The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

They didnt even have to tell us what happened... the burns told the story.... they didnt even like trail it... it was pour gas on and thriw a match.... or they would use white gas (i think what is called) even worse....
Kid in my high school did that. Poured a bunch of gas down well then threw down a match.

Literally scarred for life…

I drive my kids crazy when i get on the roof of my house. Climb the ladder from the padio to the garage roof. Pull the ladder up. Then onto the upper roof. Getting down is a little sketchy....lol
You got more guts than I ever will!

I don’t mind too much just being on a ladder and cleaning out gutters. But once I get off the ladder and onto the roof…. Like Miss k, I’m feeling all queasy inside.

And it’s like a zillion times worse for me, coming off a roof and trying to get on a ladder.

Used to work on high things. 80ft or more. The running joke was don't fall. There's no future in it!
When I told my dad, I went to study history in college, he told me the exact same thing;

“Son, don’t study history. There’s no future in it.”

True story.

And 80ft heights??? No way! A friend of my ex wife’s used to work for the Port Authority and he was a bridge painter. He was in a safety harness, but fell. He lost his nerve and could never get up on the big bridges again…

Got the west side bush-hogged after he got the bushhog repaired and reinstalled. The crotchety old tractor ran happily enough, and the grass was dry so we mowed in 2nd gear, which was just a bit bouncy. It was funny to look across the street and to see the ducks in the pasture. They travel almost as one. I'm not sure who does the thinking/leading, but maybe they share a couple of brain cells and that gets it done. They really do cover some territory in their daily walkabouts. I suppose that they find small bugs or the like to snack on as they forage. The big critters don't seem to mind them - well, the prey-type big critters. I'm not sure they'd fare all that well with Daisy out and about.
Sounds like a good day at the ol homestead!

That the new case machine? Or the old fords?

You know, with the HDMI compatible TVS, if they're not smart TVS, you might be able to use someone's old T. V as a monitor you just need a hdmi cable
That’s what we did to see if it was the monitor or the computer. I ended up getting another monitor as it was bigger than the TeeVee we had to check it. It was one of those curved ones for gaming anyway…the kid has earned it.

I’ve also used that pulling the ladder up technique, but like you say…sketch getting down…and I’m just coming off Short Term Disability…don’t need another round!🤣

Speaking of…had both young un’s over so went roof climbing. Was able to drill out old half rodent eaten pipe, and after another trip to find a 2” to 3” adapter, my mushroom cap Bushy Tailed deterrent worked like a charm. I spent more time looking for the damn adapters at Lowe’s than I did on the roof it seemed.

The only hitch, and there’s always that, is the pipe was 1 1/2 instead of two. Instead of delaying the whole project, I just slid the 2” over and ran a screw through the flashing into the pipe. Hurricane proof…or so I hope! 🤣. Caulked it all up and lit a fire in the pit with a bottle of something red!

Enjoy your Sunday folks!

Frickin allergies are wild. Ever have them trigger a fight or flight type response???
Unfortunately I default to fight mode...
Gotta move slow and calm and deliberate when that happens.

Interesting day today. I tend to be more of a hunter, but a bit of today was watching offspring and mom do the gatherer thing. They can cover stores, shelves, and racks faster than I can think. I'm 100% convinced the sexes are wired differently.
I just pushed the cart.

Until the wood working store. But that was an in and out. Target sighted, acquired, and back out. At least they got a few minutes of looking around a store with zero interesting things to them... 😆

Anyway, winding down here. Back on the road again tomorrow. Hope you all have a great night.
That’s a lot like me. Typically wanna go in a store, I have a purpose, and my goal is to get that thing and get out of there as quickly as possible.

Unless you get me into a good antique store or a record store or a good gun store… then I might do some gathering for about 45 minutes. Then my patience runs runs out.

Not enough propane in them little 1lb cylinders. And per pound that's spendy propane as it is!

I haven't priced one of those cylinders in a while. But quick on line check shows 5 to 10 dollars per.

Buying in a 20lb cylinder worth should be closer to $1 per lb. Bulk heating propane was around 2 something a gallon last we bought some. Let's say 2.50, divided by 4.2 lbs per gallon, is around 60 cents a pound, give or take.

My local welding supply refills my 20 and 30 lb tanks pretty cheap when I bring 4 at a time. Around a buck a pound, the other summer.

I need one of those big weed burners. I'll pipe up to the feed in the garage for preheating welding project that need it. One of these days. Lol
I’ve been seeing this reducing valve advertised for filling those 1 lb tanks from a 20lb. I haven’t seen them anywhere else, but that’s a good Idea. I think a six pack of those 1 lb run $25-30 at WallyWorld…

I fell asleep early on the couch last night. Thus I was up from two thirtyish to almost 5. But then fell asleep again from 5 to 8.

I was all ready to go to Lowe’s and get a couple of bolts and work on my trailer, but then I realized it was Sunday and I should take it easy a little bit…

Yesterday we cleaned up a little bit more around the house and then we wanted to get a pick up truck full of junk out of our mill building.

I also finished making the sliding vents for my kiln. A bit crude, but they will do the job.

Then we went to a party last night. Ate too much and fell asleep pretty quickly on the couch watching the original Star Wars.

Where L2 been? I might’ve missed it, but maybe she is away?

Looks like a rainy day NB and then nasty 60 mph winds tonight and tomorrow. The weather is weird.

Coffee kicked in and I am motivated to get a few things done inside before getting together with friends.

Have a good day spoonies. And thanks for the coffee and wise memes OM. BTW please don’t climb on roofs! You make me nervous.
We are getting that weather tomorrow. Originally, I thought it would be a good day for shooting up the pumpkins with my neighbors, but it’s supposed to rain and then turn really cold and windy.

Looks like next weekend for the punkin massacre!

Sounds like a good solution!!

Merry Christmas!

How’d ya make out? I guess I should continue reading….
We had one of the nicest most chill Christmas’ in years! I hope y’all did also!

We’ve been saying for years, minimal gift giving and more cooking and baking. We mostly stayed true to that (the kids and grandkids got all the Santa loot) but SWMBO couldn’t help herself. She made up for it by gifting things everyone actually needed. So, she’s forgiven!

The squirrels were ultimately defeated with minimal expenditure and work!

I think I remember L2 saying she’d be NORDO for the next week…

Sounds pretty picture perfect!

Roast recipe:

  • 7-8 pound roast
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper

  • Two hours before roasting, remove the meat from the refrigerator and allow it to come to room temperature.
  • Preheat the oven to 500 degrees F (see Cook's Note).

  • Place the oven rack on the second lowest position.

  • Place the roast in a pan large enough to hold it comfortably, bone-side down, and spread the top thickly with the salt and pepper. Roast the meat for 45 minutes.

  • Without removing the meat from the oven, reduce the oven temperature to 325 degrees F and roast for another 30 minutes.

  • Finally, increase the temperature to 450 degrees F and roast for another 15 to 30 minutes, until the internal temperature of the meat is 125 degrees F. (Be sure the thermometer is exactly in the center of the roast.) The total cooking time will be between 1 1/2 and 1 3/4 hours. Meanwhile, make the sauce.

  • Remove the roast from the oven and transfer it to a cutting board. Cover it tightly with aluminum foil and allow the meat to rest for 20 minutes. Carve and serve with the sauce.
