The Crafting Thread - Show Us What You've Made!

I’m currently working on crocheting a tote bag!
That’s a nice project! Are you making a pattern?

I finished the second sock of the pair (so it’s already the sock #8 for me!) and in some ways it’s better than the first, in some ways it’s worse. It was very interesting to work with several colors and not as difficult or intimidating as I thought it would be. I learned a lot and I think the next multicolored project would go a lot smoother.

I spent 4 days dealing with my parents, knitting was a way to hide in plain sight and take my mind off certain things. Hence the (for me) warp speed, normally it takes me ages to finish a project.

I have already started to think about a few possible new knitting projects. 😁

No, I'm following a pattern I found online. It's a free pattern. The tote is made with a granny stripe pattern. Let me know if you want me to DM you the link!

Granny stripe sounds like a cool pattern for a tote!

I’d never heard of granny stripe before, so I googled and it looks really cool!

My eternal project is a granny square blanket which I may finish one day before I die. Or not. 😁

I’ve started a new knitting project, and I’m pretty sure the socks won’t fit me.

When I was at my parents’, I found a pattern that I wanted to try. The problem was that it was kid sized. Oops. I did my best to scale it up to me sized, but I’m not feeling too positive. 😔

The pattern is on the sock leg, which gives little leeway for the size, but who knows. Maybe I’ll actually manage to jam my foot in there once it’s done.

I’m trying to think of a way to make the other sock differently but so that the socks would still match. I have lots of time before that, though.

Hi, it’s me again.

So here’s what I’ve been working on. And as expected, it does not fit me. There are three rounds at the beginning below the eyes that I knitted too tight. Or rather, I I didn’t leave enough leeway to the yarn on the back side. I can *almost* squeeze my foot through, so I’m hoping a miracle will happen. I’ll soak the sock once it’s finished and hope it’ll help.

They’re supposed to be penguins. I’ll add the beaks and feet later to make them look a little less sperm-y…

They also look awful because I don’t know how to knit evenly with two colors… I think this may have been a little too difficult for my first larger project like this. The diamonds I was able to swing because they were small and repetitive and even they didn’t look amazing. My poor penguins look like they’re molting or something… 😁

They're still cute, though! They have character. 😁

I hate they don't fit, though. That sucks. I crocheted myself a shrug a couple of years ago, and when it came time to do the sleeves, I tried the body on, and it didn't fit, either. Extremely frustrating, after investing all that time and effort.

They do be having character for sure. 🤣

I’m a little hesitant about adding the beaks because they’ll have to be embroidered - another thing I’ve never tried before. But there’s still time before I need to cross that bridge, I still have the heel and the foot part to make. Besides how much worse can they look with the beaks than without? (she says naively…)

It is very frustrating when you put all that effort in and won’t be able to enjoy what you’ve made. What did you do with the shrug?

I thought about just trying from the beginning again, but then I figured that I probably have a friend who can wear the socks if I can’t. I have board game club tomorrow, so I’ll take the unfinished sock with me to see if it fits anybody there. If I can’t stretch it out enough to be able to wear the socks myself, I’ll give them someone. Ugly as they are. So I’ll get to play Prince Charming tomorrow. 🤣

I tried on the sock again, and I swear it went a little further than it did the previous time. So maybe there really is hope? I just need to wiggle it past the heel somehow (and then possibly cut it off my foot). I feel a little more positive about it fitting me once I get it wet and stretch it out a little. But who knows.

You may very well be able to stretch it enough to wear it. I hope you can! Yarn can be pretty stretchy, and knitting makes a stretchier fabric than crochet, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

I kept the body of the shrug, but I never added the sleeves. I guess in the back of my mind, I keep hoping maybe one day I'll be able to fit into it, lol.

Thanks, I really hope I’ll be able to squeeze into the socks. The problem is that the tightness comes from the yarn that run on the inside of the sock. Then I’m knitting white, the black yarn is running on the inside as is, no loopy loops that would help the yarn stretch. So that’s why you have to keep the inside yarn (I’m sure it has a name, but I don’t know what it would be in any language…) loose. I thought I did, but apparently it wasn’t enough.

