By Jove, I think she's got it! Thanks, Dr. SJ!

My professional advice is do it again and give me all the details, so I can make sure you're doing it right. :p Wouldn't want you to hurt yourself. :D

I was kinda angling for a massage, though! ;)

Okay, so I went to the dermatologist. He was nice but he had an intern and a nurse with him so there were a lot of people in the room with me.

He decided I have urticaria (sp?) wihch are hives. No shit, doctor. He's fairly certain it did come from exposure to a pesticide, and that it's lingering in my system because it takes a long time to metabolize.

He wouldn't give me anymore cortisone. He gave me some enormous Allegra pills and told me to try it for about 2 weeks, to see if that helped.

Thanks a lot. Meanwhile, my face is now broken out in hives and is all puffy and red and itchy.

:(

Have you tried the bath in baking soda water? I swear it helped so much when I had chicken pox.

Try an Aveeno oatmeal bath (available at any drug store) for temporary help and a liver cleanse for a long term solution.

I don't want to seem like I'm hounding you about this, but where oh where do you think that pesticide is stored in your body? In the pesticide vault?? If it's pesticide (entirely possible) it's in your m-f'in' liver!!

To Do A Mild Liver Cleanse -
Diet stuff
Drink lots, like 80 ounces a day of mostly water. No alcohol. No soda. No juice. Herbal tea and green tea are fine.
Liquids should be drunk at room temperature.
Increase your intake of raw fruits and vegetables, decrease your intake of sweets.
Reduce your red meat intake.

Herb Stuff
Go to your health food store and either find a liver support blend (ask the nutrition geek hanging around, he'll be happy to help you find one).
-OR-
Pick up some dandelion root tincture, milk thistle tincture, and burdock tincture. Take one dropperful of each (in juice or water) twice a day.

Try it for a week and see if you feel better. If not, quit. It's pretty easy stuff to do, really. And it really should help you Carson. Believe me, I see this stuff all the time in my line of work... :)

XOXOXO,

the only thing bothering me physically is a tooth that is cracked and has managed to draw bacteria up above the gumline. It comes out Thursday and then I have to decide between a bridge and an implant. While finances will play some role in the choice, does anyone have any advice for me between the two solutions?

The idea of an implant appeals because then they do not have to crown the two healthy teeth to either side...but it seems to be a much more complicated procedure and probably more costly (have not received an estimate yet...)

*cough cough*

I can feel this cold thing coming on, I was so tired this afternoon.

Meanwhile, I had a nap and now I can't sleep.

The bridge is cool, b/c it is less expensive and a quicker process. I've never heard of an implant and that is probably more expensive.

as it has been explained to me, they would basically drill a socket into my jaw and then screw in a base for a false tooth. advantage seems to be that if something goes wrong with the replacement tooth, they take it off and put a replacement in the existing socket. Plus my two healthy teeth don't get ground off into crowns...

Sounds interesting. If it were me, I'd go with that. Even if it is more expensive it sounds better for the teeth.

I'm popping Ibuprophen like M&M's...nothing is touching it. :(

I'm just coming down from severe allergic reaction to Ibuprophen - hence my absence for a couple of weeks. Serious enough to be hospitalized and still in considerable pain and undergoing tests to determine long term damage.

If you are taking Ibuprophen:
1) Don't go out in the sun
2) Don't combine with any allergy remedy eg Bendaryl
3) Watch out for immediate tell-tale signs of potential reaction such as tingling or rash and immediately stop taking tablets.

I developed huge hot disc shaped rashes across my upper body, numbness in my left arm and shoulder, severe arthitic type pains in left shoulder, elbow and wrist, bloated stomach, indigestion and symptoms of prostrate illness. Been a pretty bad two weeks.

The tablets were prescribed by my Doctor to relieve arthitis pain in my foot.

I understand the future of NIADS (Ibuprophen generics) is under review due to side effect issues, 1 in 10 people suffer reaction of some sort, usually after prolonged usage.

Glad you're back Neon. I hope you get better soon and don't have any lasting effects. Also, thanks for the tips on how to prevent this. I combine the two drugs all the time and I'm out in the sun a lot.

At one point, I was taking 12-16 tablets/day for joint pain. It had my liver all out of whack, too. There is a rebound effect with most anti-inflammatories (and decongestants) so that when they wear off, the symptom returns with a vengance.

I switched to omega-3s and don't take pain-killers at all any more. My liver is happier, too.
