Again Ruby put on her acting persona, smiling sweetly, relaxed.

"No thanks, it's fine. I'll see you later for our date." And she turned away to go into her bedroom. Ruby hid just around the door until she heard Papa Bear leave, and then deflated like a party balloon with a pinhole in it. She slumped to the floor and let out a deep sigh. There was so much to think about, so much to do.

Her first priority was probably to find out what she was doing wrong with Papa Bear. He didn't really want her despite all the nice things he'd said. Ruby twirled just like Papa Bear wanted, smiling and happy, happy to be admired and complimented. She had got the dress just right for her date with him, and linked arms ready to go.

She then turned her attention back to her substitute date and gripped Dominic's upper arm with both of her hands.

"So where are we going tonight?" she asked, as if excited.

Dominic Trenton was on top of the world. He was the so star with the hottest actress in the coolest movie in the last 5 years! He was rich! He had offers coming through all hours of the day! His bank accounts were phat! He drove a 2023 convertible lexus of his favorite color as well as a Dodge Ram 2500 pick up. "Olivette's." He said and looked to the guard saying, "You can take another car. The convertible only has two seats."

He immediately turned and walked with her out the door, her arm hooked in his hand, a smile on her face and a fucking hot little blue dress on that he was crazy to get under.

Axel glared at the two as they walked off. He was NOT what he hoped he would be. Immature and childish. He didn't like him. He didn't like them at all. He REALLY didn't like him when he was told to take the second elevator too.

He slid into the SUV they drove and headed to Olivette's finding him parking in VIP... Yeah. He would have to end this and end it quickly.
 
Ruby was surprised that Dominic was so much fun. It was as if he was a school friend that she hadn't seen in ages and had forgotten that she liked. They laughed and joked about their first film all the way to the restaurant where someone parked Dominic's very pretty little car for him while they went in amid a broken salvo of camera flashes. It seemed that someone had tipped off the gossip press. Probably Mrs. Brotherton, Ruby guessed. Oh well.

The way Dominic had shown off his little four-wheeled toy had made Ruby smile; he was such a boy. They did like showing off their cars as if they impressed girls. But it was a very pretty car. And riding with the top down and the engine purring had been fun. A lot of fun. She felt freer than she had in ages. Maybe, just maybe, she was going to enjoy this date.

She checked over her shoulder as they walked through Olivette's doors but couldn't see Axel and wondered where he'd got to. He'd promised not to leave her side, but maybe he changed his mind and decided that a less obtrusive supervision was more appropriate for a quiet private date. A private date with photographers present. Oh well.

They were seated by the Maitre D himself as if they were honoured guests, and it suddenly occurred to Ruby that actually, they were quite well known and might get special treatment. She wasn't used to the idea though Dominic clearly was and seemed to treat it as his due, as if somehow he'd earned it. Ruby, on the other hand, was still Just Ruby.

Suddenly she missed the reassuring presence of Papa Bear, and under the cover of the table linen put her hand inside her clutch bag to grip the gold-tasseled blue velvet. That made her feel better, though she had kept up the happy, bubbly exterior of a girl on a date with a desirable guy. And Dominic was desirable. But he knew it and acted like he knew it. He probably didn't realise how off-putting that was. But she would do her best and once dinner was over Papa Bear would take her home and reward her for being a good girl for a whole day.

She ordered the Special and asked for wine and was given a complimentary cocktail to the accompaniment of Dominic talking about himself, his film offers, his glittering future, and their immediate future as the hottest Hollywood couple of the moment. Ruby reckoned that if he was thinking like that, then presumably others were, too. Except she didn't want to be part of a couple. She would have to ask Doc Stryder. She certainly couldn't ask Papa Bear in case he got upset and wanted to punish her.

With more alcohol inside than she was used to, Ruby again looked around for her Papa Bear, one hand gripping tight to the blue velvet bag.
 
'Domonic must die' Axel thought as he burst past the host looking for Ruby and finding her glancing the other looking a bit nervous. He gave a whistle which caused her to spin her head to see him! He could see a wave of relief cover her face as he walked into the dining room towards her. He leaned down as he approached the table saying, "Are you okay?"

