The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Not a long weekend here, so back to work tomorrow. Fingers crossed everything is behaving itself.

On the bright side, yesterday we took the 6mo pup to a quiet beach for a frolic with his parents. Two other goldens turned up, so 4 adult dogs and one pup who's nearly as big as a couple of the adults chased a couple of balls in and out of the surf, and each other up and down the beach.

Then another girl arrived with her 12 week old golden retriever. Poor little puppy didn't know what was going on when our boy came bounding over. Anyway, a really good time was had by all, and we've tentatively arranged for another get together in 4 weeks, with an invite for any other goldens or similar to come for a play.

I don't really do anything for the holiday, even though I'm in the US...so Im here. (Though I am home alone with my wife....)

Same here, but she's going to be gone this afternoon. I'll be at the mercy of the cats.

I ventured outside the walls around the yard to clean up the winter's accumulation of trash and to whack down the weeds. I much prefer civilization within the walls.

Not me...When My wife and I are alone, with the kids gone...we celebrate....It's Naked Day here!! No clothes all day. We don't leave the house if we can avoid it. :)

Though we do sometimes go out on the front porch (we'll cover up with a blanket) there is a nice storm going on right now....

Boy, that sounds familiar. Which is why we expended the effort (etc.) to create our courtyard. Fortunately for the time being I have a lawn service handle most of the acre, and I mow, edge, and otherwise take a few moments to spruce-up our quiet area. Was planning on jettisoning the paid help this week, but the relief from the 4+ hours a week just mowing and edging is letting my mind tend to other quality-of-life issues. Making progress!

And surprise a few folks when you do! 😆

Nah....if we are going past our front porch, we do, begrudgingly, put clothes on...but that's why we avoid doing it...lol

Finally got out to do some weeding and my back and knee are smarting. I'm sure I'm going to regret it but it needed doing.

There's a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. Cookies and donuts are on the counter. If someone would feed the dragon, I'd appreciate it.

I will be over in the corner aching but writing so it's not too bad ...

I've tossed him some imported Newcastle coal and gave him a scratch. He liked that.

I've been way more productive today than I intended to be.....

and I put a shirt on...(yuck)

Wife and I recorded 2 episodes of a podcast....then I recorded an episode of a different podcast....I uploaded 2 episodes....(one of each) and now I'm about to make dinner....tomorrow, I'm back to writing again...

What are your podcasts about?

I did more than I expected today, too. That means less to get done tomorrow, so it's good.

(y)👋 Hey!
:coffee:
Slow day.

Got to bed at 1 am. Woke up at 3 am, 6 am, 9 am, and 1:30 pm, and I finally got up. My nurse was ringing the doorbell at the last time. Why she came on a Sunday is crazy, but she wanted to check in on me. Thinks I'm not doing so well, I suppose.

Chastised over not taking my night meds, the ones for restlessness and missing the morning doses too. It's bad to have someone younger than you thinking they are 'the boss of you,' you know?

But then she's a cute kid about 45 compared to my 86. I could just wave it off, but it's kind of funny to see her so flustered.

And here I am again past midnight chatting with you. Guess I'll let Buddy out again and head to bed with my pills. Make someone happy.

BTW my last story is doing well, not many views, but scores are good. Sci-fi isn't a big appeal area, I guess.

Another beautiful morning. I'm thinking about going to the nearby federal cemetery to thank the residents personally for their service and sacrifice.

For now, I've got a pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. There are cheese danish and some monkey bread on the counter for those who want a bite.

When I get back, I'll be over in the corner working on my new story. After the visit, I'll be in the proper mood to write the scene I'm working on ...

I did this mornings NYT hard Sudoku in 16 minutes.

The change in our weather came in as scheduled. The wind flipped around from the east between between 7:50 and 8:20 yesterday, and the dew point jumped from 6F to 46F. That plus the heat of the day means rain showers over the mountains. Thunderstorms are likely, but not so much in the city.

The last of the gladiolus I'm planting are in the ground: 58 bulbs planted over a period of 8 weeks. I threw away about 30 bulbs that I won't plant.

I added a few paragraphs to the WIP. There will be a few more before I'm done. As planned, day three of the story is loaded with sex. There's a thread in the forum on not writing sex scenes, and I could consider that option.

I'm looking out the patio door at totally unplanned sunshine. Just a couple of days ago the holiday was supposed to be a washout, now "20% chance of showers after 4 p.m." Which all means what? I can't procrastinate mowing the backyard any more than I already have. Dog would appreciate the grass not tickling his fancy when he goes out to potty.

Yesterday was a lost day. I was in my bathrobe all day doing little other than writing another installment for my Barstow series. It's not exactly setting the LitE world on fire, but it does have fans. I guess it's because I love my characters and they can be so entertaining at times. And naughty.

I really should set aside time this afternoon to sound Taps. I'm a passable trumpeter, and have participated in Taps for Veterans on two occasions. Not in the mood, though. My best friend told me week before last that he was diagnosed with brain cancer, but at the moment he is incommunicado so I don't know the results of the follow-ups he was supposed to have last week. He's had lots of health issues over the 20 years I've known him, none of which have been attributable to poor lifestyle - just poor genes. He's soon to bury his mother due to similar problems.

Sincere hopes that my friends here have a peaceful and pleasant Memorial Day. Don't fix a hot dog for me, however - not on my diet plan.

Good morning everyone. I see the dragon has been fed, let out, and...ooh...had some babies...that's nice.

I'm off to my corner to get some writing done. My story is doing well so far. And Chapter two is not going to write itself....I'm trying to get off the caffeine...so...just some juice for me this morning....

Almost the nooning time. I've been up (as almost always) since 5:00 AM. Writing. Clicket Clacketing all morning long. Time for a coffee break. How's y'all doing ta-day?

Well....it's getting to be mid-afternoon here (after 3 for me.) I've got about 2.5k words written for today, and my goal is 1 hour, or 500-1k words a day, so I'm ahead of my goal!

I think I'm going to call it a day for now, and move on to other projects...Possibly going to do a podcast episode today...we'll see...

I took 27 minutes to solve the NYT hard Sudoku. It seemed like less than that, so it must have been a good puzzle.

I reached a point in my WIP where my male protagonist needs to stand up. Something in my mind thinks that's a reason for delay. The rest of my mind needs to make that part go sit in the corner.

, so I watched people instead. It's one of my favorite things to do, and it's usually more enjoyable when they're gorgeous, which they were.
People watching is the one thing of value I learned from Steven King. I met him many years ago on the Empire Builder (a train that runs from Chicago to Seattle) He spent the entire 4 day trip in the lounge car watching people. I asked him if he was gathering information for a plot he said no, he was gathering characters.

Every interview I have seen with him and a few second hand stories of him -- my spouse met him briefly many years ago -- he always talks about watching people. My spouse gives me grief because I have always been a terrible eavesdropper at restaurants. Since I have started writing, I try to focus on conversations from people similar to who I am trying to write currently. I think it helps.
