Thanksgiving Dinner

Only made with really heavy whipping cream. Not from a can, nor from a tub, and not only on a holiday.

This should be a poll if it hasn’t already been done.

Well, I meant they need a whip on their asses. But you are correct, as well. :)

You can do both you know.

Whip their asses and then lick the cream off of their... well, you get the picture. Hopefully anyway.

What's for dinner this coming Thursday? (snip)

We will have a few (14 to 18) people. My son and daughter in law are doing two 14 lb. turkeys, one in the oven one in the smoker. We will also have turkey gravy, stuffing, mashed taters, green beans with bacon and pearl onions and a shrimp appetizer to start.

Dessert will be a choice of Pumpkin pie, Apple pie with cinnamon roll crust, Key Lime cake, Chocolate pie, Chocolate mocha chocolate chip cheese cake with Raspberry sauce and Mincemeat pie.

By the time dinner and dessert is done no one will be moving for a while.

We can add the salad back into the roast beast and mashed potatoes dinner.

And I got the ingredients for the chocolate pie.

Pretty close to exactly what I'll be doing. Some people don't like smoked turkey, so one in the oven is for them and still be will good.

If you have people who are worried about their weight and don't want mashed potatoes, you can do mashed cauliflower. Steam it soft, mash, a little milk, some margarine and salt. Look it up on Youtube. Most years everybody likes that better than the mashed potatoes!

For my smoked turkey, I have a Weber Smokey Mountan that is my old reliable. The turkey is defrosting now and will be good to go Wednesday morning. Pat dry, hands under the skin everywhere to loosen, then I'll go with a dry rub. I get small bowl with ground sea salt, a little pepper, ground tarragon mustard, a little rosemary leaves chopped up and maybe some sage and thyme. Take a good bit in my hand and rub it under the skin all over the thighs and breasts (this is NOT a Lit chat! lol). Then some of the same mixture over the top of the skin with maybe a bit of olive oil. In the frig overnight. I don't wrap with plastic - just the naked rubbed bird which I think leads to nice skin the next day cooked.

I get the Weber stabilized at 350, throw a few chunks of apple or hickory wood in there, then on it goes. About 3.5 hours (I use a remote wireless probe).

Big thing is to get the turkey within 5 degress of final temp, then pull it and wrap with aluminum foil for at at least 30 minutes. If meal time is later, I'll wrap a bunch of cheap towels about the package and leave in a cooler.

When it's time to carve, that turkey will be insanely good. Mostly, smoke ring a little bit. Easy to carve.

My cousin went home. I will probably spend Wanksgiving in some internet circle jerk. Dinner could be a hotdog.

I'm kinda excited to make this pie. It's been several years. But I'm a sucker for meringue.

I MADE NOTHING! NOTHING! I'M GONNA JUST SHOW UP AND EAT!

Freeloader year: ACTIVATE

I spent 10 minutes searching the freezer for lingonberries (Alaskan lowbush cranberries) last evening to no avail, and then SWMBO walks over and just picks up a bag with exactly 4 cups of them in it. The cranberry sauce is made and jarred.

I do the cranberries, I fully expect someone else to provide me with every traditional side along with perfectly prepared Turkey in exchange for my sparkling presence.

Kind of betwixt and between. I had the small one late in life, and one brother had an entire second family with the younger second wife, so less kid/adult ratio than I grew up expecting. All of us have grown kids busy establishing their own traditions.

No idea who all will be there sometimes it becomes the extended family going all the way back to my now septuagenarian aunts and uncles or it might be a smaller Gathering. I don't know I just show up with a big bowl of cranberries and it's always more cranberries than anybody needs. I'm the only one with decent taste buds apparently.

The meringue pie shell came out beautifully. The chocolate is melted and cooling. The pie should be finished soon and then gets to set up in the fridge for the day. 😎

Still storming outside. The people living in the McMansion subdivision up the hill have no power. It's supposed to subside about 10a, in 2 hours. If so, there's plenty of time for the turkey to cook on the charcoal. First world problems.

My family and extended family, don't eat until Saturday. Today is a day for football, beer, and snacks, and catching up. Since 9am is approaching, the fun is about to begin. Friday is for shopping, and Saturday is an all day affair culminating in a two-turkey dinner, with corn, carrots, potatoes, mashed potatoes, gravy, peas, buttered rolls, bacon-packed stuffing, and NOTHING with marshmallows in it. And an assortment of pie afterwards.

Happy Thanksgiving and whatever that means to people today.
