The "I don't want to talk about AI" thread, and the new topic is: let's drink!

I desperately don’t want to talk about AI anymore. Where is rehab?
This is detox. Current topic is New Year's resolutions, but we'll discuss anything.

For instance: if I ever get an earworm stuck in my head, all I have to do is hum the Imperial March from Star Wars. You know: dum dum dum, du-du-dum, du-du-dum. Chases the earworm right away.

Those earworms will just go set up a new base on another planet or moon somewhere, though.

I'm not big on New Year's resolutions, but I am big on setting aggressive goals. My most recent goal was all about my recovery from my knee surgery, which I'm holding up to pretty well. Now I'm setting myself new writing goals, to be accomplished in the next 8 months or so:

*) improve my writing in several areas including more evocative scenes, more natural and varied dialogue, and better ability to show (or tell) characters mental state.
*) four more novels and two short novels or long novellas, which are not particularly targeted at here, although I may post some or all of them.
*) I have ten more longish short stories or novellas I want to write that are targeted at here

I have rough plots and characters for most of these stories in my head already. Just a matter of maintaining my discipline for writing. It helps that I am fully retired in four months and only working half time until then.

Saw this quote, had to share it.

AI is a horse.
  • It is faster than your feet depending on the terrain
  • It is way slower and less reliable than a train but can go more places
  • It eats a lot
  • You cannot simply tell it to go to the store for you
  • You have to tell it where to turn even if it might guess right sometimes
  • You have to keep it on the road even if it usually stays on the road
  • You can only lead it to water, you cannot make it drink
  • A good one runs at the shadow of the whip
  • We are skeptical of those that talk
