The Enharatence

as the night went on drake gave his grand da his version of what happened out in the garden at the party and then decided to head to bed and check on the lass tomorrow

Jess woke later than ushual for her and decided what she needed was some fresh air and to work, so she got dressed in jeans and and old long sleeved shirt and hiked up the little trail behind her cabin to finish the painting she had already started of the landscape.

Draco woke and decided he would go up to the moors to watch the birds and then he would check on the lass

Jess wasnt paying much attention to anything accept the painting she was doing.. she stepped back to look at it and smiled satisfied with her work she was unaware of the picture she made.

her hair was up in a ponytail but several strands had worked there way loose to frame her features there were a few paint smudges here and there not only on her clothing but on her cheek and forhead as well.

she turned and began cleaning her brushes intending to return to the cabin after she ate the small lunch she had packed and brought with her..

draco sat astride his horse watching the birds and thinking to his self leting the horse wander where it would till he looked ahead and saw the vary thing he had been thinking on the lass jess or what had granda said her name was

Jess looked around at the sound of horses hooves on the ground and saw Draco.. she hadnt seen him sence the party last night, and was suprised to see him so soon, she had hoped to avoid them for awhile.

His grand da was kind enough, but his grandson seemed rather indifferent and kept to himself.. accept when he had helped her.. she wondered what it was he wanted..

good day sir... how can i help you this fine day ? she asked as she began to finish packing away her paint tools and suplies keeping herself busy while they talked the painting itself was nearly dry enough for her to carrie home..

nothing at all miss i was intending to stop by and see how you where doing but later i was just out for a ride at moment to watch the eagles over the moores

they are lovely... and you need not worrie i am as you can see very well.. she said following his gaze out across the mores watching the eagles fly. Inside she thought his grandfather had probably made him come from the look on his face and from the party she could tell this wasnt really something he wanted to do.

I do want to thank you again for your help at the party.. and to let you know that dispite your grandfathers match making scheams i have no entention on being aparty to them so you dont have to stay if you dont want to. she looked back twords him then waiting to see what he would say or do.

ah lass there is some thing ya ought to know my grand father is a stuburn man and so am i even me granda cant get me to do a thing i dont whant to he aint exactly winning yet on my hole getting hitched now is he any one would have better luck getting one them eagles to come to there arm then ta get me to do a thing ginst me will

with that he nodded his head and nudged his horse on his way following the eagles as they sored on the thermals over the mores

Jess watched him go understanding his refusal to wed.. who wanted to get married because they were made to do so... she wouldnt like it much ether if she was in his place.. she gathered her painting and supplys packing them away.

She carried them back down to the cabin she was renting from Draco's gran da and set about making a stew for supper.. the wind picked up with a bit of a chill to it slowly as she walked back looking up at the sky she could see a storm rolling in she made it to the cabin and inside just before the rain broke loose..

She thought about Draco wondering if he were caught out in it or if he had noticed it coming and found shelter.. he could take care of himself she thought.. she set a fire going in the fire place and prepaired her stew setting it to a slow simmer..

Back at the keep Jamie's heart begain bothering him and his buttler sent for the doctor... the buttler helped Jamie to his room and into bed.. Jamie grabbed his arm and swore the buttler and the doc to silence.. he didnt want Draco knowing about any of this.. he wanted his grandsons mind on finding a bride not worried about and old mans health... he hoped the lad would come around soon... or not only would he lose his enharatance but his granda as well..

the doctor left just before Draco returned from his ride. The buttler had instructions to tell Draco only that his granda was tired and had gone to bed.

as draco came in he saw tire tracks in the drive and new the doc had been there him being the only one that would drive here all the rest would ride a horse or a cariige

but maybe doc just came for a game of chess

Jess stopped by the castle the next day to thank the older gentleman for his hospitality and the use of the cabin but at the end of the week she would be returning to the states. She was a bit puzzled when he did not receive her as was his custom she inquired after his health and promised to return at a later date.

Shortly after Jess left the old man sent for his grandson.. it seemed he had less time than he had thought...

draco trudged in to answer the summons from his granda he had just came in from checking on a report of pochers on their land when he had be grabbed by one of the servants and told that granda whanted to speack to him

When his grandson finally arrived doc had returned and was checking the old man vitals Jamie was pail in color and looked his full age as well as extreamly tired. Jamie saw Draco in the door and waved him over so he wouldn't have to yell. Jamie had been doing a lot of thinking and changed his mind.. Draco would inharet aether he Wed or not.