The problem becomes bigger the wider the color blocks are. The issue is where the penguins’ faces are the widest. I just didn’t know it’d have to be *that* loose because I had never worked with a block so wide before. There are similar widths at the bottom of the penguins, but by the time I got to that part, I had already figured out that I need to be so, so vigilant about keeping the inside yarn nice and loose. So that’s why that part doesn't cause similar problems as the faces do.

I understand this sentiment so very well. ❤️
I just crocheted a cat bandanna last night. I'll finish the mushroom beanie today. Happy crafting, all!
Sounds very cute! Please share a pic of the beanie if you can, it sounds delightful! 🤩

It’s ready, except for the details that I have to somehow manage to embroider on them. I’ll go to a yarn store tomorrow for other yarn needs anyways, so I’ll look for a good color to use on the beaks while I’m there.

Good news - the sock fits! I got it wet and it stretched enough that I can actually wear the sock. Bad news - I should have done it sooner so that I could have tried on the sock while actually knitting it rather than waiting until it’s finished. The sock part is too wide for my foot, soooo… Yeah.

Like I mentioned at some point, the pattern was for kids sized socks, and the yarn and needles I used were also a size I hadn’t worked with before. So I had to scale up to make it me sized, and I’m not really experienced enough to be able to figure it out with all those variables and new things.

Well I learned a lot! I’m still going to finish the sock and make the pair, though.

Aaaand today was the day I was finally supposed to get the Hollow Knight grub amigurumi crocheted. Nope. Didn’t happen. I still ended up with a lopsided thing and didn’t bother finishing.

I’ll need to get better at counting or something before I try it the next time.

My friend who loves all kinds of crafts but has never made an amigurumi in her life also struggled with it though, so I feel a little less bad about my performance now. One day I’ll get it done, maybe!

Okay, the grub situation has evolved and I’ve managed to make the body, the stomach, the nose and one eye. One eye and six legs to go.

This has been so difficult and so painful. I can’t even… I want to finish because I’ve been wanting to make this for so long, but my hands are paying severely for my stubbornness. I realize this is the first (and maybe last) amigurumi I’ve made, so it’s not going to be perfect. I still wish it were better than it is, though. Sigh.

My appreciation for Bunny’s amazing skills in all things amigurumi has skyrocketed with this project for sure!

Well, Lit seems to have eaten my first reply to you, so I'm gonna try again, lol.

Amigurumi can be a royal pain in the ass. I totally understand how you feel, lol. But I think you're doing a fantastic job so far! You can definitely finish this. I've got faith in you!

Thank you!

It’s been so much more difficult than I ever expected! 🤯

It doesn’t show very well in the pic, but the back of the grub has humps while the front of it is flat. It was so difficult to get the humps to line up, because it’s crocheted as a spiral, so in my previous attempts the humps always ended up in slightly different positions rather than all being squarely in the back.

Even in this one, one of the humps is a little misaligned, but only by a stitch or two, so I decided to just go with it. It still annoys me, though. And my hands were so hurty and my brain was so tired by the time I got to the final decreases at the butt of the grub that I didn’t make the stitches tight enough there. So now the cotton peeks through there. Luckily it’s kind of the underside so it’s not glaringly obvious, but I know it and it bothers me… 😁 I should have fixed it, and I even tried to, but it didn’t get much better.

I’ve been scrolling through amigurumi fails threads on Reddit just to make myself feel better about my gaping and uneven stitches. It helps.

I hope I can manage the legs this week. They’ve proven to be the end of me, they’re so tiny!

Glove progress!! 💅🏼 🌱

The second piece is coming along much faster and I’m tickled pink to add another accessory to my knitting repertoire ☺️

I’m wondering how they’ll look after blocking and mild shaping because right now they’re giving wacky wavy inflatable arm guy meets sausage grinder 🙈

These are absolutely glo(ve)rious! 🤩

Eva’s perfection is a tough act to follow, but…

I finally finished the god damn grub! 🥳

It was the fiddliest thing I’ve ever made. Making it may have been the most masochistic thing I’ve ever done. Seriously. The legs were nearly the end of me, and it shows. They were so tiny and fiddly.

Oh these would be such cute needle tip protectors!!!! Do you have a pattern? 😍😍

You did it, yay! Congrats!

Omg, I hate tiny, fiddly stuff. But you did awesome with it. I'm so glad you got it done. :D
