The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Last nite was amazing.

In April I completed 15 years at my job, plus my boss had 30 years and my colleague also had 20 last year. They allowed us to combine them all together for one large anniversary party. (I wasn’t technically allowed cuz they only allow an anniversary party on a ten year anniversary… but they had some nice light food and we were allowed to have one beer or wine….)

It was nice and a lot of alumni came who were retired. Our spouses were all invited and showed up.

And one of my buddies from Alabama who was a team liaison showed up! I couldn’t believe it. He works for a competitor and set it up so he could do business from his office in Philly.

And there were some nice speeches and I may have given one. Wow… what a magical night… so many people I have known for 15 years and who have helped shape my career and been good work colleagues or friends.

Wow.

That is really special that they bring in some retirees. Our work friends are like a separate family. I am not certain the younger generation will have such an experience as they tend to do shorter work place terms. Glad you had a very good time.

Hosting the World Cup will help to raise the profile even further, but the astronomical cost of tickets will make it impossible for ordinary fans on low wages to afford to go.
That is the problem.

I used to be a ticket holder for Red Bull NY and it was a great deal. I think it averaged to something like $11 per game per seat back then in 2012 ish.

Many fun memories of those seasons in the early teens. My daughter and I still go every few years, but it is not as cheap now.

Mornin' everyone. Cold morning here. We hit 16F this morning, coldest it's been since April 4th. Heavy frost on everything.

Finally starting to feel a little better, been a rough couple of days. Might actually get some project stuff done tonight, on the home stretch of getting ready for winter. One big task to wrap up, and maybe a few small ones. After that it's time to start messing with fun projects for a while.

Hope you all have enough caffeine to have a good day today!
Glad you’re starting to feel a bit better. There a sinus thing going around.

It’s not a war memorial, but it has the same effect. The Memorial in Oklahoma City. I was there on business around 20yrs ago, so only ten or eleven years after the bombing.

At that point they still had the original fence with little flags and teddy bears still up. Just looking over that link, they still have a section of the original where people place things.

The water works building across the plaza was were the museum is. You start out on the top floor, walking through a maze of items recovered. They have recordings of the local morning news going on; weather reports, local interest, etc…

Then you go into a room and sit down. The actual seats from the building where you get your water permits for projects and such. They have the recording of Mr. Look’n for a Permit and the procedures he has to go through when BOOM! 💥

The recording picks up the blast. It’s not like Hollywood where there’s a big boom and it’s over. This blast built on itself. It was a series of blasts…almost like a rolling thunder type sound, but getting louder…

The room goes dark, then a curtain is pulled back rapidly at the front and pictures of all the victims are there in front of you. It’s shocking, it’s emotional, and it’s still emotional all these years later.

Then the door slides open on the side and you work your way down the floors as the investigation and everything unfolding. You hear the sirens, the news reports they show the initial shock and confusion.

This was after 9/11, so they included a memorial for that at the bottom.

For me…I couldn’t do it again. I’ve yet to visit either the Wall or Arizona. Hawaii is the last state I need to check off…when I do, I’ll visit. DeeCee…I’m there tons. Can’t seem to get to the Wall…don’t know if it’s timing or avoiding it on some level. I think I would have to prepare myself.

We did Dachau when living in Germany. I wont do another holocaust memorial either.

Didn’t mean to dim the mood…the MZ——

I agree HDH… these things are too much for me. They hit hard.

I’ve always wanted to go to the imperial war museum but was not prepared for it.

The ww1 exhibit was amazing but just too emotional.

The Vietnam memorial in dc is good. But also heavy duty…

So many lives gone… and for what?

I agree. The Wall in DC is a somber place, and yet at first glance, it doesn't really seem that it would be, or at least not to me. Being Present was different.

Off to "manage" some weasels. Manage to hurt their feelings. We'll see what havoc the feds have wrought, if any.

I didn't think too much of it from the pictures I had seen. When I finally got there and saw all the names and then found the names of guys I knew................

Saw this one twice last year. Once by myself during the day, and then as a night time tour group. Only one name I know on that one, and did find him. Some people don't get it.
I only personally know of one name on the wall. The father of the gal that introduced my wife and I. If you remember that movie We Were Soldiers, it’s about the battle he was killed in. I’d like to see the wall one day.

Morning all. Off to get vehicles inspected. Get the tribe ready to head to TX and do some work around Mommas house. Took her to Doc yesterday. They’ve cleared her to cement that broken bone and he suggested going ahead and cementing the T10 to support the 11 & 12 which were both broken. Bad news is her spine will be curved so she’ll never be totally upright again. We joked she went from 5’8” to 6” in one fell swoop!🤣

HEY…you know what day it is?

Yer MZ——
