The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Been pretty damn cold on the hill as we start the year but beautiful and the boys are as keen as ever despite the ice.

Sadly the day ended with Ben tearing his leg openbwhen he misjudged a jump over a barbed wire fence. Fortunately my first aid kit carries a stapler so one of the keepers did it while I held him. The vet is happy and I just have a course of antibiotics for him. Does mean two weeks without him on the hill. Sadly but he will be fine
Oh NO.... my ben needs a nurse
Poor baby

Oh, we on a call yesterday where toothless was asked how something happened and he said that a call wasn't made. It was 127.75% his responsibility to make said call
"... and in here, ladies and gentlemen, is the missing Slido bullet point. Amazing, really, innit? The impact of a single, unmentioned, unmade call. And we're walking... over here..."
Sadly
Ben

🎢 What a rollercoaster of a day. So glad Ben will be okay. 🫂

🤞 for your results
as others have mentioned - beats the alternative
But it's better than the alternative!
See? What he said!
today’s current local reality
I can't even... I have both no words and all too many simultaneously... but mostly sadness and empathy for those involved 😢 🫂

Finally attempting the Hoppin' John's today. Everything got shifted a few days. On NY day when I went to the downstairs pantry for the Macaroni, I heard an unfamiliar hissing sound. My hot water heater was leaking. Caught it early and was able to drain it. Neglected or just unaware, the valve before it was just turning. Had to shut the whole house off. Got a new one on the 2nd. And still not caught up.
The Hoppin' John's are better than expected. I would put the recipe I used here but my main VM choked after a power outage. I tried to 'fix' it SFC ChkDsk... I should have done a reset save my files while it was still an option. Still copying the data off the disk so I can get some semblance of the machine back. I'm really going to miss it. Originally built in 2006 and meticulously upgraded virtual hardware and OS as needed. I am sure there are several apps I moved along so I did not have to use the new or modern ones that are supposedly better.
I found the recipe on Saveur and just made it. I did not compare it to food52's version or ask chatgpt for variations it could find. It is just good.
