone else's story seems to be a hard line for Laurel (if she catches it). She once rejected a story of mine for just mentioning a story by another Literotican (which I had not, in any way, copied).

I'm so sorry to hear that. I think I can just be a lurker here at this point. Thanks for replying!

So... was the story ever actually submitted and rejected?

Or was a synopsis posted here with an assertion that it would be rejected, if submitted? I'm still confuzzled.

The latter.

@Lolita30, I resubmitted the story pointing out that Carl Bradford, the other author, actually follows me and that in any case, I had not copied anything from him, just credited him as an inspiration. The story was published, and Carl was so unbothered he's now my volunteer editor.

Okay so what's up? Would it have made a difference if I had said, inspired by Kurt Vonnegut's 1961 story about a dystopian place where everyone is equal? and changed the names?

Seeing this again after a few hours, I feel a need to repeat what I said in my note to Laurel: my story had no character, situation, or location in common with Carl's, just the idea of a woman trying to endure and survive debt bondage. Very sexualized debt bondage.

Okay, thanks for letting me know. The whole situation, though left a bad taste in my mouth so...
