Brietta

"How did you sleep?"
Brietta shruged her shoulders slightly.
"Fairly well all things considered." she said before sipping some more of the soup.

Daniel Enex

"Fairly well all things considered."
"I'm glad. Well, we better be off. No sense waisting the day away." As if by magic the two Roman soldiers Daniel didn't know very well rose from their sleeping bags and sat down next to the fire, helping themselves to some soup. Daniel also saw Alex stir, and he knew that his friend was awake but he was pretending not to be.
"Right, I'll pack the things up. You just enjoy your breakfast and we will be on the road soon." Daniel said, walking over to the horses. He grabbed out a brush and began to brush the horses fur, then threw the blankets back onto their backs, followed by their primitive saddles. He loaded up the pack horse, and by that time the others were packing up their things, and Alex was no longer pretending to be asleep but occationally would send Daniel some angry glares. 'Let him be angry!' he thought to himself. It was his fault and he knew it but Alex should have realized that right now he needed a friend more than ever. He was glad to see however that Alex had made no move on Brietta, not yet fulfilling his vow from the day before.

Brietta

After she finished her soup Brietta began to pack and get ready to leave again. She noticed that Alexander was now up and kept a warry eye on him. She hoped that his vow last night had just been an outburst of anger and frustration, but just in case... she ran her fingers lightly down the length of the long Roman dagger that Daniel had given her, now hanging from the belt around her waist. She hoped she would not have to use it.

ooc: is devious101 still posting?

Daniel Enex

OOC: dunno, I guess its just you and me

Daniel mounted up on his horse after getting everything set up, and started warming it up, trotting in circles around the clearing. He watched Alex closely hoping he would not do anything stupid, because if he did Daniel would have to step in. At this point he didn't think hurting his friend would be the best for their friendship, or for the groups survival. Twenty minutes later they were on the road again and Daniel, like the day before was in the lead. He smiled widely when Brietta rode up next to him.
"Where should we go? You must know this region better than I. I honestly have no idea what to do next, I would appreciate your opinion." he asked. He watched her long hair flow in the wind as she adjusted the bow slung over her shoulder. She was truly a beautiful creature and he wanted nothing more than to kiss her like the night before. He forced himself to look at the road ahead as she spoke. He unconsiously slid the gladius strapped to the saddle of his horse up and down, keeping it clear.

Brietta

OOC: sorry, I pm'ed you and you never responded

"Where should we go? You must know this region better than I. I honestly have no idea what to do next, I would appreciate your opinion."

Brietta smiled back at Daniel, pleased that he valued her say on the matter. He was right, she was indeed very familiar with area. They had just entered into the outer edges of her clan's lands, her kingdom. In fact she was rather surprised that they had not come into contact with any of her clansmen already.

"Well I suppose the answer to your question depends on whether you would like to avoid your enemy or if you are searching for them. Either way I think they will find you."

As if on cue several arrows shot through the air.

Daniel Enex

Daniel was about to tell her that he hoped that when they did find him they wouldn't kill him when his horse took a small sidestep to avoid a root. Then he felt something smash into his shoulder, sticking between the plates in the armor. Another arrow barely missed his left ear. Daniel tried to grab his shield but the arrow cut deeply into his arm when he reached forward. He instead kicked his horse infront to Brietta, guarding her with his larger body. He pulled the arrow out, feeling the warm blood soak down his arm. Then knowing that more arrows were coming dropped between their two horses and pulled Brietta down with him. Felix and Agustus brought their horses around in to shield them as they dove for cover in a small dip next to the road. Daniel pushed Brietta hard into the hole, he hoped he didn't hurt her but they had no time for being subtle. He dove in next to her as he looked over his shoulder as Agustus took two arrows in the chest.
"Run!" Daniel ordered Felix and Alex. While Felix looked for conframation of the order from Alex an arrow slipped into his throat and he dropped off of his horse. When Daniel put his head up again Alex was no where to be seen.
"Brietta, will they kill me if I surrender? I have to know now, cause there are a dozen of your clansmen coming this way and I don't want any of then to get hurt, even in they just killed two Roman's." As he was speaking he drew the Gladii off of his shoulders and got ready to jump to his feet.

