I took the day off. I had it planned.

Our cat, beasty (aka chappie) was so happy to see us. He slept on the bed all night, which he never does. He hung out all day.

Filled up the wood stand first.

Then brought my car to the shop for a few things.

Then I took a nap. Man it was amazing.

Mrs wonderer and I cleaned the basement a bit and finished assembling a light stand for her plants.

Then I planted a buncha trays of marigolds, one tray of echinacea and one tray of coreopsis.

I could get used to not going to work.

But tomrrow it’s back to the grind.

The kids did the Alaska cruise thingie. That seems like a good idea.


Then there is the South America/Antarctic cruise, too. That's something like 5 months long and half a year's pay.

I've done an Alaska cruise. It was a really wonderful trip!

I still want to go to Antarctica but not for 5 months!

It helps if you have a friend along that lives near the coast. A friend gave us a tour of the Californina coast near Arroyo Grande and knew places to get a view you locals know. I liked the Michigan coast near Traverse City.

I drove the California coast many times when I lived in LA. Never fails to fascinate!

I used to tell nursing moms they could have a small glass of wine or a beer (ONE!) before their evening nursing. It won't hurt baby and mellows both.

Interesting day today. Not in the "how cool" type of interesting. More the WTAF type of interesting.

Woke up to pounding rain. Like biblical rain. 40 days and 40 nights rain. I looked out the window and saw literal sheets of water falling from the sky. The street was a river! We just don't get that type of rain here. Thankfully, it didn't last all day.

When I woke up again, I had a sore throat and a cough. I suspected I might get something when I was on the plane home Sunday evening. Some guy was coughing, sounded just like whooping cough. No mask, of course. Thankfully, I'm UTD on my vaccines, so unlikely to get pertussis. I'm just annoyed. No fever and I'm drinking gallons of fluids.

On a brighter note, I did figure out lighting for my hearts. I like the look. It's just a puck light with the top of a black sock as a collar.



This girl is off to bed! Sleep well, spoonies. Those of you supposed to be asleep. Those of you on the other side of the world, have a great day! ️

Those family road trips were special. My VA “must see” was the giant cigarette packs all lit up at Phillip Morris outside of Richmond. We always had to wait till Daddy got off work, so by the time we hit VA it was dusk or dark. The night scenes going into DeeCee were always cool also.

I was sent up to DeeCee one year to hang with my aunt and uncle for a summer. One of the most fun vacations I ever had. Long summer days playing with all my cousins friends. They were all much older. In fact my oldest cousin had just gotten her drivers license.

The problem was how to get an 8 yr old home? Enter mommas crazy middle brother. The one who was married for less than a month before she kicked him out. Liked his Bud’s and Swisher Sweet’s Cigarillo’s! Never wore a shirt in the summer, nut brown. He picks me up from Chantilly and moves the whole operation to Fredricksburg.

For the next two weeks we fished…like everyday fished. I’ve got some salty fishy uncles, but he was the Top-O-da-Heep! Man could catch fish in a mud puddle. We had to go see his GF, who was laid up in the hospital with some malady, but I remember they wouldn’t let kids in back in those days, so I got to sit in Virginia humidity and wait till he said his piece and then we’d go visit a kindly old couple who he either fished with or something. Anyhow, the lady of the house kept us fed.

The trip back to NC was the best. We left the couples house after eating and drove through the night. Stopping at no-shit truck stops (a new thing for me) and getting to listen to late night truckers. He had the obligatory CB in the K5 Blazer.

The funny thing, I remember all this like it was yesterday. My parents? They denied it ever happened? I quit trying to convince them. They swore they’d never turn me over to Uncle R for more than two hrs, much less two weeks.

Tragedy has a way of messing with ones mind…

You know well the prescription: drink lots of fluids and rest when you can. Doctors and nurses are the worse patients. So don’t rush the recovery.

When I traveled for business about once a month, at this time of year I would catch something from someone on the plane. All because they would not mask up

Seems like I drug the whole tribe through South-O-de-Border once a long while ago…place was pretty run down from what I remember. Found a bottle of Blenheim’s…I didn’t not like it like I remember, but still preferred what I’ve been used to.

Having said all that. Our company stocks up on Fever Tree Ginger Ale. It’s got a bite to it. I much prefer this now…so now you have me wondering? Maybe Ol’ Grandaddy was on to something….

Need to go find a bottle of Blenheim’s again.
