Now this is too fucking funny.

Ted Cruz is signing up for Obamacare : http://time.com/3757065/ted-cruz-obamacare/

Ted Cruz is signing up for insurance under President Obama’s health care law. The Texas Republican Senator and newly-announced presidential candidate, known for his staunch opposition to the Affordable Care Act, told CNN on Tuesday that he will be joining the millions of Americans enrolled in insurance under the law.

He is a cunt but not stupid.

Any guesses?

Another great one from the Office of Cruz. No wonder his wife took a leave of absence from Goldman Sachs. The question is, was it voluntary or did they ask her to?

Ted Cruz rails against ‘crony capitalism’ - and praises wife’s Goldman Sachs career

Ted Cruz is sounding off against Wall Street and financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs, where his wife Heidi works (worked) as a managing director in Houston.
Asked whether Goldman Sachs is a positive or negative force in society, the Texas senator and recently declared presidential candidate told Bloomberg Politics on Tuesday that there’s a little bit of both.
“Goldman is one of the biggest banks on Wall Street, and my criticism with Washington is they engage in crony capitalism,” he said. “They give favors to Wall Street and big business and that’s why I’ve been an outspoken opponent of crony capitalism, taking on leaders in both parties.”

The Texas Republican Senator and newly-announced presidential candidate, known for his staunch opposition to the Affordable Care Act, told CNN on Tuesday that he will be joining the millions of Americans enrolled in insurance under the law.

Now take note of this.
Asked whether he would accept the government contribution available to lawmakers and congressional staffers for their health care coverage through the ACA, Cruz said he will "follow the text of the law." "I strongly oppose the exemption that President Obama illegally put in place for members of Congress because (Senate Minority Leader) Harry Reid and the Senate Democrats didn't want to be under the same rules as the American people," Cruz said, before repeating: "I believe we should follow the text of the law."

Under the Affordable Care Act, members of Congress and some designated congressional staffers are required to obtain health care coverage through the D.C. Health Link Small Business Market. The Office of Personnel Management's guidelines state that lawmakers and their staff receive a "government contribution" if they get health care coverage through the ACA. But some lawmakers have declined to accept the contribution, saying they do not want to get special treatment.

After the interview, a Cruz spokesperson clarified that he wouldn't take the contribution.

Give him a month or two, and see if he doesn't come out with his own personal story of how much more expensive Obamacare is.

Basically he's gotten himself into the same vice that others have--and a major reason why the system is needed. He was on his wife's insurance from her work. She's quit to work on his campaign. So, he's out of insurance (and so is the rest of the family) until he can get some. He isn't the brightest bulb in the chandelier to not be looking elsewhere for insurance, even if it would cost him more. The fact that he either hasn't or can't find a better deal is just testament to the usefulness of Obamacare.

How is it that you pretend NOT to know that the LAW is that CONGRESS people MUST sign up under Obamacare if THEY get insurance?

HOW IS IT YOU PRETEND NOT TO KNOW THAT???????????????????????????

From Think Progress:
Ted Cruz Wants You To Believe He’s Legally Required To Sign Up For Obamacare. He’s Not.
The Affordable Care Act does not compel members of Congress to enroll in DC’s health care exchange; it simply cuts off the government contribution to their insurance plans if they buy their policies elsewhere. “The final rule extends a Government contribution towards health benefits plans for Members of Congress and designated congressional staff so long as the health benefits plans are purchased via the appropriate SHOP as determined by the Director,” a summary of the final rule says. “Nothing in the final rule or the law prevents a Member of Congress or designated congressional staff from declining a Government contribution for him or herself by choosing a different option for their health insurance coverage.”

But that seems sort of like a lot of bullshit. They guys wife is no longer employed, so he is getting insurance through his employer. His employer is the Federal Gov't, and in his role the law is he goes to the exchange. Texas is not participation, so he goes to a federal exchange. I bet this happens every single day and really is a testament to the ACA working as intended.

So it isnt a brightest bulb thing. The fed will cover so much of his portion that he is just getting the best deal he can - which is on the exchange. I think we are saying the same thing, but I just don't see where it makes him a dim-bulb.

Another Obamacare (sic) success story !

So BusyBunny - just to sum it up for you: Cruz is not "following the law" he is doing what is in his economic self-interest.

The dim bulb part is how this plays in the media and with the voters. You become the butt of jokes and you lose. He's getting a whole baggage train behind him.

So if he wants it from his employer, he has to use the exchange. But Members of Congress are not mandated to get insurance through the exchange.

He can get insurance anywhere the fuck he wants from anyone that will sell it to him.

Really? So for two whole years, he has been breaking the law.

Incorrect

Grassly pushed that law thru

He could have signed up for insurance through his home state of Texas, if Texas had an insurance exchange.

Media freakout over Ted Cruz buying ObamaCare insurance reaches day two

Alternate headline: “Man who wants to abolish IRS continues to pay taxes.”

Lay aside the obvious point that there’s no inconsistency in obeying a law you oppose. Are people really so stupid that they don’t see why Cruz is doing this?

“We will presumably go on the exchange and sign up for health care, and we’re in the process of transitioning over to do that,” Cruz, a Republican candidate for president, told The Des Moines Register on Tuesday.