Brietta

Brietta was not struck by any of the arrows, but then again they were not aimed at her. She knew that her people would never purposely attack a woman even if they did believe her to be a Roman. Daniel quickly moved his horse in front of hers and she saw him pull an arrow from his arm. Next thing she knew he was pulling her down from her horse and then pushing her over to the side of the road. She landed with a small "oomph!" and he followed shortly after.

"Brietta, will they kill me if I surrender? I have to know now, cause there are a dozen of your clansmen coming this way and I don't want any of them to get hurt, even in they just killed two Roman's."

Brietta could not believe it. This enigma of a man continued to surprise her. She knew he was capable of taking down most if not all of their attackers but instead he was choosing to surrender.

"No. No Daniel they won't kill you." she said earnestly while staring straight into his eyes, "I won't let them, I swear to you."

Then she did something she never thought she would do. She kissed him.

Daniel Enex

Daniel was stunned by her quick kiss, he nearly forgot what she said about them not killing him, but when he heard their battle cries just a few feet away he tossed the two blades in his handsout of the ditch followed by his third gladius and his dagger. By that time the clanspeople were now approching slowly, being utterly confused. When they saw him stand with his hands held high, well his right high and his left as high as it would go with the wound. They looked at each other, seeing a roman officer surrendering to them.
"Please don't hurt this woman. She is one of you, she is actually your queen and you will find that she is unharmed." Daniel said in the British language. When she stood up one of the clansmen leveled a reposessed roman spear at her and Daniel instinctively pulled her behind him. "I surrender. Please, just don't hurt her. I will do what you want, and I will bring no harm to your people, I swear on my honor."
The clansmen sudddenly began to chuckle. "There is no honor among the Roman's. You are just dogs who take what is not yours. We do not make deals with dogs."
"Well, I tried." he said to himself and looked over his shoulder at Brietta. "A little help convincing your blue friends not to hack me to pieces?" he asked, still standing protectively in front of her.

Brietta

"A little help convincing your blue friends not to hack me to pieces?"

Placing a hand on his uninjured arm in an attempt to console him, Brietta moved from behind Daniel and faced her people with her chin held high. The end of the spear was now aimed straight at her abdomen but she did not budge.

"Lower your weapon Caradoc." she said firmly, calling the man by name.

She saw confusion, then recognition sweep across his features.

"Queen Brietta?" he said in shock.

A small smile spread across Brietta's lips and she used a hand to pull back her long hair so that it did not conceal her face. Sounds of surprise were heard from the other men. Caradoc slowly lowered the spear.

"We thought you were dead, that the Romans had killed you!" one said.

"Well as you can see I am clearly alive. What this man has told you is true. He has protected me despite a direct order from his general demanding my beheading. He is not to be harmed, that is an order!"

"Well as you can see I am clearly alive. What this man has told you is true. He has protected me despite a direct order from his general demanding my beheading. He is not to be harmed, that is an order!"
Daniel felt extremelly releaved as they stoped pointing their weapons at him. He knew that they would not take their eyes off of him for a second but that was an improvement over them trying to kill him.

An hour later the sun was hovering over the horizon as the two blue men threw Daniel into a small tent, hands bound. His head hit the ground hard and he lay there for a moment blinking the stars out of his eyes before he sat up and looked around. The tent had only one opening, a small table with a trio of candles on its top and a small but somehow comfortable looking bedroll. He thought it could probably be worse. ten minutes later, as he rested his aching head against the table and Brietta walked in scolding the guards he knew it could be a lot worse.
"Thanks for the friendly reception, next time maybe we could have less of those two guards throwing me to the ground on my head?" he asked in s serious tone but with a smile on his face. He couldn't help but smile when he saw her, especially when he thought about the kiss she had given him earlier. He hoped he could return the favor.

Brietta

OOC: Just so you know, I don't think they painted their skin blue all the time, just when they were going to battle. Just wanted to make that clear so you weren't invisioning a 'smurf' camp or something.