Dominic scoffed, "Of course she is okay old man. She is very safe with me."

Axel's glare shifted from Ruby towards Dominic and didn't stop. He was trembling with anger which was met by Dominic's devil may care smile. Dominic said, "Why don't you get out of my face old man before I got to teach you a lesson you won't soon forget."

Axel couldn't believe the audacity of this asshat as he glared at him. Did the boy know he could kill him with a single throat shot? This kid had no fucking clue who he was dealing with.

He felt a hand touch his though and glanced to find it was Ruby's. Finally, he straightened up from leering over the table and said, "I will be over there. Enjoy your meal..." He meant that ONLY for Ruby.

As he turned, Dominic said, "Yeah. Thought so. Punk ass old man thinks he can intimidate me with his mean stare. Bitch ass old fart got no clue who he dealing with."

Axel froze a few steps away, clenching his fist tightly till his knuckles were white. He took a long slow breath, calmed his core and continued over to the wall, where he turned and studied the area returning to his job.

He didn't even bother to look at Ruby this time. He was so pissed he was ready to break a skull. It wasn't Ruby's fault he thought, but she hadn't done anything to calm it down... so who knew.

"Hey Axel." A woman's voice said causing him to turn his head to see Doctor Evans walking over in a stunning little lime green sun dress and 4" heels.

His eyes widened in mild surprise. She was stunning! He said, "Wow, you really dress up nicely."

"Thank you! What are you doing here Axel?" She said glancing about the dining area.

"I am working." He said calmly as he glanced over to see Ruby's head turning back away from him. Had she just been looking at him?

"Oh. Shame. I am meeting a few of my friends tonight. A ladies night in truth. That is Doctor Reynolds from pediatrics and Doctor Willis from oncology." She pointed to the other two ladies at the table sipping drinks and looking flirtatous.

"I see. Well, don't let me hold you up." Axel said glancing over at Ruby and Dominic. He could see the asshat boy was talking pretty much non-stop over there while Ruby seemed to sit quietly.

"I... was meaning to ask you. Would you be interested in ... maybe meeting for coffee or something one evening?" She said blushing fiercely.

Axel looked back to her and said, "Like... a date?"

"Well, ... yeah... like a date." She said and then pulled a pen from her purse. She said, "Here is my number." She took his hand and wrote her phone number on it. Axel felt his own face flush a bit as she wrote on it. He glanced back to Ruby who seemed determinedly NOT looking at him, though he did catch a glance from her. Doctor Evans said, "There you go. Thank goodness she wasn't one of those girls prone to emotional extremes or moodiness, or she might have experienced a full range of flip-flopping, Ruby thought to herself.

She had turned back to Dominic, her date, who was still droning on about something she wasn't even listening to, while the mini volcano inside her heated up towards the danger level, fuelled no doubt by the excessive amount of alcohol she had drunk. Okay, she knew volcanos didn't exactly work like that but it wasn't the point. She wanted to explode in a violent eruption.

They had kissed! KISSED! Ruby saw the whole thing, the disgustingly pretty doc in the sexy dress gave Axel her phone number and kissed him!

Ruby's hand still gripped the blue velvet bag and she had only just calmed down from her insecurity of not having Papa Bear next to her, where he was supposed to be. Now she knew why. She stood, held out her arm, and waited for a brief moment while Dominic hurried to settle with the waiter and reassure the Maitre D that nothing was wrong, even hinting that he had scored and was about to take his date to heaven. They walked arm in arm passing close by Axel, Ruby not looking at him but fawning all over Dominic, stroking his upper arms, even kissing him again on tiptoes like she was trumping the pretty doc, smack on the lips, almost swallowing his tongue, right where Axel would see.

"And yes, I'd love to go for a drive with you in that hot car of yours, Dominic!" she gushed, purely to punish Axel. She also thrust his little blue velvet bag at him, into his middle, hoping his strong and skilled hands would instinctively catch it.

If he was playing elsewhere and cheating on her, well, two could play that game.

