Numerous times, I've hit them so hard that I looked in my rear view mirror to see if I left my front end in the road.

I really work to avoid them. I used to always point them out when the wife was driving, but then she'd hit them anyway.

But then learned that saying "Quick, hit that pothole!" would cause her to swerve away from it.

I don't know why it works, but if you're married you probably understand...

This guy was Stan, from somewhere around GA, or maybe AL - I don't remember. He's the guy who "knew" the Allman Brothers. He was a piece of work. Stetson hats - had one style he liked, so he had five of them, all with the same Injun Jewelry adornments. Lotsa other Injun Jewelry, too, the silver and turquoise stuff. Cuff bracelets, the belt, and I don't remember what else. He wore boots, but I didn't know enough about them then to know what was what. He was a walking stereotype of Allah knows what.


Things I don't remember are things I have purposely forgotterized about him.

Mine got stitched by a number 1 phillips. Never did find the handle. All wheel drive had to replace all 4 while I was away enjoying family, fried and
rotisserie'd turkeys. No inner tube.

And talking of damage I hit a pothole in the storm that’s hitting us …burst a tyre and just managed to limp the car home… hoping it’s only the tyre!

On the way home I got rear ended by a girl who probably slid on the wet pavement. I'm fine and there's no obvious damage to my mid-sized SUV. Her little Hyundai, however, did not fare so well. I'll take it into the dealership probably next week for them to check it over. I already talked with the girl's mom. They seem like normal, sane people so I'm not anticipating any problems.

When you hear a negated statement (e.g., "Don't touch the stove"), your brain initially imagines the positive action ("touching the stove") and then has to deliberately suppress or reverse that idea. This extra "reversal process" takes more time and cognitive effort compared to processing an affirmative statement ("Touch the handle").

Maybe the affirmative statement is causing her to overcorrect, thus missing the pothole?

Thank you OM for the coffee and memes. It’s cold out but getting colder down to single digits. The windchills are wicked today.

According to the news, the roads have icy spots. I will drive very carefully like last night.

I’d settle for a little of that, half way in between would be ideal, only first week of summer, second day over 40c, fresh winds fanning fires, only getting smoke so far I so can’t complain
