The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

I had pneumonia the flu all at the same time.... i tried to go work a shift in the er.... i was sick....noone noticed

I also went in to svt during a code. My coworkers didnt notice. The guy i was hanging a nitro gtt on said i didnt look so good.... i finished my shift after i did the vagal removal and slowed my heart rate down
Should you go into the ER with the flu?

Should you go into the ER with the flu?
I was the nurse working in the er.... haha

There is flu and there is flu. Try to stay safe at home keep fever down and drink water ...drink drink drink
If you cant control fever or start to puke go in....there is nothing to cure the flu only symptom management.... kids and oldsters are a little more tender so would keep a closer eye on them.... they usually do ok and then CRASH they are not

Oh get your flu shits and stay away from sick people and wash your gands frequently

In the er triage rarely if ever did anyone do anything to help manage at home they wanted antibiotics for a virus or a quick cure

Good morning denizens of this wonderful greasy spoon. What’s on your mind this morning? And come back soon Oldermom- we miss you!
Oldermom, we agree!

On my mind. You sure you want the answer to that?

I am thinking, if I hear of anyone sitting around a fire pit drinking beer while I'm looking at several feet of snow...

Oyster stew was my mom’s xmas eve tradition...she lives it. I will drink the broth but i cant eat oyster.... it is a texture thing.

The texture thing is a high hurdle for some. Oysters were always a part of coastal living growing up, and we had then in any “R” month if’n it wasn’t too hot. Especially when we’d go harvest them off the oyster rocks. I’ve only recently come to understand Oyster Stew was a Christmas Eve tradition for most. We would do it anytime we had any left over from a roast or on really cold days.

The stew came out…oh man…it’s always good…it was FANTASTIC this batch! Three pints of some really big oysters and lots of oyster liqueur they were packed in. Local to boot.

I watched the race and sent momma a text…be over afterwards. Got there around noon. We decorate some more, polish off the beans from the day prior. Watch a Christmas movie (did I say she’s in the spirit?), get updates on our little travelers stuck in Austin, TX due to delays, fix some things that needed fix’n, and listened to Andre Bocelli and his family sing Christmas songs…did I mention she’s in the spirit?

It was about this time she pipes up and tells me she put the star on the tree. Now this is a big tin deal, that she Jerry Rigged by gluing two halves together. I didn’t notice it…because nothing gets by me🙄…when it dawns on me.

How the F did she get up there and hang it? 🫩

So now I’m pissed. More so at my self than her. I should have spent the night…mainly to make sure she’s not climbing like a squirrel all over the house hanging decorations. It sort of ruined our fun time as I had to lecture my 82 yr old toddler on the dangers of broken back momma’s climbing ladders! She fell off one a couple years ago but it was n the yard and nothing but pride was harmed.

So, stewing about it, and on Bocelli Christmas special #3…I threw in the towel…called SWMBO to come pick me up ASAP! She got another lecture from SWMBO and I went home and drank a half bottle of wine…

The struggle is real…off to my happy place or an institution today…

For me, it’s a taste thing! And every once in a while, getting that fucking grain of sand when eating an oyster…😂
That grain of sand is just a really small pearl…

Happy Anniversary! Enjoy Philly. It’s a good overnight for us now that put us up in the city. I’ll keep that place in mind next time I’m there.

Being from the South I do love my pecan desserts :). Pecan pie bars sound amazing.

During the holidays I can splurge on the sugar a bit ;)

Let me know if you get the urge to make more :)

Having done this a few times I recommend:

OK…here’s the Monday morning Spoon arm wrestling match…

How is Pecan pronounced?

In my corner of the jungle down South we say pea-Can…

Pecan….just like it’s spelled. (Pe) Can…

That French Twist y’all put on it…no…just no! 🤣

Today was spent cutting up logs, loading them on our trailer and moving them down to the log splitter. We split about 1/3 of it, maybe a cord. For dead ash, it was surprisingly wet. It’ll have to season for a few months. It dries quickly and I’ll kiln dry some of it too.

I think im gonna run out of firewood this year.

21,000 steps.

The missus and i made an outdoor fire, drank a Pabst and also got some local pizza.

I took 1/2 of a 5 mg edible. Def helping my back pain tonite .
90 minutes of table tennis in the morning, followed by 90 minutes of padel in the afternoon: 24,000 steps aged 72. Racquet sports help you live longer!

The Scots call it a Dundee Cake. It’s a better recipe because you avoid the typical gummy like citrus junk they pawn off in commercial fruit cakes.
Hey B2…ever done a Figgy Pudding? Was sitting around looking for something different to make this Christmas and thought…why not?

Maybe some of our Mates from across the pond have some experience? I see there are two ways of doing it; Baking and Steaming.

The steaming looks involved and to be honest…that doesn’t sound appetizing!

If you Google British Figgy Pudding you will see loads of different recipes! We love our old-fashioned steamed puddings. I guess you could use an air fryer these days to achieve the same result in half the time.

FYI. You can get 'em in there, but it's really hard to air up tires on both sides when you want to get 'em out. (If said tires tend to flatten over time...)

Don't ask how I know. Just trust this knowledge, the source, and the infallible nature of Murphy.

I do, I do, and I know.

And no, we are so not now married.

I spent way too much money getting outta the last one.
