Support the AH Halloween Contestants Thread

At last check, Ghouls ... ended at:

4.78 / 36 / 3,358

... which is probably the best vote:view ratio I've ever had (and one of the worst for # views). Go figure.

My effort was definitely middle of the road:

a score of 4.54 from 48 votes and 10142 views.

The really nice thing is the 21 pc's.

:D

Alex, Colly, Impressive and Black Tulip have Hs for all their Halloween Stories.

That is a result for all of you. My score of 1 out of 5 shows why I promote the last place contest.

I just checked the top-rated horror stories, and I see that, as it stands right now, even though I won second place, my story is tied with Angeline and beaten by Cloudy and two of The Mutt's stories.

How does this happen? Does this reflect votes that have come in since the contest closed?

In any case, it shows you what a close and fickle thing winning a contest is.

You can split the check with me if it'll make you feel better.

:D

(my story was highly rated, but had only 40 votes--I suspect yours had more.)

Hell, I might thave to give you all of it.

As of this AM, "The Moth's Song" is rated at 4.76 with 46 votes. That's below some of the score other people are talking about.

What gives?

Congratulations to the winners! (says the perpetual also-ran, forcing a smile that teeters on the brink of a grimace).

As for the scores, the only thing I can figure is they've change some since Laurel did the final contest check.

A special tip-of-the-hat to Angeline, Lustylovers, The Mutt and all the other oh-so-close contenders. I've been there (once) and feel your pain.

And now, speaking of Halloween, here are my gruesome totals:

score: 4.59, votes: 70, views: 19900, PC's: 12

That puts me in the middle of the pack, cheek-by-jowl with Colly and Black Tulip. Hey, wait a cotton-picking-minute, that's a damn fine consolation prize.

Doc, Cloudy, Og, you folks can keep your awards and are welcome to them--especially if I can con Colly and BT into helping me with a certain dangling participle. :D

Congratulations, winners! It was a great contest this time, many many terrific stories! It was an honor to compete with all of you.

I'm pleased with how my trio did (all H's here, too, even that nasty pumpkin one, which was a surprise). My results:

In the Pumpkin Patch -- 4.51 / 41 / 7174

Spectral -- 4.52 / 25 / 4656

Touch of a Hand -- 4.73 / 75 / 20201

So, what's the next one to be?

Just out of curiosity, I checked the scores of the three winners earlier (morning, UK time) - they were all in the 4.8+ range - higher than my 4.81. I can only assume the readers subsequent to the competition close, and the results being posted, didn't have the discernment and excellent judgement of those who voted earlier (including me, by the way!)

I ended up with a rating of 4.62 with 26 votes and 3456 'reads' - a good score but not my best readings (non-human is a new cat for me!) - I think my score is mostly down to generous AH people so THANKS!!

You're more than welcome Goldie, but there was nothing generous in my voting.
You or anybody else only get a 5 from me when I think the story deserves it.

I give out lower votes just as easily.
Only things I don't give are a 1 and a 2.
That is a no-vote for me.

LOL yeah I'm with you - if I really dont like a story I dont vote!

My final tally

was 4.76, from 25 votes and 644 views. 6 PCs, too, of which four were from fellow contestants, so a public thank you to them. You know who you are!

On voting, as others have suggested, if a story deserves a 1 or a 2 I'll have back-clicked long before I'm required to vote.

4.56 on 61 votes, 52270 views. The excellent views a treat. That is a lot of readers quickly for me. Only a few of my stories have more after longer runs. The "H" is a nice bonus, since so many of my stories end up floating just under 4.50, and OI know once readers get deeper than New Stories, the H draws them to a writer.

since I entered the contest to expand my audience, I am very pleased.

Ending scores for The House on Wilshire Road
4.48 rating
67 votes( down from 76 after last sweep)
39650 views
5 PC's - Thanks to all who left one
