Well home after a long day visiting my mum on Mothers Day. Met her at church then headed to hers where my brother cooked lunch. Great to spend time with her but she just seems more frail every time we visit. Her spirit is strong and that carried her through. So tough to see this but sadly inevitable.

It’s a privilege to be with her at my age … even with six hours driving

Trucker stories are the BEST!

SWMBO comes from a family of truckers. We took a trip from Dallas to El Paso to Tombstone and back to Dallas w two stops in El Paso there and back to spend time w family.

My FiL had one of those JACKED CB’s in the truck that goes to 300 or 400 channels. We got a late start and the girls and kids were out like lights. We did the first 9 hr leg to ELP without turning the radio on, just listening to truckers on the Citizens Band! My FiL can spin a yarn and I laughed till I cried. He turned 9hrs into what seemed like 4.

FWIW…If you haven’t tuned up a CB since Smokey and the Bandit was a thing…some things have changed. Truckers have those CB’s with the chips in them so the Pros stay in the upper bands to weed out the yahoo’s.

They also have advertisements now at the top of the hour. Flying J Truck Stop would have a gal come on and advertise gas prices and sales on antenna’s and mikes and stuff for like 5 mins straight.

Also, the FCC doesn’t seem to monitor the lower channels anymore. Channel 19 is crazy…dirty jokes and cursing…

This ain’t yer daddy’s CB radio any no more!

I didn't join the frat at college because I dropped out and it seemed foolish. A year or two later, four woulda-been brothers died in a single vehicle accident on the way back to school from a Little Feat concert. There were some ambivalent feelings there for awhile . . . .

...one from a motorcycle crash, one to a snakebite to the jugular, one bled out in my arms from a knife to the heart and one got crushed when a car fell on him. He had an infant daughter. I bought her a car at the age of 17 so she could get away from her POS mom...
Life can deal some shitty hands at times, maybe that's why I'm an "open book" and look for the beauty in life.
I fully grasp how fragile and finite it can be.

Went and got antibiotics for dad and picked up a couple outfits from walmart. One pr of pants are too small because i picked up the wrong size... the sweater was cuter on the hanger

It was difficult to cook for one. I did it as a grad student and now as a widower. I do go out to eat more these days.

I'm getting better at it. Still, most days it's more a "snack forage" than a cooked meal. Apple, sliced cheese, nuts... things of that sort.

BTW - I know what you guys are thinking

Edibles make everything better... just a thought

I just came from grocery shopping. No one but the workers and myself. I love that style of shopping. And it’s a perk for being a morning person!

Same for us night owls... except the bakery, deli, and meat counters are closed... and you sometimes need to dodge the stocking staff. Still, lovely to have the store almost to yourself.

Friday when I did that chicken divan with scallops and a few shrimps. It tasted good but what boat anchor. I felt like I swallowed one of those anvil Wat found.

That was my immediate thought... take an already rich and heavy dish... and add shellfish...
Mind you, it's easy for me to have an opinion given I don't eat shellfish and Chicken Divan is not the type of dish I would ever consider eating. I'm a near impossible sell on casserole (aka hot dish) in general
