The Diminishing Ratings

Hello to everyone!

I'm quite new here, with only my second story posted last month. Yet I am a little anxious as to why the ratings of my stories are slowly dwindling DOWN (!)

What could be the reason/s for this? Are the readers/browsers responsible? Does the voting have any effect on it?

I will be more than glad, and truly appreciate it, if some light is shed in my dilemma.

I noticed the same thing with the first story I posted a few months ago. I'm guessing that it is because the story is not listed as new anymore. A lot of people that are on here a lot probably read all the old stories and only look at new ones that pop up.

Voting is the only thing that affects the numerical score. Periodically, there is a "sweep" of suspicious ratings, though, which levels the playing field a bit.

It's possible that you had less critical readers in the beginning and/or more critical readers are voting now and/or you've been hit with a bunch of suspicious scores recently (and they've either been swept up or not swept up - both would affect your rating).

I'd suggest not worrying about it unless you're getting a lot of constructive criticism that's telling you an edit is necessary. For instance, if several people have complained about errors in your story, you'd probably be best off fixing them and resubmitting an edited version. However, if the feedback is overwhelmingly positive, let it be and see how the rating goes in the future.

Thank you for the reply. That maybe the probable cause, and in the meantime, I'll lean on it until I (we) can get a definite answer. I was just curious, and somehow, it affected my determination and belief in myself that I can write--ha-ha!

I suspected the same thought, and yet it did not console my bruised ego--ha-ha! Anyway, I had good criticisms, although a handful only, and a wonderful scores re viewership. So, I was a bit puzzled that I had to ask.
