I understood it was supposed to be different. Make a nomination. Make your case for your nominee. Ms. A should be the winner, because she did X, Y and Z. Others are persuaded, or they are not. Instead, we have people who seem to believe that the way to succeed is to tear down other authors.

We are out here doing emotionally risky things, writing stories that people read. We have enough drama from the nasty trolly segment of the internet. Now we gonna be sniping at other authors?

You don't know me, we've never spoken. I have one of your stories in my favorites list. If you've even heard of me, let alone read anything I've written, frankly I'd be shocked.

So when I tell you this, it comes from a place of purpose, and not because of any personal feelings.

I understand why you made the stand that you did. I do the same thing with my kids. If they're fighting over something, I take it away. Remove the item of chaos.

This, though... this is different. If you remove yourself from consideration for this award, then those toxic members? Their behavior becomes validated. The tactics become proven effective. Send enough hate out and the person you want to lose will quit.

Please, I beg of you to reconsider. Don't let the haters win.

One of the purposes of this award process is to bring writers others have found influential to the attention of those who don't know them. Several have been mentioned who write in categories into which I don't venture. Now I'll see what all the fuss is about. If one person thinks someone's worth nominating, I think I should give that someone a look.

The two obvious ones being Blackrandl1958 and HardDaysKnight (I'm familiar with several others).

Without Salandar's stories, I likely would have never submitted Chapter 1 of my Hard Landing series. Her story, The Actress, and the denouement of her series The Mechanic, moved me, and prodded me to attempt my own series.

Sorry, but your Hard Landing series is good enough to earn you a nomination and a second or three.

I didn't realise that was a collection of snarks - I thought that was squabbling just in the context of that parent thread all by itself. Wasn't hard to spot some of the camp followers though. Perhaps some folk don't understand irony .

Hard to argue that HDK hasn't been a huge influence on many writers. His Lady in Red, completed in 2019, has been all over the novels Hall of Fame for years, he mentors other writers and his many stories in other genres has been an inspiration to me.
