The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Announcement:
Soup Season is Here!!

Tried making a simple Mushroom Barley soup tonight. A broth soup, not cream. I don't always play well with dairy and don't need the extra calories... even though that Creamy Mushroom Soup recipe from @HumpDayHoratio has me all 🤤 šŸ˜‹

And I haven't forgotten the Bean and Barley Recipe from @B2fromA2looking4U. I've got the ingredients for that one all ready, too.

Welp - fucked up the roux
That sent me off on a hunt.
A hunt for an even simpler Mushroom and Barley Soup recipe than the one I had found and botched.

I'm pivoting with the veg I already cooked tonight. Will use my frozen shitaake broth with them.

But my next soup adventure?
This sounds perfect...
Slow Cooker Mushroom Barley Stew

If the info in the post is true, this motherfucker can cook itself while I do my other PT.

Now that's a recipe I can get behind!!
Lordy I can even smell it...yum

I'm so sorry about your friend. MS can be relentless. ā˜¹ļø
Very nice you could make time to see him. Being homebound like that can be very isolating. You sure find out who your true friends are at those times.

How much more wood do you think you'll process once the kiln is completed?
Is it the kind of kiln that can also be used for pottery? If yes, would you rent kiln time to local artists?
That is what friends do.

The kiln is designed for wood, rather than pottery. I could conceptually use it for firewood too. But its main purpose will be to dry boards. I got some really nice cherry a few weeks ago from a friend and instead of use it for firewood, I got it milled into boards.

Bit to really sell it, you have to kiln dry it… otherwise it can take up to three years to dry it naturally. Kiln drying can dry it in 6-8 weeks.

These boards are 3ā€ thick.

Ah - I forgot the part about the wood being boards... not the firewood stand wood.
Silly me 🤭

Looks good so far.... good luck.

Good morning denizens of the diner. I do hate autocorrect.

I had a busy fun day especially in afternoon and evening with friends playing board games. One had a visitor from the UK. She was funny and the teasing with h her cousin was better than any game.

Time to get coffee and memes. Get well Lili and travel safe OM.

Another long day. Meetings and then more meetings.

I broke free at lunch to see my buddy with MS. I brought a pizza. He’s in a bad way. Completely home bound and immobile. Legs don’t work and only one arm works. He’s gonna need home health help.

It’s really tough to see - but I’m gonna help out where I can.

Then back to work.

Sold a lot of firewood this week.

Gonna work on my solar
Kiln this week. Wanna get it fully skinned and the insulation in this weekend. I’m off on Veterans Day so I’ll try to get the roof on then or paint it if it’s dry.
Are we going to get pictures?

I threw a coffee mug on the concrete floor after tossing a boss outta my office. This was many moons passed. That job didn't end so well, but I'm still glad to be gone from there.
Did the cup break or bounce?šŸ˜‚. My mind goes to strange places.

I felt like throwing a boss or CEO out. One asked me to do something illegal on a federal grant. I said no but the could always do it anyway and go to jail too. I promised to visit them there šŸ˜‚
