The Crafting Thread - Show Us What You've Made!

Gah, everybody's got such awesome projects! I can't keep up, lol.

Fantastic job, guys. :D
Meh, I'll be lucky if I can wear my petticoat even next winter! You can totally keep up with me at least, I'm mostly dreaming about crafting but very little happens.

I decided to try something new. My daughter sent me this kit to try out. She's absolutely amazingly talented when it comes to crochet.

Awesome! I got a highland cow crochet kit for Christmas from my aunt. My mother loves highland cows, so when I get it finished, I'm going to give it to her. Great job!

Haha, I totally understand. We can craft slowly together! :D

I am working on something secretive…

I’ve made a few errors, cable wise.

My brain is screaming at me that it is OK!!! It’s my first real cable project and I’m doing well!! I will only continue to improve and this is historical context of my progression!!

But my body… that freaking conflict between my brain and my body remains present even while crafting. Because I want to continue, I want to continue, I want to.

But my body will not allow that.

So my secret project has been shelved and sock #2 is coming along nicely.

It was hardly a project, but whatever, I’ll post it anyway…

Refinishing of the table turned out really good! Smooth, even, just the perfect amount of sheen and water resistance. 😁 And, I got rid of a scratch that had annoyed me for some time, too!

I’ve thought about cable knitting for a few days now, because I saw really pretty mittens. Based on your post I’m not sure I’m ready to try it just yet. I’ll bask in the glory of the hat knitting success for a little while longer before starting something New and Difficult.

Your socks looks really pretty!

So I’m making the heel to my next sock, and I’ve completely forgotten how to do it. It’s getting interesting.

The videos I found didn’t help me much because they’re not using the same method my friend taught me for the decreases and I can’t quite remember how it was supposed to go numbers wise. And they’re using so many needles! I only used two, so the videos look scary.

It also doesn’t help that I have given everything a weird name that helped me remember things when I first learned them. But now that I’ve promptly unlearned everything *except for* the name I gave for the methods, it’s impossible to google anything. 😂

I did manage to find out that what I call “three little piggies” is actually a SSK decrease. Now if only I could figure out what “easy does it” is… I might just wing it at this point. If I called it “easy does it” it must have been easy enough to just wing it, right?

Wish me luck!

Oh those heels get me every time! It helps when I write everything down and follow a clear pattern, but even then 🫣

This is the Murmuration pattern by Summer Lee with the yarn I picked up from my summer trip to Elora - Chocolate Mint Crumble (80% superwash merino/20% nylon) by the Fergus Yarn Company 🌳

It’s my first foray into lace patterns and I’m flying through it. I was a bit iffy on the colours but I actually really like the blend, especially in stockinette, the pooling is very reminiscent of the water and Blue Herons from my trip.

Has anyone heard of Sock Madness? It’s a challenge on ravelry that seems intense to say the least with warm up patterns, a qualifier pattern, and then upwards of 6+ rounds of knitting a pattern exactly as fast as you can - eliminating those who don’t fill x amounts of spots every round 🫣

And the patterns are intense! Brioche, beading, colour work, and just about everything else.

I won’t be participating this year buttttttt it’s a fun challenge to consider taking on in the future 😋

Sounds like something I'd do! You can do it, though. I have faith in you!

That sock is gorgeous. I just look at knitters with so much awe because I just can't do it, lol.

Sock Madness sounds like a wild kind of fun! Let us know how it goes if you decide to participate next year or whenever. :)

I haven't done anything crafty in weeks. I had so many ideas, and I didn't do any of them. So annoyed with myself.

I’m not good at reading patterns, which is a problem. I’m trying to learn to count what I’m doing but it’s just so boring… I just want to knit and still end up with a good result, which of course is not possible. Oh well. 😁

It hurts my head to try to think about which way the decreases should tilt to get them to work. But somehow I made it through the heel part! Now I have to figure out the gusset(? I think that’s what you called it in one of your previous posts) but I think that’s easier. Just a decrease here and there, how wrong can it really go?

