The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Switching gears…. Has anyone here ever been on the radio?

I had a college radio show in the early 90’s. But before that, I would call in for requests, promos, talk radio to talk local sports….

Anyone ever do Radio?
I was a DJ, both AM and FM
Whe. I was a teenager all I wanted to do was be a DJ. I saw WKRP in Cincinnati ans it looked fun and I loved music.

I was also a dj in college which was fun.

I had drilled into me, in my really late teens, by my fathers mother, my grandmother, that I should “clean like my mother in law is visiting”

Now grandma never liked my mom. I have an idea why. Cleaning is not why.

But that stuck with me over the years. And when I was married, I did clean like my MIL was visiting.

But now that I am not married and I have my own mother visiting starting Monday, I am cleaning like my MIL is visiting.

Anyone else have these deep seated memories haunting them to this day?

Today I have military cleaned the kitchen, bathrooms, garage, and bedrooms.

Tomorrow will be living room, dining room, office and probably the neighbors house too. Just to please mom
Well I am sorry if you’re cleaning just for her. But it’s always satisfying to me at least - having a nice spotless house.

It’s not a dirty house, but there’s bit of chaos in our everyday house. I too want to make it look as nice as possible when someone is visiting.

Bit not Militarily so.

Today’s visit was nice. My buddy is doing fine and we caught up.

We checked out an antique store - the lady who owns it is gonna pick thru stuff left over by our old tennant . I bought a crazy record and my wife got some earrings.

We were gonna have Hungarian food. My wife is Hungarian and I’ve been dying to take her to this place for a few months. Altho it said it was open, it was closed.

So we found a really really good burger joint just down the road. Had a great lunch. And split.

Took a nice back way home that I’d never been to before, so a little adventure. My farmstand was sold out of wood again this afternoon. I just stocked it up his morning. But instead of restocking, I bundled a bunch of kindling and will restock in the morning. One of my customers wants me to deliver a cord of wood tomorrow. We’ll see if he comes thru.

Sounds like a great day

College TV station - volunteer
College Radio show - same time period
College Radio News class
College TV News class
And lots more - for my undergrad degree

And I ran the board for a radio station my 1st job out of college. My actual job was writing commercial copy (aka ads).

One of the actual board operators was not happy he had to stay behind while the rest of the On Air Team went to the State Fair. I mentioned my license, he put me through my paces, and I ran board for them for the length of the fair. Win-Win in my book.

I was lucky - the year I applied for my Radio Operator's License the FCC was giving out lifetime licenses. So long as you never lose that piece of paper, you have a legit license.
And i bet you can still do a station Id in your sleep

So, is it like those books?
Probably not - never read The Babysitters Club series. First book came out in 1986 and was aimed at middle schoolers.

But I did recommend it and help readers find and/or request it when I was a student librarian in high school... and a decade after college once I got my library degree and Reference Librarian position. :geek:

To quote another buffet song, "hey, darling can I carry your books!"

I never read them either, but my sister had them.

I was the Big Reader in the family, next to mom.
Spent so much time in our local library they recruited me.
They needed to practice that patience for a year until I was old enough to be legally hired.

I am well stocked enough except for maybe one thing. I will run out of milk
 sorry - never been a fan
I keep powdered on hand - tastes the same to me
mostly I use it for baking or cooking... and so infreqently and in such small quantities that it really doesn't make sense for me to buy it "fresh"

But - I come from a large family of big milk drinkers... so I know that's an issue when you like it and are used to having some daily. 🫂
