The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

@Lilianna23 and @Wat_Tyler

You have inspired me. I found this box of old tank models I made when I was a teenager. I saw them in the basement a couple of months ago and now I’m going to start a new Christmas tradition.

I went downstairs to work out and got a little sidetracked!

Get it? Tanks? Tracks??

A tankers Christmas!

Looks like fun! 😁

The local pronunciation here is Aay-ster or awe-ster…

********MOMMA IS CANCER FREE!********

Took her to the oncologist yesterday and got the good news! Very relived! We took the last of the nut cake to my uncle and spent some time with him. He gave us the thumbs up of approval so after all these yeas we might havre finally nailed the old recipe down.

Had some lunch down at the beach and all in all had a great day. Hope all made it through Monday…it was a good one for us!

Excellent news, H! The best! 🤗💞✨💖

I showed her your snow villages and she LOVED it! Especially the ski hill!

She is sick she can’t set up her snow villages (she inherited a couple from two sisters plus what she’s collected) this year. Two reasons…she physically can’t do it this year and a very inquisitive two yr old is living with her! I thought about just setting it up myself, but might punt on that…
2 year olds are little municipal demolition experts for snow villages. I think you made a wise choice, H! 😅

Quick catch up then off to PT and bed

Nominee: Out of Context Quote of the Day

Here in the US, we would call those either a Granola Bar or an Oat Bar.

In the US, flapjack is synonymous with pancake or hot cake.

(In case you take a shift at the grill ;) )

US Pancake/Flapjack (Thick, fluffy)
  • UK Equivalent: Pancake (but usually thinner, more like a crêpe) or Scottish Pancake (thicker).
  • Description: Made with a leavening agent (like baking powder) for fluffiness, pan-fried.
UK Flapjack (Oat bar)
  • US Equivalent: Granola bar, oat bar, or cereal bar.
  • Description: Baked bars of rolled oats, butter, brown sugar, and syrup, cut into squares.
Key Difference
US: Flapjacks = Pancakes (batter).
UK: Flapjacks = Oat bars (baked).

That's it for me...

Thanks for going the extra mile with the flapjack / pancake analysis!
What you call flapjacks are sold as pancakes in the UK, always best served warm with butter and/or honey or maple syrup.
The industrial UK flapjacks / oat cakes are often disgusting, made with cheap fats and too much processed garbage.
The home-made ones, on the other hand, are glorious inventions with all manner of fruity and nutty flavours.

Money does crazy stuff to people. 😤🤬 It's why it's so important to have everyone who needs to know aware of the financial picture. So many times one partner lets the other take care of the money then ends up blindsided. We made sure that wouldn't happen to either of us.
We are transparent with all finances and each know where all of the critical things are…

I am a flapjack and sausage rolls snob.

(Only because we have wonderful tea shops in quaint little English villages where the above mentioned items provide my grading standards!)

Bigger towns, of course, have identical high streets with all the usual coffee shop chains.

Important question: Why does Starbucks coffee taste so bad?
I am just anti chain.

I am always pro mom and pop shop. Love those little English towns with nice pubs or tea places.

Makes me wanna go back!
