I guess I should just start this yarn with the jars of Pickled Pigs Feet in every Juke Joint in the South…I've always been a picky eater. Not many food adventures but -
Alligator Quesidillas in Spokane, WA (chef was Cajun) - tasted like calimari heads (unimpressed)
Oxtail Soup and Turtle Soup in Waterford, Ireland - oxtail tasted like a rich beef stock with really good clarity. I don't recall what the turtle soup tasted like but I finished my portion and felt conflicted.
Escargot - tasted like if you removed erasers from #2 pencils and sauteed them in a garlic butter sauce. Meh
Dried cuttlefish - basically, fish jerky made from baby squid. A half Japanese friend in college turned me onto this tasty snack. I don't tolerate any shelf-stable fish anymore and miss it. More tender than beef jerky. And a fish flavor but not "ew, fish"
Seaweed (nori, wakame, etc) is pretty mainstream now. First tried dried nori in high school biology. Was the only one in the class who would try it. Shocked the teacher by asking if I could have the rest of the sheet to finish.I still like snacking on it... and like the seaweed salad served at sushi and Japanese restaurants, too.
Oh - Ostrich. There was a phase @ 30 years ago when ostrich and bison both got really popular as lean protein options. Never tried the bison, but found a butcher that carried ostrich. Similar to white meat turkey. Very lean, more neutral flavor than turkey so great with all different kinds of seasoning. I loved making stir fry and curries.
I did buy some bison patties. Several brothers voiced an interest in trying it. The youngest 2 were home one weekend when I stopped over with the bison. They had a few friends over. I showed them the patties and they asked if I would cook it up for them all to try. Knowing it was really lean, I brought my George Foreman grill, too.
They tried it and loved it but said they were surprised it was so bland. Raw, the patties were very bright in color. So they all thought I meant Buffalo (seasoning). I had to explain it was the animal not the hot sauce. Positive reviews all around.![]()

I’m definitely ready to be a grandmother. A lot of my friends are, but my kids are not in the space in their lives when that’s a practical reality yet.
I’ve always wanted to try roasting a goose. I’ve heard it’s not easy. I don’t ever remember seeing it on any menu at the game houses I’ve visited over the years either. Yet, it was a staple in years gone by?Good morning denizens of the greasy spoon. Lilli and Kathy have insomnia?
All the talk of game as food reminded me of the challenge my sister gave me one Thanksgiving. She was tasked with a game Thanksgiving. She told me I responsible for the duck which I never cooked! So I got the orange juice and marinated it every hour cooking it on low heat for hours. The crew loved it. I never cooked it again and don’t want to.
These days I am more vegetarian but love my salmon and whitefish. Marinate the salmon with one part bourbon, brown sugar and olive oil.
I’ve only had duck once and I don’t think it was prepared well. I’m somewhat of avid and accomplished home Cook, but that’s not in my wheelhouse. Kudos to you for trying.I’ve always wanted to try roasting a goose. I’ve heard it’s not easy. I don’t ever remember seeing it on any menu at the game houses I’ve visited over the years either. Dr tyler was some kind of something

Nature sometimes has a way of making space where none was wanted…I’m definitely ready to be a grandmother. A lot of my friends are, but my kids are not in the space in their lives when that’s a practical reality yet.
Well…I’ve thought many a long thought on this.I wonder if Canada goose is tasty. They are the original Undocumented Aliens. There seems to be a nesting pair on the job.
Norway is the king of gold. They are fantastic winter athletes!Have you watched klaebo from norway run uphill on skis at a nice clip...??6 min mile?? I think i heard....go Norway.... my home country.... they are amazing. There are stories of the skiers coming out of the mountains to harass the germans in ww2 and then skiing away and not being able to be caught
Let’s hope the intimidation works.Looks like a battleship board.

Naaah, that's 80's and 90's. Flat panel monitors didn't hit big time until late 90's.1970s?
Hugs to you....wish i could do something to help
Yep.... and snacks
Do you own a shovel?![]()
Just not possible here. 6 months of snow means you simply can't eat that way. It's such a short growing season, preservation is needed. It is also healthier to eat seasonally...less of the artificial methods of ripening with chemicals that we imgest and make us sick..... i.e. autoimmune diseases and shit we didnt have 100 years ago
Gotta keep the energy up with this much snow!Yep.... and snacks
My response was that you can't rush perfection...Spare your child(ren) what Dr. Tyler did to me when she asked, "are you sterile or do you not know how?"
I have been switching out my switches and receptacles for a while now. I shopped for the ones that match code too. The ones I am replacing are code as well. Just not all 20amp and there are not home runs where they should be. I wish I had the guts to put AFCI breakers in my panel. That would solve on problem in the kitchen where the fridge is on a circuit with other outlets in the kitchen. Also in the far side of the kitchen I would like those outlets to be on at least GFI and the circuit that goes in the garage. On those circuits it is quite a commitment to change out. I have to do all the outlets at once because of the amount of furniture I will have to move to find the first outlet on the circuit. That said, it is also the excuse I seem to be using to not switch out the outlets and switches not yet completed else where in the house. I counted them which amp and bought bulk to save a few dollars. But who knew a little townhouse has this many outlets! I went to rectangle for both and they do look much better. I did all the ones that were loose and or highly visible to start. I really do need to get back to work on that. Maybe after I finish the taxes....Spent a few catching up. The task this morning was changing/un-butcher some wire. Someone many years ago decided to use the push in connections on the outlets, and those finally failed leaving intermittent power down one wall. I'm far too old to be kneeling on the floor changing outlets. Maybe next time the whole place gets a match!
Old dog is happy I'm FINALLY sitting at the computer. She's snoring next to me on her bed. Weekends really throw her, no one does what they're supposed to be doing!
It's snowing again, but not enough to worry about yet...
Off to fix more stuff...
Having tried I vote nnnnoooooooI wonder if Canada goose is tasty. They are the original Undocumented Aliens. There seems to be a nesting pair on the job.
