Thanksgiving Dinner

Cranberry sauce is done. I wasn't sure how much grated ginger to try so I went easy on it. I went easy on the blueberries only because the small one ate about a quart of them leaving very few for my cranberry sauce. I added them last they floated making it look like there are more blueberries than there actually are.

I can't get fresh Maine blueberries here but what I should do is get frozen small Maine Blueberries next time.

Apparently, relatives of relatives share my love of cranberries.
Sparkling cranberry punch and a cranberry salsa dip.

It had cream cheese topped with ground cranberries, green onions, jalapeño, and cilantro. Would not have thought of pairing those things but it works really well.

I spent 10 minutes searching the freezer for lingonberries (Alaskan lowbush cranberries) last evening to no avail, and then SWMBO walks over and just picks up a bag with exactly 4 cups of them in it. The cranberry sauce is made and jarred.

Swear to god, I thought lingonberries was a purely N European thing. I recently tried to explain to some Americans how they are superior to cranberries in every way and they're all like "What did you say? Never heard of it."

I've only had them in the Ikea cafeteria and I have no idea if they are prepared properly, whether they are fresh, canned, frozen, or what? I'm assuming they're probably canned.

proper meringue! not the soft, barely set (half-cooked) gelatinous mess i've seen over here called "meringue". yours is crispy on the outside, airy, and i bet it has that chewy inner goodness

my own cooked cheesecake-topped-with-chocolate real cream turned out way better than i expected. the cream on top overnight seemed to lend a little more moisture to the cheesecake layer and the gingery base with melted down chocolate added a good crispness. H has just raided the pie for the second time. :)

They grow wild, here.

IKEA uses too much sugar in theirs.

Yes - it was actually, if I may say so, perfect meringue. It was a good day for it too. Not too humid. The pie was delightful. Insanely rich. Dense and airy at the same time. One piece of this was definitely enough. :D

I can't remember the last time I had mashed potatoes.

I'm like a recovering addict who just fell off the wagon.

An over cooked turkey, that was over cooked two days ago, warmed up in a big roaster full of some type of liquid, stove top stuffing (with a twist, added raisins), potatoes made from a box, gravey made with all corn starch, the saucer with can shaped cranberry sauce, some corn, noodle, macaroni and cheez whiz concoction, brown and serve dinner rolls that didn't make it to the brown part, and a perfectly made strawberry pie, with a perfectly delicate pastry crust.

I made and brought the pie.
have over half of it left.
I want a DNA test by Christmas!

This was the turkey recipe I followed, today. I recommend it. There were no potatoes or green beans in our meal. There was also a root vegetable tart, three types of cranberry sauce, fresh sourdough bread, Brussel sprouts w/bacon, turkey gravy, and pumpkin pie.

I laughed out loud.

With you my friend, with you. Not at your travails.

Pretty.

🙊 Thought and prayers, and no other leftovers. :rose:

Although, I must admit that we do the canned cranberry sauce. I’m not sure why, other than tradition, because no one eats it.

We do have that special talent.

lol lololol

i'm sorry. i feel for you, i do. :)

my ham was overcooked, too... partly from when i was trying to get the top crispy before and then--having sat it in an inch of chicken stock and covered with foil to try to redress that, with plans on recrisping the top just before serving--when all of a sudden the oven had to be whacked up to almost twice the temperature to cook more things brought over but not cooked and reheating the other prepared foods!
edible, still a good taste, but definitely on the drier side of wonderful  i have decided i don't like sharing my oven with other people  that extra cooking was mainly a dessert that could have cooked when the meat and other stuff came out and we were eating that. never mind, a good time was had by all, regardless.

Diced an apple, nuked it for a minute. Added a packet of instant apples and cinnamon oatmeal and water. Nuked two kinutes. Added a couple of heaping tablespoons of cranberry blueberry sauce.

Tastes like apple pie colliding with leftover cranberry on your plate. Delicious.
