The Economy

I’ve been posting economic news in the “Thanks Biden” thread, but I think it’s time for a new dedicated thread.

Let’s begin with today’s good economic news:

US economic growth increased last quarter to a healthy 2.8% annual rate

Good news indeed.

The economy is cyclical so an eventual downturn is inevitable, but it’s not here yet.

I’m sure all Americans will be pleased by the continued strength of the economy.
okay I can give you credit that you copied and pasted like a professional and you have no idea what the numbers mean nor do you understand what business is. Hell, you can't even create one dollar of value

Home sales: down in March

Existing home sales declined sharply in March, a sign that the 6% mortgage rates of earlier this year did little to bring buyers back into the market.

And homebuying conditions are arguably worse now: Rates are higher, inflation is up, and general uncertainty is weighing on the economy.

Home sales dropped 3.6% month over month in March to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 3.98 million, and they are down 1% from a year ago, according to National Association of Realtors (NAR) data released on Monday.

When it comes to gas and oil prices, Democrats in California are facing increasing push-back, as the U.S. Oil and Gas Association and others blast claims that the Iran conflict, President Trump, or so-called corporate greed are responsible for the state’s prices, which are among the highest in the nation.

Governor Gavin Newsom's Press Office thought it would test its luck against Chevron, writing on X, "While America suffers, Chevron profits." For emphasis, the governor posted a picture of a Reuters article stating that Chevron expects to earn between $1.6 billion and $2.2 billion in the first quarter of 2026.

However, they got absolutely destroyed by a community note pointing out that the State of California actually makes more profit per gallon of gas than any gas company does in the state.

"The State of California collects more in taxes per gallon of gasoline than refineries such as Chevron, Shell, or Valero collect in profit per gallon," the note read. "From CA's own state energy website, on average, the state of California collects about $0.71 per gallon of gas; meanwhile, the average profit a company like Chevron rakes in is typically under $0.20 per gallon, depending on the quarter. And that figure is before taxes. The note also reveals a deeper truth about Democrat government.

These things are true:
  • US oil companies are making huge profits because the TrumpIran War ran up oil prices
  • US citizens’ cost of living has increased because of higher gasoline prices
Americans paid an extra $8 billion for gasoline in the first month of Trump’s war.

Yahoo? Question those numbers.
And you keep calling it Trumps war? Operation Epic Fury is defense. No war has been declared. Certainly not Trump's. Trump has the football right now. We know where our nukes are and how to use them. We know where our missiles are and how to use them.

We are at war with Iran.

We have not declared war on anyone.

Not much of a difference except pedantically.

We are not at war with Iran.

“See, I get into a war — of course, they call it a war, I call it a military conflict...But there’s a legal reason for that.”

“I said, ‘Look, you know, we have a thing called a war,’ or as they would rather say, a military operation. It’s for legal reasons...I say ‘military’ because as a military operation, I don’t need any approvals. As a war, you’re supposed to get approval from Congress. Something like that.”

Makes sense after the US tariffs on aluminum just blew up in their face and have had dramatically reduce them; in some cases literally blowing up. Amazaing how they thought stopping buy from Canada and getting aluminum from the middle east would have any problems, not like it had to go through the Strait of Hormuz or anything...oh, wait

You have a spoiled rich kid that went bankrupt 6 times after his daddy died and couldn't bail him out. That is not to mention an ajudicated rapist and convicted felon. My guess is we will see or get close to a recession. This crap with oil is only just beginning as the pipe line is about to empty.