The doc told him he had anywhere from weeks to a few months maybe maybe a year if he took proper care."Draco lad glad I am ta see ye there is much we needs discuss "

Jamie paused a bit as the doc put him on oxygen before continuing " ya do not have ta Wed if ye don't wish... I was wrong to force ye what time I have left I want ta be good between us." He stopped there to give Draco a chance to sleek and already hard plans to change the will tomorrow

Doc looked at Draco sadly and molded conformation that Jamie spoke true the had been friends a long time.

draco looked at his granda and the rebelus streak his family had tryed to rear up but he smashed it he didnt whant to up set granda well its good that ya have stopped treating me as a prized studd gran and realized ill marry when im ready to if at all

Jamie looked pained and wanted to argue his grandsons words.. he hadnt ment to make him feel that way, but he couldnt argue the fact ether.. it was only that he had wanted to see Draco happly wed and perhaps see a grandchild or two before the end came, but unfortuantly it didnt matter now.

Aye lad.. yer right i canna argue nor shall i try... the buttler came and left a card on the table before leaving the room. It was a simple get well card and inside a message of thanks from Jess about lending her the cabin for her stay and that she would be leaving at the end of the week, she hoped Jamie would recover soon and all would be well.

jamie looked at the card and asked if draco would give his thanks and his reguards to jess the next time he saw her and drco bowed and said ay granda that i will ill ride out to give her them soon as we be done

Draco lad.. your gran da needs some rest now you can visit more later doc said not trying to intrude but seeing Jamie is getting tried he moves up next to Jamies side taking the card and laying it asside.

he begins checking Jamies vitals again ect before sitting down in a chair next to Jamies bed and picking up one of Jamies favorite books begins to read out loud to Jamie leaving Draco to do as he will . Doc and Jamie had been friends for many years and had grown up together.. it wasnt easy for doc to see his friend in this condition ether he could only immagine how Drako felt.

Jess had been out hiking when it started to rain and had just returned to the cabin, she left her muddy shoes outside the door and hung her Jacket on a coat hook near the door. Her hair and cloths were soaking wet.. she decided to start a fire in the fire place and then would go take a bath.

She found herself thinking of the old man Jamie and hoping he would be alright.. and that things between him and his grandson would work themselves out. she walked to the kitchen bare footed and started some coffe going in the coffe pot before truning to go start her bath water.

as the doc sent him out draco grab his rain slicker and boots and headed for the stables he told his granda he was going to pay his regaurds and thanks to jess and so he would rain or no rain he did hope she was home and hadint took of to town or any thing

hearing a knock at the cabin door Jess paused on her way to start her bath water wondering who could be at the door and in this weather.

She was still in wet cloths but the cabin was already warming up thanks to the fire she had started. Going to the door she opened it suprised to see Draco standing there. Draco.. do please come in out of the rain.. she said standing asside so he could enter.

draco nodded his thanks as he stepped in and said tanks lass i came to give you my grandas and my thanks and regaurds for the card you sent things shouldnt be so strained around the house now grands relented on trying to marry me off so ye be welcome to stop in if ya like not that ya wernt be fore ye understand

Jess smiled listining to Draco talk and hun his jacket next to hers. I am glad things are better between you and your grand father.. and i do understand, you had no more wish for another person being shoved your way then i had of finding myself invted for that reasion.

Still bare foot, Jess walked into the kitchen. would you like some coffe it looks like the stroms just getting started and will last a good long while yet

nuh lass but a dram of wiskey if ye have it or some tea if not would be fine thanks i never touch coffee me self its hard on the singing voice

Jess smiled having trouble immagining Drake siniging but nodded and opened up the cabinet getting out two glass's i found a bottle in the cabinet when i came should be back here stands on tip toe reaching up to the back of the cabinet for the bottle.

here lass let me get that draco says as he steps up behind her and grabs it from around her hes close enuff to smell the scent of her hair it smells like the flowers that grow in the higher reaches of the morrs
