And when you actually had to plan on watching cartoons. It drives me a bit batty that the kids can simply turn on the TV and have a half dozen options for 24/7 cartoons. And I'd really like to know when the Disney channel stopped airing things like, oh, Micky Mouse cartoons and Disney *movies*.OK, I haven't reached "Old Codger" yet but I'm definitely beyond "pup" status.
I remember watching TV on our crappy, old black and white set. There were a couple of channels that required extra help to come in clearly. We'd take turns. You had to hold the antenna in one hand and stretch out with a metal coat hanger with the other.
I also remember when TV programming ended for the day. Hard to imagine now.
We totally lucked out with 4 because of the Oregon Public Broadcasting station. They still have some pretty good programing - for kids and grown ups. LOL - They also tended to have more kids programing than ABC, NBC and CBS six days out of seven.I'm whopping 27 years old and I can remember the time, when there was only three TV channels.
Ok, ok, there were the cable and satellite channels, but they were of very little comfort for someone who only had access to network channels.
I finally broke down and bought an android a few days ago. I still haven't adjusted to using a phone without buttons. A neighbor and I were talking about it since she's having a hard time adjusting too. We came to the conclusion that perhaps those of us old school types who learned to call using a rotery phone that was attached to a wall might just not be the most acclimatable consumers for the newest technologies.Mee too!
I remember being in awe about an electric typewriter.
And for the first mobile phone my stepfather brought home. Sponsored by his company.
It was HUGE.
There was about 2 years that we didn't own a TV because my mom mailed it to North Carolina. Amazingly enough, it didn't bother so much when books, woods and river were an option to keep one occupied.I remember that, but only cause my babysitter had a tv. We might have had a TV, but we never watched it. Mom wouldn't let us.
Congratulations! Even a wee job is worth being proud of.So I got a wee cleaning job in the bar downstairs. Just two hours per day (every day), but thank God for that! It's payed shit, just 1 pound per hour or so, but better than nothing I guess.
