The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

I’m only vaguely aware of how the Brit leagues work…teams have to have a certain amount of success to move to Premier? The big guys, Man U, Arsenal, Hotspur, are perennial league teams?

I’ve wondered here in the States with college portals and the upending of the Conferences, would we ever migrate to something like this?

College teams with loads of money are allowed to get say pro football players (the kids are allowed to get paid now anyhow) and then if they win the championship could move to an NFL slot for a year?

It would be a long way off and tons of tweaking, but the CFB is heading towards something like Super Conferences anyhow.

It’s not a war memorial, but it has the same effect. The Memorial in Oklahoma City...

For me…I couldn’t do it again. I’ve yet to visit either the Wall or Arizona. Hawaii is the last state I need to check off…when I do, I’ll visit. DeeCee…I’m there tons. Can’t seem to get to the Wall…don’t know if it’s timing or avoiding it on some level. I think I would have to prepare myself.

We did Dachau when living in Germany. I wont do another holocaust memorial either.
I haven't been to the Oklahoma City Memorial... my aunt was there at the time. For me, the stories she told were enough. 😥

I haven't been to the Wall in DC, but have family there so will ask when planning my next visit.

I did visit the Holocaust Museum in DC. IMHO - very well curated and organized. Be warned - it is A LOT.

Like most museums, it has more stuff packed into its space than can be consumed and digested in one visit.

It has the added punch of the emotional impact from the subject matter as well. I went with a brother of mine. At various points in our visit we each had moments when we told the other we needed to move away from the current exhibit and would reconnect down the line.

Could I go back again and again until I've seen all there is at this museum? Sure

But could I?

We have a system of promotion and relegation which has seen clubs like Oldham and Notts County fall all the way from the Premier League to the fifth tier, called the National League.
Wrexham have achieved three consecutive promotions to climb from the NL to the Championship, and it will be interesting to see if Ryan Reynolds will inject or raise the money necessary to continue rebuilding the Wrexham stadium and sign players capable of getting them into the top flight.
All bar two of the teams in the National League are full time professionals, with an increasing number of clubs in the level below, the National League North and South, following suit.
Former Liverpool, Newcastle and England striker Andy Carroll is playing at this level for Dagenham, but got sent off in his first match!
The Football League was launched in 1888, with that very first competition won by Preston North End.
The FA Cup began even earlier, in 1872.
I'm impressed by the way football (soccer) is growing in the States, especially with Lionel Messi raising the profile of the sport by playing for David Beckham's Miami team.
They seem to be selling out the tickets at every stadium they visit.
Hosting the World Cup will help to raise the profile even further, but the astronomical cost of tickets will make it impossible for ordinary fans on low wages to afford to go.

A13 trunk road to the sea

The Wat Tyler Center is right off it.
Brilliant song! Thanks Wonderer.
"Starting in Wapping and ending in Shoeburyness ... down the A13."
For those of us who often queue for hours to cross the River Thames at the Dartford Crossing (bridge southbound or tunnel northbound), this is a very special song!
Billy Bragg is now a well-known political commentator.
BTW, the song obviously borrows heavily from the Route 66 lyrics.
There's a well-known biker's cafe on the A21 in Kent just outside a village called Hurst Green.
The sign outside says "Get your chips at Route 66."

Time to take an extended lunch.

11am yesterday: here’s a hot project (we’ll call it project A) we need this asap

Me: stops work on set (I’m a photographer) rebuilds set to do project A.

11:45 yesterday: oh please switch to this other project, it’s critical. Editors are already working on it.

Me: strikes set, switches to project B. Thus far no photography is accomplished, just set changes.

Me: produces 6 hours of work on project B. Checks with producer.

Producer: tell me more about project B and why it’s such a priority.

Me: uh because you defined it as such?

Producer: we’ve now lost critical time on project A this should have been done this morning.

Me: considers going to the library and taking a leisurely lunch.

I've been to the three 911 Memorials
The New York City Towers, The Pentagon & Somerset county in Pennsylvania.
They were heart wrenching. I was in tears visiting the memorials. I was in New York on business the day the World Trade Towers fell...not in that area though, but I was stuck in traffic trying to get home. I hat to stay with family in Connecticut for a few days while I figured another way home.

I've worked for that producer... and his brother... and his uncle... bag of dicks, all of them
Enjoy your lunch 😁

I think it’s a direct rip off of rt 66, but a classic take on it.

Front of mine from work lives in Thundersleigh. He’d never heard the song before. He said “how in the fuck does a bloke in new jeeeersey know about this?”

He’d never heard the song before and was quite amused.

I know it’s bloody cold but when we get a clear sky and low einter sun the hill just glows in its golden cloak

Thanks for finding that. I was lucky enough to go to an air show and meet Doolittles's copilot, Dick Cole. He wrote a book and was selling and signing them under the wind of a B25, the bomber they flew to bomb Tokyo. It was like touching history. I got the book, a picture with him and his autograph. I got to talk to hime about Eglin AFB where they trained and where I was stationed years later.
