The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Good morning Wat, MissK Sub and other denizens of the diner.

It was below zero this morning. The old dog wanted out at 230. I was prepared and was able to go out with him to rescue if necessary. But he is a tough one. He made it. We both went back to sleep.

About emergency preparedness for this storm, make sure foods are stored dry and you have lots of water preferably bottled water. Heat is essential and I leave it to experts on that.

Stay safe.

Best wishes to the old dog. He reminds me of my last couple of years with Geezer Cat. He came up in conversation just yesterday. Still miss him, and Willow, too.

I agree with this for the reasons mentioned.
I’m gonna play it by ear. Or sight. In the past ice on snow events it’s hovering around 32. This time 7 to 20. The rain will melt and refeeeze the snow. If it’s sleet there may be a chance to move it off if I leave it.
My driveway is short and shaded this time of year. No convection. One ice storm years ago the slope was enough where we woke up and the car had slid out into the street.
No car in the drive this go round. So if is is something to shovel at least that will be easier.

The kids are really attentive this morning.

The laundry drain is on the west side of the house and outside the wall. I have to wait to do laundry this afternoon when it warms up some or when the sun shines there, because the washer drain water will freeze in the line and back up if it's cold AF. Fucking old house idiosyncrasies.
Fucking old house bs

It is 7. Feels like -3 here.

I will keep an eye on the farm stand all day. And in fact, my buddy Levi the Scrapper is coming by today to pick up a bunch of scrap metal.

The mill building is just about cleared and cleaned out.

It’s also cold in there!!

Not weird. I've met others with the same opinion. Rice remains one of the few foods I can consistently count on tolerance-wise.
What I combine with the rice varies with my food reactions.

After the pandemic started I had a flare up. Food was not my friend. I had gone at least 6 grocery shops with key foods being out of stock. I was getting nervous at my supply of "safe foods".
So, I added multiple sizes and brands of certain items and hit the Rice Lottery that one shop.
Two 20# bags
Three 10# bags
Five 1# bags
Never will I ever run out of rice!
I get this jasmine rice in 25lb bags at Costco business.

Fun story - college friend and his younger brother when they were @ 8 and11 years old.
Older brother comes home from school and sees his younger brother in the kitchen standing in front of the microwave.
OB: What are you cooking?
YB: An egg
OB: What now?
YB: I want to see what happens when you put an egg in the microwave.
OB: Scrambled or???
YB: No - the whole thing
With that, the younger brother opens the microwave door and bends over to peer inside. Takes out the egg with a pot holder and sets it on the counter.
The older brother grabs him around the waist and pulls them both under the kitchen table.
Not two seconds later, the whole thing explodes!
As my friend explained - it was whistling... like that sound effect they use in movies for artillery shells.
Good thing we ducked, too! That egg was like lava! It got everywhere too - walls, ceiling, floor, cabinets.
Ten years later, when our mom sold the house, there was still yellow egg yolk lacquered to
My mom got an early programmable Amanda Radar range back in the late 70s and my sibs used to program it to explode an egg just as she got in the kitchen door from work.
She’d make them clean it up.

I’m thinking to push off the snow while it’s light and fluffy. I bought a bad of traction sand yesterday. I bought it more for making a path on the deck to the grills. But it will work if I actually need to get the car out of the garage next week. The first forecast above freezing is 33 - 8 days away. Partly cloudy and windy all week, I’m staying inside except for when I want the grill for something.
