The Cozy Corner

There’s a naturist beach near Brighton, right?
Right of passage for Brighton girls to do an outing there!
I noted this when doing research for our visit there. I was planning on making a visit until I learned how uncoordinated I was on a rocky beach. I knew I looked humorous enough trying to navigate one clothed, so I was not going to try it nude. Especially not for my first naturist beach visit.

I did at one point. At least it was easier than walking on them.
Sorry for making you "wow face", Eyes.🙈 It's only because I'm not always the most graceful creature on uneven surfaces.

That is why I prefer the sandy beaches on the Atlantic coast here.

Are there actual laws regarding nude/non-nude beaches in the UK/US?

Edit: No joke. Serious question here.
Never really looked into the legalities of it despite having been to a few but I'd assume there would need to be some laws / restrictions around them to avoid mass arrest for public indecency or something

From google AI...

In the United States, there is no federal law addressing public nudity; this power is left entirely to individual states and local municipalities. Because laws vary by location, legal nude beaches only exist where explicitly authorized by state or local legislation. [1, 2]

The Core Legal Framework
  • State & Local Statutes: Almost every state has indecent exposure or public lewdness laws. These generally prohibit exposing genitals with the intent to cause alarm, distress, or for sexual gratification. [1, 2]
  • The Designated Zone Exemption: Beaches are deemed "clothing-optional" or legal for nude sunbathing only if a specific county ordinance or state park designation officially exempts that defined area from local indecency laws. [1]
  • Federal Land: For federally managed lands (like National Parks), rangers generally defer to the surrounding state or county laws unless the National Park Service has specifically designated a section for nude recreation.
Notable Authorized Beaches
Where local municipalities have explicitly carved out exceptions, highly regulated public nude or clothing-optional beaches operate legally: [1]
  • Haulover Beach (Miami-Dade County, Florida): Operates under a specific county ordinance designating a quarter-mile stretch as clothing-optional. [1]
  • Gunnison Beach (Gateway National Recreation Area, New Jersey): Permitted under federal policies that historically accommodated this longstanding, tolerated naturist area. [1, 2, 3]
  • Black's Beach (San Diego, California): Acknowledged and managed via local agreements on city-owned coastal bluffs. [1]
  • Baker Beach (San Francisco, California): The northern end is historically recognized as a clothing-optional area by local authorities.
  • Canaveral National Seashore (Florida): Nudity is legally accommodated in designated portions within Volusia County. [1]

Found this about nudity in the UK:
“In the United Kingdom, there are no laws outright banning nudism on beaches or in public. However, public nudity is governed by the Public Order Act of 1986, which makes it illegal if it causes "distress, alarm, or outrage" to others.”

Not been arrested yet maybe I'm just not alarming enough when naked.