Cruz’s wife, Heidi, is going on an unpaid leave of absence from her job at Goldman Sachs to join Cruz full time on the campaign trail, Cruz told the Register…

Asked whether it chafes to have to rely on Obamacare, Cruz told the Register: “Well, it is written in the law that members will be on the exchanges without subsidies just like millions of Americans so that’s — I think the same rules should apply to all of us. Members of Congress should not be exempt.”

Cruz currently gets his insurance through his wife’s plan. That insurance is suspended once she takes a leave of absence to campaign with him, leaving him with three options. He can decline to purchase insurance, which no husband and father with the means to get coverage would ever do. His wife could use COBRA to keep her Goldman Sachs insurance intact for another 18 months, which would cost the family a bunch and would leave them uninsured circa October 2016 when the coverage lapses (assuming Mrs. Cruz hasn’t returned to work by then). Or he can follow the Grassley rule and buy an unsubsidized ObamaCare exchange plan, as federal law requires of members of Congress. Why, oh why, might Cruz prefer what’s behind door number three notwithstanding his ferocious opposition to ObamaCare? Anyone want to guess why a guy running for president as a loud-and-proud populist might choose to subject himself to the same unpopular program that millions of Americans are coping with right now?

Dave Weigel offers a remedial lesson on politicking for the pundit class:

Cruz is finding a political advantage in his unhappy journey into Obamacare. In an interview with CNN, Cruz contrasted his sacrifice with the law-dodging ruthlessness of the Obama administration. “I believe we should follow the text of every law, even law I disagree with,” Cruz told CNN’s Dana Bash. “If you look at President Obama and the lawlessness, if he disagrees with a law he simply refuses to follow it or claims the authority to unilaterally change.”

Cruz is deftly using the oddly-enough angle of this news—Obamacare-hating senator forced into Obamacare—for a populist cause. He’s not the first Republican to do so. In his successful 2014 campaign for Senate, Colorado Representative Cory Gardner repeatedly talked about the family plan he’d held onto until it was scrapped for not meeting the ACA’s standards…

Why was Gardner on the endangered plan? Because he declined the coverage available to him as a member of Congress. At personal cost, he took a decision that made him more relatable and vulnerable to the insurance market. And now Cruz has done the same.

And Gardner won. So here’s Cruz with a decision to make: Does he stick with his wife’s Cadillac plan from Goldman Sachs, at great personal expense, while he’s out in Iowa trying to convince farmers that he’s just like them? Or does he suck it up, take the ObamaCare plan, and use it as proof that not only does he play by the same rules average voters are forced to play by, he’s a rule-of-law stickler who won’t try to dodge statutes that discomfit him, like Obama routinely does on war authorizations and immigration?

If this were any other candidate, the media would see right through it. As Chris Hayes said last night, in terms of his educational and professional credentials, Cruz is “the elite of the elite of the elite.” He needs to polish his populist cred at every opportunity to remake that image; buying an ObamaCare plan is one simple way. But because the media hates him, they can’t get past the seeming hypocrisy and see the basic strategy underneath. Ted Cruz, the commander-in-chief of the anti-ObamaCare movement, is buying … ObamaCare! Can ya believe it?

that's NOT crony capitalism

Clintons Refused to Return Money from Iranian Government Front Group

Man pardoned by Bill Clinton tied to Iranian foundation

The Clinton Foundation refused to return more than $50,000 of contributions from a group described by federal government investigators as a “front” for the “Mullahs who dominate Iran.”

The Alavi Foundation contributed $30,000 to the Clinton Foundation in 2006, and again contributed between $25,000 and $50,000 in 2008.

The Washington Post reported in 2003 that federal law enforcement officials said that Alavi was “closely tied to the mullahs who dominate Iran” and “funds a variety of anti-American causes.”

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara filed a lawsuit in 2009 to seize a New York City building partially owned by The Alavi Foundation alleging that it had been acting as a “front for the government of Iran” for two decades.

“For two decades, the Alavi Foundation’s affairs have been directed by various Iranian officials, including Iranian ambassadors at the United Nations, in violation of a series of U.S. laws,” said Bharara.

Despite the allegations, the Clinton Foundation held its ground, stating in 2009 that it had no plans to return the money it received from foundation.

The 2008 donation to the Clinton Foundation came just two days after Alavi’s partner, the New York-based ASSA Corp., was designated a terrorist entity by the Treasury Department.

In 2013, a federal judge upheld Bharara’s case and ordered the seizure of the 36-story building. Bharara said at the time that the ruling “paves the way for the largest-ever terrorism-related forfeiture, and provides a means of compensating victims of Iranian-sponsored terrorism.”

The Clinton’s ties to the case don’t end with donations from Alavi.

One of the tenants of the building, Marc Rich, had previously fled the United States for Switzerland after he was indicted on 65 charges including “fraud and illegal trading with Iran.” Rich was trading with Iran even as it held American hostages.

Rich returned to the country after former President Bill Clinton pardoned him on his last day in office in 2001.

The Rich family contributed over a million dollars to Democratic political causes, including $450,000 to the Clinton library.
