The 'How To' Contest Support Thread

Did you do a sort of hip-shake, shimmy with that?

Oh, the image...! :D

I would if I could.

Such movements are now only possible in my imagination.

As an aside, May Day was celebrated in Whitstable, Kent with a series of Morris Dances.

The first one, at dawn on the beach, was performed naked.

Several Morris teams, male, female, and mixed took part in the day's festivities. This year the innovation was a display by the local bellydancing team.

Shame I missed it.

What's all this bumping business??

Bumping keeps the thread on the front page even when trolls are posting on old threads to attempt to annoy us.

I'd like to bump with some of the AH people but I'm too large and clumsy. An elephant might give a daintier bump.

Blah. You're perfect for bumping. Small and skinny would poke. :cathappy:

Hehe... ah right. I gets ya!

Elephants can be quite dainty you know, especially when they wear ballerina outfits. Perhaps you should try it? And post pictures of course :nana:

It's Official !!

Contest has started :D

Not only that, but this thread gets official recognition in the official thread.

You are all now part of the establishment.

Who are you going to moan about now?

Og

PS. First draft of first entry completed at 1600+ words. Now for the editing and the next entries.

I am very new here (see, no icon!) but am willing to jump in head first and try to write something for this How To contest.
I have one question and I'm not patient enough to read the entire thread to see if it's been addressed:

does our writing have to be of a sexual nature? Can it be non-sexual?

While I do enjoy reading all the eroticness here I don't find myself able to write erotic stuff so I thought I'd get a start with a non-erotic piece.

It can be whatever you want as long as it is 'How To'.

It could be 'How to differentiate between Gerunds and Gerundives' although that wouldn't get many votes.

Thanks, I'd better get started!

Second one is at 176 words.

First one has had the first edit.

How is everyone else doing?

The combined ?wisdom of the Author's Hangout should be able to produce a significant amount of useful advice for our readers.

Can we?

My single entry is finished - but is probably not allowable under the rules as it is in 'story' form rather than 'essay'.

It has to be submitted under the 'How To' category.

I am not the judge of what would be allowable.

However I think that almost anything goes - but the voters do tend to penalise my experimentation which is one reason for inventing the Last Place (tm) Contest.

I would accept 'How to get a date with Britney Spears' and 'How To push my pud up her poop-chute' but whether either would win?

Who knows?

Maybe this contest will sort the authors from the also-rans, or maybe not...

Og,
I thought my proposal would be OK until I read this:
- Your piece must be submitted into the How-To category, and must be a How-To essay. That is, your submission must be instructional, not a story.
Now I'm not so sure. It's the dialogue - a bloody giveaway.
