Nuclear power is getting a little traction in the data center industry. No federal, state or regional mandates are in place that I’m aware of, but Microsoft is partnering with the operators of Three Mile Island to restart that facility. Google, Amazon and Meta are partnering with some regional nuclear power providers as well. I’ve also seen some articles about companies developing small scale reactors to serve the data center industry.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say “no demand” but I would agree that the revenue derived from AI agents and models is minuscule in relation to the massive amounts of money being spent on building out enabling infrastructure. Companies are making huge bets on the future.

One area I give Joe Biden great credit for, he signed into law the advance act of 2024 to reform and speed up regulatory licensing and deployment for new nuclear reactors. Long overdue.
That's one aspect of AI. Curing cancer is another. Identifying and solving vulnerabilities in networks is another.
It doesn't have to be in their back yard. There are legitimate concerns and they have to be dealt with. Politicians need to depoliticize this issue and work together with big tech, state and local entities. There are millions of acres to build these data centers and in places where nuclear power plants and data centers can work together to serve the American people. People are skeptical of these data centers because the media is creating this monster image fed by Chinese propaganda. People need to do the research, big tech needs to sell it better and politicians need to stop politicizing the issue.
They were never in a position to do anything with AI. They definitely didn't bow out to save jobs.....it was about revenue.
With energy prices always rising, nuclear plants still haven't yet made the first cent of profit, and never will. Nuclear energy still gets funding because there is a fantasy that it will someday be free energy, while we run out of uranium and sustainable fusion remains flatly impossible outside stars.
There is great progress being made to recycle spent nuclear waste for use in advanced fission reactors.

We have plenty of nuclear fuel to sustain nuclear energy for decades.