"Thanks for the friendly reception, next time maybe we could have less of those two guards throwing me to the ground on my head?"

Though still upset by her conversation with the guards Brietta's expression softened when she saw Daniel. She had not had time yet to change and was still wearing the dress and weapons he had given her. In her hands she carried a bowl of food and a pitcher of water for him.

"I'm afraid you will find that you do not have many friends here Daniel."

She walked over to where he was and placed the food and water on the table next to the already lit candles before knealing down next to him. Using the dagger he had given her, she cut the roap that bound his hands.

"I have tried my best to explain to them that you are not like the others but it will take time. For now you are to be under the watch of two guards at all time. It will help to ease the people's fears. You know where our camp is now. If you were to escape and inform the others..."

Her voice trailed off. After a moment she spoke again.

"You best let me help you out of your armor so I can see to your wound."

Daniel Enex

Daniel sat up a little when she spoke of helping him out of his armor. He hadn't really thought about his shoulder for a few minutes, although now that he did he saw a small line of blood dripping slowly off of one of his fingers down all the way from his shoulder. He stood and began pulling on straps and watching the plates drop away. He needed her help for the straps on the right side because his left arm was in pain, but it wasn't so bad. When they had the chest and shoulder peices off he sat down on the bedroll and pulled his shin guards off, then his bracers. She sat down next to him and he began to pull off his shirt, but then decided hesitated. He had always been slightly uncomfortable showing people the many scars from Roman whips that covered his back. He noticed that she gave him a quizical look and then decided that if she was going to accept him as a friend and maybe more he should just be upfront about having been a slave and a gladiator for many years.
"It is really not as bad as it looks." he said pulling the shirt off and slowly down his left arm. She didn't look to worried until she put her hands on his shoulder and felt one of the razed scars with the tip of a finger and took a quick glance at his back.
"Roman whips are unforgiving." he said. he didn't want to explain the whole thing but he really did not want to see that look of horror in her eyes. He took her hands and looked back into her eyes. "My shoulder hurts, think you know of anything to make it feel better? There isn't anything that will heal those hurts, they are deeper then the ruined skin." Daniel could tell that she was trying to focus on his shoulder. The look of horror was still there, only not quite as pronounced. He regreted taking his shirt off now. He could have just as easily torn off his shirt sleeve. Nowhe felt really stupid.

Brietta

She had just begun to examin the wound on his shoulder when she felt something. Glancing at his back she saw that it was covered in scars. Not the scars of war, but long slashes spaning its entire length. She could not conceal the shock in her eyes.

"Roman whips are unforgiving."

Roman whips? Brietta didn't understand. Why would the Romans whip one of their own men. She could tell he was trying to distract her when he took her hands in his and looked into her eyes.

"My shoulder hurts, think you know of anything to make it feel better? There isn't anything that will heal those hurts, they are deeper then the ruined skin."

She took one of her hands from his and placed it softly on his cheek. She wished she could erase all the pain that had created those scars, all the pain of his memories. But she was still confussed.

"But Daniel...why would your own people whip you?"

Daniel Enex

"I was not always a Roman Centurion. I was sold into slavery when I was young. It is a tale for another time, but please do not worry about me. I have lived with this for a long time, and I have come to realize that none of it was my fault. I am okay," he lied. He hoped to ease the horror in her eyes, it worked a little. There was only one thing he could think of doing. He leaned in and kissed her softly at first, thenas he put his hand to her back, he pulled her backwards on top of him as they continued to kiss, it was becoming a little more heated.

Brietta

Daniel's confession that he had once been a slave surprised her to say the least, but when he leaned in and kissed her it was hard for Brietta to think of anything except the feel of his lips gently tasting her own. She hardly even noticed when he placed his hand on her back and pulled her down on top of him. She had secretly wanted this since last night when he had kissed her just outside their camp. Except this was no quick kiss like the one before. This one was long, lingering, and growing in passion. He awoke sensations within her that she had not realized existed. She tried feebily to remind herself why being with this man was so forbidden. Needing to catch her breath she suddenly pulled back from the kiss, her heart pounding wildly within her chest.

