Nya sighed seeing Avent wouldnt drop it and said "It wasnt just because of marriage and things werent squeaky clean sir. The last year and a half Damon was a complete jackass to me.He began gambling and drinking and got more and more hostile toward me throwing things and cursing at me whenever i tried helping. I was afraid of him..that he would hurt me. The final straw was when he tried to choke me until i blacked out. ... That is why i ended things"

She cut into the sausage to keep her thoughts off of what happened it still angered her when she thought about what Damon did to her and couldnt believe a successful guy like him just threw his life away.

Avent watched Nya's physical cues as she talked about Damon and all the issues that arose from his addictions. "That makes more sense."

He leaned toward her and lowered his voice, "You have to be honest with me Nya." He took her free hand in his and held it gently. "We are so new together that we have to talk things through. That helps me know what I need to do for you. And helps build the parameters of what you can do for me."

Avent nodded. "I understand." He kissed her on the forehead and said, "The truth might be painful, but we can and will work through it provided you never lie to me again, by either withholding the truth or actively hiding it."

He cupped her chin lifting her eyes to his. "You have today to commit to that Nya. After work you will need to give a firm commitment. If you lie in the future, there will be consequences. Understand?"

Avent worked around the condo for a few minutes the grabbed his bag before heading to work. Checking his calendar he saw that the day was filled with meetings and he ran through the checklist of items he would need for the day.

Arriving at his floor Avent stopped in at his desk and shot Nya and the rest of his team the list of reports he would need for the day. As he started off toward the first meeting he ducked into Nya's cube.
