Thank you πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

When it stops, I'll stop
Now who's the one sounding self important?

You need to let it go, but you cant and you won't. Because your ego won't let you.

I've sat quietly on this just shaking my head and laughing at how you and several others go on and on and fucking ON with your petty vendetta and complain over and over and OVER again about how tired you are of seeing these particular threads.

And yet none of you can just SHUT THE FUCK UP about it. Nor be adults and walk away.

Just know - the rest of us see how petty and vindictive you all sound.

Yes. She addressed that already, in this very thread. Read back.

This is my point: you're doing the exact same thing.
They addressed it but are one of the biggest culprits of airing all their laundry here so it can be dragged through the mud. "Yes, it hurts when I touch a hot stove but let me keep touching it and blaming the site for all the burns."

'I'm doing the same thing' But what I don't do is when someone-like you're doing right now-points it out, I don't play victim, I don't say you're targeting me or picking on me. I don't report posts and claim personal attacks or try to get other people to defend me or attack you. You don't agree with me, its not the end of the world for either of us.

Cool.

Let's stop derailing the thread then, shall we? I doubt anyone is getting anything out of it.

The algorithms of most the major social media platforms are shaped by one observation: outrage and hate drive more engagement than anything positive.

Over time these algorithms have trained their human pets to react in a Pavlovian manner to stimuli in a way they are not even close to consciously controlling. It can be argued that the real danger to humankind is not technology like Artificial Stupidity, but technology specifically designed to magnify and normalize hate.

It’s an endorphin reward machine. I attack, I get the approbation of my clique, I get a hormone rush, I feel personally validated. So I rinse and repeat.

I suspect future chroniclers of our era - assuming our species lasts that long - will document this malign effect, and its collateral and direct damage, in excruciating detail.

It’s very sad for humanity.

I agree that the criticism often gets too personal. I don't like to see that.

But there are two good reasons why some of us criticize some of the views expressed in these threads, even though the criticism comes off as repetitious.

One, if someone wants to sound off about being upset about downvoting, that's one thing. It's their right to express their opinion. But when the discussion veers toward "the site is broken and it must be changed," then that's something we all have a right to weigh in on.

Two, I fear that what some others here have said is correct: the more we talk about this, and the more we publicly reveal how much it upsets us, and the more we engage in detailed statistical analysis of what's going on, the more incentive the trolls have to behave badly, AND perhaps the more sophisticated they get in their bombing. And that threatens to affect all of us, not just the few who are more vocal in their complaints. So we all have a vested interest in this issue, and how we discuss it in this forum.

Absolutely.

But there ways to do that without sounding like petty assholes with a vendetta against a particular author that they just cant let go of.

Your comment here is a good example of how to do that. πŸ˜‰

Could the same be said about complaining?

"I complain, I get the approbation of my clique, I get a hormone rush, I feel personally validated. So I rinse and repeat?"

Or, anything?

"I compliment, I get the approbation of my clique, I get a hormone rush, I feel personally validated. So I rinse and repeat?"

What makes each individual feel accepted?

And many of us laugh at you for acting like a little boy following around their crush like a smitten puppy.

I know you and others may not believe it, but I have a lot more friends here than you may think, we just don't run around the boards fawning over each other all the time. But things that have been said to them come back to me.

99% of the time I don't care what people think of me, say about me, lie to others about me etc. But there is that 1%, the one thing someone can say about me that I take personally and that's not only been said but continues to be said, just not publicly. I guess what I'm saying is petty is as petty does.

Same old routine. Get some new material.

It's mind blowing how unaware you are of just how ridiculous and petty you sound.

Ive made my point and have better things to do than argue with an old man yelling at clouds.

This is off topic, but really, 1,000 votes should be the benchmark to being on any top list. 100 votes is nothing. That's like your Top 100 fans voting.
I believe its 100 because some categories get so few votes, they will never see a higher benchmark. But the fact its only 100 does make it easy to get knocked down quickly.

Vote total is used to decide a tiebreaker as far as two stories with the same score but one has 200 votes one has 2000.

I don't stat hawk like a lot of folks here do, but one thing I've always looked at is score/vote total. I think its more impressive to see a 4.85 story that has thousands of votes than it is a 4.89 on a few hundred. That's a testament to how consistently its held up over time.

It’s kinda strange behavior.

I hate a thread and / or its poster so much that I’m gonna make damned sure it stays at the top of the thread list.

I don’t understand it at all really πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. Unless there is gratification to be had from outrage and people seek to feed their addictions.

Anyway - still a very happy girl today 😊. Stil very grateful to @Laurel ane @Manu

I meant for top lists, not contest, but I'm speaking in generalities. 100 votes is no measure of how loved a story is on a site with this many visitors.

The bigger the pool, the less 5s on a scale of 1 to 5 you're going to get.

No, I meant top lists, that's why the threshold is 100 because of lower voted categories

The contest minimum is 25 for the same reason.

So that's a "no" on the evidence then?

Posts can deleted now, but if people saw the posts, do you not believe them just because you don't like what you hear?

Then, you compare names, and cross check things said and look for similarities. Doesn't take long. And then you have to decide for yourself on what makes sense and what doesn't, but first, you need to put in a little bit of work. About the same amount of time as it takes scrolling through a topic.
