The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Good morning to early risers and day to our friends in Europe. Grandpa’s taxi is back this morning and so is Grandpa. Today is a gift and I plan to enjoy it.

I spent yesterday recovering physically from the long day as election inspector. I also found I was needed by my son and sister to comfort and console them about their feelings concerning the election. My friends needed me as comforter as well.

I went to dinner with others so I could recharge. After a good night sleep I am back to engaging each day as a gift. I wish you all the same!

This is very good advice, B2. No matter what side we're on politically, we are gifted our days, friends, and family. 🫂💕✨💝

Night hun. Pleasant dreams... 😘 🤗💋
I didn't sleep as long as I wanted. I had to get up and get showered before the plumber guy turned off all the water. Waited ALL day and he never showed. 😖😖

He has a complicated home situation, in the middle of a messy divorce and custody battle. I'm empathetic about his situation, however, every day he doesn't show pushes my project back just that much more. It is a first world problem and I'm trying ti be graceful and kind...

The bonus was that my girl and I napped on the couch for some really excellent sleep! 💤😴

I would always go practice driving during the first snow. The reations required are a bit different. One thing I would do was slam on the brakes at aoubt 45 or so. There was the time the truck swerved for some reason and I almost rolled it. I can still feel that adrenalin rush.
I have a 4X4 truck and an AWD SUV. It's the idiots who think they can go as fast in the snow as they can on dry pavement just because they have a monster truck.

Thankfully, I can usually get what provisions I need and hunker down. But even when I was working, I'd call in when I had a non-patient care job.

Good morning everyone, wherever you may be

It has become clear to me, during my still brief tenure in this group, that coffee is very important to many ‘groupies.’ Don’t ask me how I’ve managed to work this out, let’s just say that I’ve drilled down through the posted words to decipher the hidden subtext beneath!

Allow me, therefore, to give you a little insight into buying coffee in France.

The French for ‘a coffee’ is ‘un café’ but, if you ask for this you will get a small black coffee, almost espresso size, served in a glorified egg cup. Bear in mind that there is no takeaway coffee culture in France, other than in Paris or one of the major cities, so you sit in a bar to drink it or stand at the counter to do as it’s cheaper if you drink it this way.

If you want milk with your coffee you immediately identify yourself as a foreigner. You can have milk but you have to ask for it when you order and what you get is milk milk! Stuff that comes from a cow. Don’t even think of asking for oat milk, soya milk, almond milk or anything that is not milk from a cow because you will probably get deported!

If you don’t want sugar…tough. You will almost always be given a packet of two sugar lumps. Many French people dunk the sugar lump on the hot coffee for a few seconds then eat it like a sweet!!

You can get a (slightly) larger coffee, ‘un café allongé,’ which is the original espresso in a larger cup but with added hot water. The previous comments about milk still apply here.

You can now get ‘un café crème’ (espresso with hot milk) or a cappuccino (espresso with foamed milk) but these are still small drinks by UK or US standards. If you want a 20oz coffee, emigrate.

This public information post was NOT brought to you by the Tourist Board of France!

Have a nice day

Thanks and I did for years but it’s starting to take its toll. I need tons of rest now just to get through and then a recovery day when I get back. I say I’m going to retire in seven years but I’d love to do it sooner. I keep threatening to retire and go herd goats in the alps or some other low stress job!🤣

Everyone have a great day! Raptor MZ.

Is goat herding anything like a goat roping, H? 🤣🤣🤣

Magnificent pic! 😍😍

I fucking loathed group projects.

Loathed, I say.
I did, too! There're always the ones who do minimal work and want to coast on the backs of the other group members.

Fortunately, by the time I was in that program, I knew how to deal with those people; I was a Nursing professor by then.

I was in the program with two of my friends, one of whom was a president at one of the local hospital systems. We were able to pick and choose others who wanted to join our group. (We had a reputation)

We always let prospective members know how the group worked and what the rewards/consequences would be for their actions. People tended to move through the program in a cohort so by the 2nd or 3rd class, we pretty much knew who we were dealing with.

Yesterday was rough. Been trapped in this house for almost a year now.

This time of year I get sicker than normal outside, so leaving for even a couple hours leaves me sick for a couple of days.

It's getting to the point where I need to abandon nearly everything we've worked for over the last 25 years, pull up stakes and start over somewhere else. Not sure I have the energy for something like that. But can't do that yet anyway, some things need to wind down here. Really struggling with it right now. Fuck. Just fuck!

Hope you are all having a better day than this one is starting out to be! Lol
Have you researched other areas where you might do better? I'm so sorry! 🫂🫂🫂

Yep. It is in German village. In the 70s it was a run down place now it is a very artsy fartsy place and VERY expensive to live there.... I may need a new suspension because driving in German village is rough.....
There is a small town in the central WA mountains called Leavenworth. It's similar. Now famous for being Christmas town. WAY too expensive to live there!

I don’t take driving in the snow too lightly, but I do something similar. I want to see how my truck is going to handle the snow. Not all snow is the same.

I want to be confident driving in the white stuff with as few surprises as possible. The big surprise, is typically how other people drive…
Yep. And it's tough to get away from them or anticipate their fuckery! 🤬🤬
