THE COMING GAS ENTITLEMENT

This thought occurred to me yesterday. Gas prices are approaching the two dollar mark, and possibly headed to three. This means that some folks are going to have to make some tough decisions. They’re going to have to cut back their spending in one area to be able to afford the gas.

People don’t like having to make hard choices. When the going gets tough the tough used to get going. Now they scream for government solutions. Don’t worry, the left is listening.

Here’s my prediction. As gas prices edge over two bucks – and the people start screaming – the Democrats are going to move in with a solution. They’ll talk about children who can’t eat because mommy has to spend the money on gas to get to work. They’ll talk about mommies who can’t get their children to “needed medical care” because there’s no gas in the car. Then, to solve this terrible crisis facing American families – especially the children – the Democrats will come up with a gasoline entitlement. Perhaps it will be in the form of a tax credit. Maybe even gas stamps handed out with food stamps. Whatever form it takes, the goal will be to take millions of low and middle income Americans and make them dependent to some extent on the government for their gasoline!

Just as with the fuel oil subsidies in the Northeast, these gas subsidies will become a permanent part of the U.S. budget. The beneficiaries will be told that if they vote for Republicans they’ll have to pay for their own gas.

Now, let’s see if I called this one right.

It's a shame the fuel thing won't encourage more people to give up their planet-killing boxes of death. Take a walk folks, Its cheaper, more leisurely and You're less likely to hit a telephone pole.

Where did you find and C&P this? Or is this another example of what you can do when you're not being lazy? I'll have to tell Mischka about it, if it is.

I once heard something about children being a reflection on the character of their parents. Seems like one of the Bush girls has her daddy's spunk.

Fact is, you're probably not used to this kind of coverage of the president's daughter. That's because, for the last eight years, children of the Clintons and the Gores got a free pass from the press.

For instance...you probably never heard about Chelsea Clinton's spring break drinking spree in Aspen, Colorado, last month. Or how Al Gore's then-16-year-old daughter Sarah was cited for underage possession of alcohol back in 1996. Or when Gore's then-14-year-old son Albert III was suspended from St. Albans prep school for smoking pot at a school dance that same year.

The mainstream media kept its collective trap shut on these stories. And you never heard about Albert III's drug bust because dear old Dad personally contacted news editors and asked them to kill the story!

well

I heard about most of those but those are just general teenage things. I mean thats what teenagers do. Al's oldest son also got a ticked for doing a 100 plus in his 2000 oldsmobile not to long before the election.

That is just mindless rhetoric

Hey Todd, the Democrats already have come up with a plan. They did quite some time ago....it's called CONSERVATION!

Or better yet weaning America off of it's addiction to Gasoline. It is so hilarious the way the "less government Republicans" scream for government intervention when gas prices go up.

It isn't governments fault. The petroleum industry is a private concern.

It isn't the oil producing nations fault. It's their oil from their land they can do with it as they please.

It isn't the oil companies fault. That is the "American Way" is it not. They have a right to sell their product at whatever price the market will pay. We are the market.

We bitch, we moan, we wear sackcloth, and rub ashes in our hair and wail endlessly, but we always are right there filling'er up! Gotta have those SUV's....what would the neighbors think if we didn't keep up appearances? God forbid.

Sort of like a junkie bitching about the price of a fix. This country has turned into a buncha whiny brats that think they are entitled to cheap gas.

With all of the technological advancement in the past 100 years doesn't it seem strange that we haven't been able to come up with something better than gasoline to get us around? Lead acid batteries aren't much removed from what your grandfathers had in their cars....strange indeed.

If it gets too expensive...I will ride a bus...or ride my bike

mass transit?

If you don't live in a big city there is no such thing. The only thing we have that resemble mass transit are the school buses that pick up our kids for school.