"We should stop...your shoulder..."

Daniel Enex

Suddenly Daniel felt her pull away from him. He frowned as he opened his eyes and looked up through the dim light. Her long hair fell in a sheet and tickled the right side of his face. She looked breathtaking with the candle light dancing over her face.
"We should stop...your shoulder..."

Daniel smiled slightly as he strocked her lower back. "It is worse than it looks. The armor took most of the hit. But I suppose you are right, it does seem to keep bleeding." Daniel slowly ran his hand along the belt that wrapped her hips and drew out the long knife. "Heat this, and burn the wound closed." he said quietly. He honestly didn't know how she would react, but he hoped she would not be disgusted. He loved feeling her lithe body on top of his. Her warmth made the world seem perfect. The way her body fit with his made him think the gods had sculpted her to fit his body. Maybe they had? That was a comforting thought.

Brietta hesitated only a moment before taking the knife from Daniel and sitting up so that she stradled his waist while he remained lying beneath her. She had seen people cauterize wounds before of course, but she had never done it herself. She knew though how painful the experience could be. Sometimes men even passed out from the pain.

She extended her arm over towards the table and placed the end of the blade into the candle flames until it began to glow a bright golden red. With her free hand she removed the leather belt from around her waist and handed it to Daniel.

"Here, you can use this to bite down on."

When Brietta handed him her belt he gratefully placed it between his teeth so that he wouldn't bite his tounge off or damage his teeth. When she brought the blade down he felt the searing pain shoot through his arm and chest. He bit down hard and felt his teeth sink into the leather strap. He had done this before and somehow, since he knew what to expect it was worse this time. He let out a loud moan, then when she shifted the blade he screamed, though it was muffled by the strap. Soon she lifted the blade away and Daniel relaxed his muscles. He spit out the strap and managed a small smile.
"I have had worse, I promise. Now where were we?" he asked. He tried not to move his arm, or to look at it. The burning sensation hadn't decreased much.

Brietta

Brietta hated having to be the one to cause Daniel so much pain. She winced slightly when he cried out, she could only imagine how much this hurt him. Every time the heated metal touched his skin there was a slight sizzling sound followed by the smell of burnt fleash. Working as quickly as possible, she tossed the cooling knife on to the dirt floor of the tent when she was finished.

"I have had worse, I promise. Now where were we?"

She gave him a small smile but could tell by the strained look on his face that he was still in pain. Reaching back over to the table she took the pitcher of water that she had brought in with her earlier and poored a small stream of the cool liquid over his burn.

"Is that any better?" she asked.

Daniel Enex

"Is that any better?"
"Stop." she did. "I appreciate the thought but, that doesn't make it feel any better. Honestly, it isn't that bad. Now, if that would have gone strait through my shoulder then I would have cause to complain." he said pointing to a circular scar just to the inside of the shoulder joint. "That one was bad." she still looked concerned. "That one put me out for nearly three months. I still don't know if my arm is as good as it once was. Luckly it was my left, not my sword arm. Although I do fight with it occationally." He flexed his fingers, he couldn't feel them very well but he knew that they still worked. That was a good sign. He put his right hand on her waist. "Are you okay?" he asked. He didn't think she had ever cauterized a wound before.

Brietta

Brietta nodded and gave Daniel a small smile. She had been worried about him, but his reasuring words and the fact that he could move his fingers had helped to ease her concern. She relaxed even further as he placed a comforting hand on her waist.

"I'm alright. I was just worried about you." she confessed.

Slowly, she leaned down to kiss him softly on the lips. Her long waves formed a soft curtain around their faces.

Daniel Enex

The candle light was blinked out as her dark hair cascaded around his face, and all pain was forgotten when her lips pressed against his. He reveled in the feeling of her soft lips. He never wanted to part from them. He was pleasantly surprised when she slipped her tounge into his mouth. He kissed her back just as gently as she was kissing him. He felt her weight sink down onto his chest as she relaxed ans sank into their heated kiss. his hand moved up from her waist onto her back and hugged her close as they lay in the small tent.