The car was waiting for them out front, engine running, lid down, cameras flashing as the Hollywood-Hot couple got in, Ruby unintentionally flashing too much leg but not caring since the alcohol had dissolved her caution. Neither of them noticed the photojournalists following as they took off in a flashy show of young male bravado.

Now that she'd done it, Ruby was almost overcome by guilt. What had she done? Why had she needed to hurt her Papa Bear. And she didn't even have her gold-tasseled blue velvet bag for comfort.

Glancing at Dominic she saw that he was grinning like he'd won the lottery, driving fast, hands busy on the wheel, eyes on the road, probably aiming for some lonely spot to take her.

Suddenly she felt very alone and vulnerable. Where was her Papa Bear? She didn't even have her phone to cry for him to rescue her. Tears streamed from her eyes. Maybe it was just the wind in her face.
 
Axel and Doctor Evans turned in disbelief as Miss Sommers and Dominic Trenton stormed past and was immediately swallowed up by the paparazzi as they snapped photo after photo, pushing microphones in their directions wanting statements if this was some kind of new love interest! Axel could see it now in the morning that Ruby and Dominic were Hollywood's new top tier power couple.

His eyes shifted down to the bag in his hand and Linda looked at it as well saying, "What is that?"

He said nothing at first as he thumbed the bag open to see the cards inside and then closed it saying, "Nothing... now."

He turned to leave only to have paparazzi basically wall him out as they power couple headed out the front doors. Dominic smiled once more for the photographers as he swooped Ruby into his arms, leaned her down and kissed her in old school way. The camera flashes went crazy at that point as the kiss heard around the world!

He looked to Evans saying, "I got to go. If you will excuse me." He tried to push through the groups of photographer but by the time he made it out to the parking lot, the power couple... was gone.

Linda walked up to him saying, "Umm... I think you client left her phone on the table. Here." She slid the phone into his hand. He glanced at it and noted it was hers with the phone cover on it. He felt like crushing it now! He would NEVER hear the end of it from Kiana and Heather.

He looked to Linda and said, "Do you have your pen?"

She smiled and pulled it out and he gathered it and opened her hand up saying, "Here is mine." He scribbled his phone number into her hand as well. One thing he was absolutely certain about was he didn't need to be involved with some woman who had never grown up. He looked at Linda saying, "I am off tomorrow evening. Care to grab a burger?"

Linda just smiled and nodded.

"YES! I KNOW this doesn't reflect well on me. What did you want me to do though?" Axel spoke into his phone as he drove around town looking for that fucking yellow car.

"You are her Chief of Security! You are in charge of her safety! You let her slip away with Mr. Trenton and now she is unsupervised out there with a viper!" Kiana barked at a level just shy of screaming.

"It was either that or I yanked her away like a wounded child. Which image did you want in Hollywood Babble?!"

There was a definite silence for several seconds and finally she said, "True. That's true. But she can barely take care of herself. You need to find her before something happens! What caused her to do this?!? Oh you know what, it doesn't matter. Find her and bring her home Axel!"

"If you have any addresses I can swing by to look for that car, that would help." Axel said as he glanced.

"Okay. I will see what I can do." She said and then hung up.

He turned down the road to Baldwin Lookout which was about 10 miles from him. It was the only other thing he could think of.

As he was turning into the area, he felt his phone buzz once more. He glanced at the caller ID and it showed a local number from Hollywood area code. He turned the phone on saying, "This is Mr. Cadell."
 
He answered!

"Please come get me! Rescue me!" Ruby sobbed and spluttered into the pay phone, trying to control herself enough to make some sense. "It's me, Ruby, just Ruby." The last two words fell in a cadence of despair. He demanded to know where she was, and she managed to read the information on the beauty spot's pay phone, put there for callers needing the emergency services.

Ruby sat on a kerbstone hugging her knees, distraught with herself, sobbing. She had behaved badly. Very badly. As badly as it was possible to behave. And ruined everything. Even her makeup was a mess. Thankfully it hadn't been quite that bad when the awful gutter photographer had snapped them struggling in the open car. But what had Dominic been thinking, trying to force himself on her? She was repulsed at the memory of his hand up her skirt trying to rip her panties off.
