The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Snow cleaning done for tonight. Dropped to -10F while I was out there. Still snowing, so it's supposed slow down, and get colder.

Had to brave a trip to Walmart. Survived, just barely. Didn't expect that much stoopid to be out there in this weather. Nope, I was mistaken. I might have been adding to it...

Apples NEED to cross pollinate, or you don't get any fruit. But the seeds of that contains are all different, like parents having children. None of the children are the same as the parent. Which means any variety of an apple is a clone. Granny smith apples are all clones of the first granny smith tree, etc.

Typically you clone an apply by cutting a branch (or a bud) and putting it onto a different piece of root stock. Root stock is chosen to help the tree grow, be tolerant to diseases, and also determine the size of the tree. Grafting is not hard to do, and is very old technique (Some accounts mention it close to 2500 years ago).
Some of the trees here I grafted to get copies of wild trees. Like I said, I like to geek out...
Pretty interesting!

This sounds like something out of a 50s sci-fi movie !
I picture some government scientists in the 50's, in white button down shirts and black ties blasting some trees just to see what happens.

Kinda like big kids with big magnifying glasses burning ants on the sidewalk.

It might have been more controlled that than, but that's how I imagine it worked.

Given the sheer number of people who died from radiation poisoning because scientists like the noises and lights the core of a nuclear weapon made when the played with it with a screw driver? Not much more controlled

I miss that part of Jersey living too. There are so many things around. Categories. 20 minutes from everything. 1 hour from needing to spend the night and 2 hours. All were like being in a different world.
I remember when I was just a country boy and moved up there. I could be in New York City in less than 2 hours. It was like a playground with great food.
It’s expensive to live here, but it’s near everything. I have to say I like living here. I just wish it wasn’t as built up as it is now.

I don't think the slipping screwdriver with the demon core was an intentional "Want to see what happens" sort of thing. They knew what they were doing, there was just a lack of safety. Big boys version of playing with fire and getting burned.

That's pretty serous doses of everything sort of radiation there. The stuff with fruit was a bit more elegant than that. At least a little bit... :ROFLMAO:

Our local juke joint built an outdoor structure for the summer months. Did a good job overall. Got some art to hang on the walls…

For our Jersey folks…

Of course we all know and love this one…I need to talk to management about leaving a priceless treasure like this out in the elements though…

There’s a classic Yeungling beer calendar with this pic.
