The happiest cities

Yes, and you know who started that trend? Ronald Reagan. California's schools were the best in the country until he got his hands on the state budget.
You do realize that Reagan has been out of the CA Governor’s office for nearly 50 years, right? Has anyone explained to you that Democratic supermajorities control the legislature and have for years?

For those of us who have lived and worked in the Bay Area for many years, it’s hard at all to understand why a quarter million people have left SF and many more have left other parts of the state. Lol
Read how the survey was completed. They asked residents of different cities to answer the EXACT SAME QUESTIONS. No one gives a fuck why you left. They only want to know what people that live in those cities think concerning happiness. And low and behold....so many people are happier in California cities than any where else. Why is that?

No need to explain it; I know. Has anyone explained to you that it was under Reagan that their schools started going downhill and the trend has never been reversed?

What exactly did Reagan do as governor that makes you think he’s responsible for the miserable state of education in CA today, nearly 50 years after he left office?

His successors have included Democrats Jerry Brown (16 years), Grey Davis (recalled) and Gavin Newsom who is in his second term. Democrats have controlled both chambers of the legislature for all but one year since 1970. They’ve had a supermajority for most of the past decade.

If there is something you can point to that Reagan did 50 + years ago that still lingers today, I’d love to hear you explain why Dems haven’t done anything to fix it after holding power all these years.

Was it Reagan’s hefty budget increases for education that bother you? For example the 105% increase in spending for K-12 schools that occurred during Reagan’s administration? The 164% increase in the California State University system budget? Or the 105% increase in the University of California system budget? Or perhaps the 323% increase in community college funding? Or maybe it was the 915% increase in student scholarships?

This is yet another issue where a citation is needed.

Prop 13? Ever heard of that ?? Happened close to Reagan times? You can look it up
God forbid we didn’t have it now
All Californians would be complaining about double taxation
But? The monies were never returned to the schools

Proposition 13 is an amendment of the Constitution of California enacted during 1978, by means of the initiative process. The initiative was approved by California voters on June 6, 1978. It was upheld as constitutional by the United States Supreme Court in the case of Nordlinger v. Hahn, 505 U.S. 1.
Now? Who was Governor ??

Jerry Brown so?? Not Reagan

Nice of you to offer him some help. He needs it. I’m really looking forward to hearing exactly what he thinks Reagan did five decades ago. I’m equally interested in his explanation of why the party that’s controlled the legislature nearly every year since 1970 and the governor’s mansion for about half the time since Reagan left office has not fixed the problems.

“Education spending increased significantly under the Reagan administration contrary to promises to slash education spending despite demanding annually demanding 20 percent across-the-board cuts in higher education funding.[43] State spending on K-12 schools rose 105% to $2.371 billion from 1966-1967 to 1974-1975. Within California's higher education system from 1966-1967 to 1974-1975, the budget of the University of California system rose 105% to $493 million, the California State University system's budget rose 164% to $480 million, and community college spending rose 323% to $315 million. Student scholarships and loans rose 915% to $43 million.”

No, this is the 2nd time I’m asking you for a citation.
What does any of that have to do with your claims?

What does any of this shit have to do with explaining why Californian cities have happier inhabitants than Republican led cities

Try to follow along. YD895 blames a governor who left office in 1975 for the state CA’s schools today. He’s entitled to explain if he cares to.

Yes he did. See post 23 and try following along.
Again...the purpose of this thread is to provide Republicans an opportunity to answer a simple question...why are there so many happy people in California? Republican run states and cities were asked the exact same questions yet they are dramatically more unhappy. Why is that? What is so fucked up about where you live that you hate it so?

Nope. He said Regan started it, not that he was the sole cause.
Still waiting.
Perhaps you’d like to take a stab at explaining how Reagan “started it.” Was it the hefty increases in education spending? You guys can work on it as a team if you wish.

Not my claim.
Again, I’m asking you to prove either of yours.

And this...is how Republicans respond when they can't explain why Republican run states and cities have unhappily citizens...they talk about something totally different.

Now...the health difference is pertinent because health services was part of the questions

I'm sure you've seen this same heatmap for hundreds of different topics... Education, relgiousosity, obesity, poverty, HDI, health, income, internet access, GDP, etc. Across almost every metric, what the fuck is wrong with these areas?

A letter to the editor of a small town newspaper? 😂

SB90 was bipartisan legislation known as the Reagan-Moretti bill. Moretti was the Democratic leader of the state assembly. Democrats controlled the legislature then as they do today. School finance reform was required to conform with the state Supreme Court ruling known as Serrano vs Priest that mandated school finance equalization between rich and poor districts. SB90 actually raised the state sales tax and corporate income taxes. Leaders of both parties were pleased with the legislation and spending on education increased substantially under Reagan.
