The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

We're in the middle of a good storm. Had to go out and clear driveways this morning, and realized I needed fuel. So, off the the next town over for a couple of 5 gallon cans worth. They sure rape you for #1 diesel now. Damn near $5 a gallon!
(But still way better than having it gel up. Ask me how I know...)

Anyway, we're at 10F, 30mph winds, and snow falling.

We're supposed to meet some friends tonight for dinner. We haven't called it either way, yet. This looks bad, but as long as the drifting isn't too bad, it'll be fine.

Be careful.

There would be death and dismemberment and hell to pay if that was my vent! WOW!

We had a problem with flying squirrels a few years back. I don't know if you've ever seen them up close. Very beautiful little critters, but destructive. Ended up setting som big rat traps, wound the trigger with yarn, and mashed peanut butter in there. (Must humane way I could come up with to dispatch them in the middle of the night).

Not sure what size squirrel you have , but maybe the same thing, but with a piece of steel wire added as a tether would work???

We have gray squirrels and reds here. They grays are awesome at the bird feeder, and I've never seen the. Damage anything. The reds get the 20Ga every time...

Wat has what he calls his SSS - Squirrel Sniping System. It's a Marlin 60 with a Bushnell 3x9 scope zero'ed gnat's ass at 25 yards with subsonic ammo. The semi-auto will still cycle that round, oddly enough. It doesn't alert the neighbors.

Of course, Out West, There are almost no neighbors to alert.

Morning all. Had a productive day yesterday. Happy that the Elf problem was taken care of when I get up this morning and what do I hear? 😮. Fevered clawing and scratching! I go outside, and sure enough…there he is. Sitting by the newly Jerry-Rigged vent! Just looking at me. I clap and say “scat” and he runs a few feet, stops, and just looks at me. Not one ounce of fear in his wee bones.

So I laugh, thinking I’ve outsmarted this furry little bastard, when he runs to the one vent that I couldn’t reach yesterday (it didn’t look violated TBH) and stops…but he doesn’t go down. I’m grinning ear to ear when I think…maybe I should go make sure I didn’t trap one in there.

Go back in…SHIT…I hear him. Run back down and look up…no tree rat to be seen. 😭. So now…

The plan is to sit by the fire and observe…see if he’s going down the uncovered vent. If not…then back up on the roof to unplug the vent so the trapped bastard can get out…then have to decide…buy a trap and get him myself or call a guy who sets traps for $150 a day till they nab the critter(s)…or get a .10c pellet and brush up on my sniping skills…🤷🏻‍♂️

The first shot is from the attic…they’ve eaten the pipe a good foot down…plus the rubber boot and the roofing to make the hole bigger! The last shot I just balled some chicken wire up and capped it…BTW the caps I bought wont work because there’s nothing to attach them too…they ate it!

So…HoHoHO…it’s off to fight squirrels we go…

——Christmas Market MZ——. Get in the spirit people!

A few years ago I was at war with the tree rats. Trapping, shooting. I thinned the population sufficiently.

I like the Christmas market pic. I was chatting w a friend from work who had a long visit to Munich and spent some time last weekend at the Christmas market w her husband. They loved it!

The Winter Solstice is Tomorrow the longest night of the year.. Then it slowly starts getting more light out..

Yes, being home is never overrated IMO!

If you go, hope you have a lovely time and safe home again. 🫂
Driving in drifting snow is almost as challenging sometimes as driving in a whiteout.

Hi NB. My weather is the same. Tomorrow it’s cold and then 50 by Christmas!😮
We always had snow showers on Easter Sunday but Christmas would often be in the 50s and gorgeous (during the day).

My dad and the dad across the street would often disappear for hours on Christmas Day. They would play 9 holes of golf using orange golf balls. :ROFLMAO:
His second name is Mr Bad. 😂
True!

I got tired of loading, and I rediscovered a couple of muscles that I haven't used lately. That's always fun. I made headway, which was what really needed to happen.
In another lifetime, when I had cats - two of them, I toyed with the idea of training them to make biscuits on my back. Only to realize my two precious babies made no biscuits - eveh.

Treat yourself to a massage when it's done. All those muscles you forgot you had will be thankful. Who knows - maybe the masseuse will be cute, too. 🤭

It's probably just being a touch out of shape there. I'll probably do enough stuff Out West next week to make other things tender, too. A hot shower goes a long way. And I will have Little Miss Bixit Maker
