The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

In college, my dorm was near my university's chapter of his fraternity. They heard me play guitar in the breezeway. I did a two hour set and didn't repeat a buffet song. They paid me to play a few of their parties
The world is just a little less “breezy” without Jimmy…

I tend to put him in rotation this time of year…before I shoot six holes in my freezer! Gonna need it when I get home. The snow came and went, but the deep freeze remains for the next week. Temps in the low 20’s at night. It will pop up into the 40’-50’s during the day though.

It was 55 and windy in Miami last night! 😮. I froze my @$$ off! I get a little taste of warm today then back home to dig the tribe out…they’ll have cabin fever by then. I might better stay on tour!🤣. A grumpy SWMBO is no fun.

Tis Sunday I do believe. Everyone have a good one. Stay warm…that goes for ya Florida types also!

——Some warm Sunday wishes for those trying to thaw out MZ——

Wat wanted guitar lessons. Dr. Tyler ordered him up some . . . piano lessons. No interest, not even a little. Fuck, it's not like I'da become no Duane Allman or even his 10th cousin.

Off to the good little doctor's to tidy up another loada sheeyit . . . .
Growing up we had this family of gospel singers that nabbed a morning slot on Sunday local TeeVee. The boy bout my age in the group played the banjo. I thought that was cool as we watched a healthy amount of Hee Haw on Saturday evenings around then.

I go ask Momma if I can learn how to play that thar thang, and she was like (in her most incredulous voice) “THE BANJO?”…🙄. See, she was from the Elvis era…and they wont no BANJO’s in the Elvis band.

I ended up scabbing lessons off my oldest when he was encouraged to play WHAT HE WANTED! I then picked it up myself when I needed to rehab my crushed hand…story for another day.

I can strum a little ditty here and there, but not good.

Never did pick up the banjo…

I never had lessons. I just swiped my dad's old Martin and figured it out. It took like... 3 months before I made something that sounded like music that way, but I made some headway
I’ve got a Mexi-Martin. 0000-1 I think the numbers on it are. I love that guitar. I love the way it plays, I love the way it smells when I pull it out of the hard case.

It’s a weird sort of attraction to an inanimate object…I mean the curves and lines…

Hard to believe that Kenny Rogers performed that song!

Welcome back to the suck… ☹️
I had never heard it till Big Lebowski…and as mentioned above…we watched a shatload of Hee Haw and Grand Ol’ Oprey around Hillbilly House.

I’m pretty sure there was a Kenny R record laying round the joint also. Still never heard it.

Switching gears…. Has anyone here ever been on the radio?

I had a college radio show in the early 90’s. But before that, I would call in for requests, promos, talk radio to talk local sports….

Anyone ever do Radio?
I’ve been told I have a face for radio! 🤣.

Here’s my two brushes with Radio Greatness.

Brush #1: I was maybe 10. Listening in on the local AM station and they had a question about driving. Something along the lines of; how far do you follow the car in front of you? Well…ten yr old me knew the answer, called in. Got on the radio, won the T-shirt (Save Lives, Drive 55…in a lovely color of brown…😛). Not the target audience for sure, but hey…

Brush #2: I was on a George Harrison kick and on a whim called in and asked for Have a Little Help from my Friends…the dude recorded the exchange and played it before he played the song.

I’ll take my bow now…

I think that I might have, at best, learned to be a mechanical instrument player, as opposed to a musician.

I asked Junior once if'n he wanted git-tar lessons since he seemed to like music, but he declined. I let it be his choice. As it should be . . . .