(Very wrong probably because like I said, I don’t really count…)

This is really pretty, once again I’m in awe!

The knitter friend of mine, my craft guru, participated in Sock Madness once and said it was very much the last time she'll do it. It’ll be interesting to hear about your experience if you decide to participate one year.

Somehow I’ve made progress at least!

Well this is a practice sock that doesn’t matter much. I just wanted to go through the whole sock process as a refresher, because I’m planning on learning to do a pattern with two colors next.

I haven't done anything crafty in weeks. I had so many ideas, and I didn't do any of them. So annoyed with myself.
It’s the same for me. I have a lot of abandoned projects I should finish (looking at you, blanket…) and lots of things I’d like to try, but somehow I just haven’t done anything.

I’ve been playing too many board games and video games lately to get anything else done. 😁

There is someone in my board game club who always knits while she waits for her turn and thinks about what she’ll do next. I don’t understand how she does it, he knitting is so effortless. So clearly board games and knitting can be combined, it’s just that I’m not at that level by a long shot…

This is super pretty! I watched a video on how to cable knit and then decided I won’t even try for now… Is it as difficult as it seems? 😁

I just started the next sock project today. It’ll probably take really long to finish because I’ll have to learn a new skill. Stranded knitting!

The plan is to use up some leftover yarns I have and make multicolored socks with a diamond pattern going around the foot part. I don’t know when I’ll finish. Maybe this becomes one of those eternal projects for me, but I will at least try! I’m curious about using multiple colors in patterns.

The pics are the yarns I’ve chosen and the little bit I’ve knitted so far today.

I am so bad at colour changes!!! And my next project, I’m planning stripes 😵‍💫 if you have any tips!!! Please! lol

As you presumed, cabling is balls in the worst meaning of the word balls 🫣

Good to know I made the right choice when I ditched the fleeting thought of cabling. That makes your gloves even more impressive!

What kind of stripes are you thinking of? I’m not necessarily a good source of information for color changes, as I can only make relatively wide horizontal stripes, so far. I don’t find it difficult the way I do it - I just take a loop of the new color when I start a new round and cut the original color. Hence wide stripes - this method would be tedious if you were to change the color every/every other round, because you end up with so many loose ends.

When I change the color, the spot where I start the new color always ends up being loose and stretched out. But it’s easy to fix: you just have to pull both the loose end of the first color and the loose end of the new color to tighten the first stitch every time you come back to that stitch in your round.

After a few rounds you won’t have to do that anymore. And when you finish and weave in the loose ends, you can tighten the looser loops further.

I’ll have to learn how to work with two colors simultaneously for my diamond pattern soon enough, so I guess I’ll post something about that process at some point. Watch this space!

I had to spend most of my day today in a space where no hackable gadgets are allowed, so no phone, no laptop, no nothing. Usually I bring a book, but today I took the sock project. I should have taken the one I had already started, but instead I chose to start the pair, which was a mistake.

I misremembered how long the yellow part was, and had no access to a picture of the sock so I could have double checked. Now the yellow part is way too long and I can’t decide if I can live with that or not. Gah. Why do I keep doing stupid things like that.

Realistically, I’m going to fuck up so many things down the line when I get to the diamond pattern part, so this will be minor compared to that. Maybe should just let this be and continue?

These are adorable! 😍 Do post a group picture of all the different color versions together, I bet it’ll be very cute.

My friend (aka my craft godmother) and I have set a date where we’ll first go shopping for yarn and then go somewhere to crochet together. The plan is to finally make a grub from the Hollow Knight. I’ve been trying many times with different patterns but I always fuck something up and it hasn’t worked out. Likely because I lack the skill to read a pattern and the patience (and skill) to count my stitches. 😂

My friend has now played the game as well and wants to make a grub for herself, so we’ll make them together and hopefully this time I won’t screw up as badly!

I'll definitely post a pic when I get them all done.

And yay for the grub! I know you've been wanting to do that for a while. It'll come out great, I bet. :)

It’s not perfect by a long shot, but it’s done! I learned a lot doing it so I think (hope) the pair will turn out better.
