Stupid! Stupid! STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why, after 3 months, did I decide to text my ex-girl today????????? MotherOfFuck...now I just feel worse...

*pat pat* Please feel better? *puppy eyes* :p

Blurt: <Complaints> My feet hurt, my legs are sore, I can't go to sleep early because I have to go give our surgery dog meds, I have a huge sore on my calf from galloping without my half chaps, my girl-rabbit hates me, my boy-rabbit figured out how to tug open my door, and my feet hurt. oh god my feet hurt. I need to get insoles that WORK or SOMETHING by next Wednesday...if they hurt after being the anaesthetist, they'll fall off entirely after being surgeon!!! </complaints>

<bragging> I galloped my pony again for the FIRST TIME since she dislocated my shoulder...we've bee ABLE to, but I didn't have enough confidence yet! Also, our surgery today was fast and relatively smooth. I messed up a couple of times, but nothing that caused a single bit of harm. And I got free Panera. WOO.

Is it bad that I care so little about football that this would be my actual reasoning for choosing one team or the other if I had to?

Have you ever been threatened with deportation from Alabama?

I give up. Guys just because I am sitting alone at a pub enjoying a drink does not mean that I either A) want to actually make inane conversation with you, I don't honestly care what your name is or where you are from or B) want to fuck you.

Inane PM sent.

His power was pretty super to Black Canary, if I recall correctly. :)

So true! And those fishnet stockings. Oh, Black Canary, come back to me and yell really loud and make things explode! That always made my arrow straight and true!

How did you manage that?

My blurt-
Board meetings usually suck ass, tonights meeting sucked even worse.

I ride English.

I can't remember if you're one of the horse-people here, so I apologize if you already know this information.

This is an English Saddle.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/63/EnglishSaddleParts.png/300px-EnglishSaddleParts.png

Please note how narrow the stirrup leather is.

This, roughly, is a gallop seat in an English Saddle.

http://media.equisearch.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/galloping_position_250.jpg

Here, you can see how her leg hangs in relation to the stirrup leathers. The fleshy part of the inside of her calf is right along the back edge of the stirrup leather.

Your leg (and thus the stirrup leather) will naturally move back and forth with the horse's movements, and, inevitably, the skin of your calf will be rubbed and pinched by this moving interface between the saddle and the stirrup leather.

This is why English Riders wear tall boots. I'm not sure if it was the ORIGINAL reason, but it is the practical reason why we do so now. If one does NOT wear tall boots, one must protect this area of the leg somehow. I've seen some people be really ghetto and use horse bandages around their legs...but the normal way is to wear "half chaps":

Western riders never have this problem because of how their saddles are made. The don't have "stirrup leathers" that hang along the body of the saddle. Rather, they have wide fenders that the stirrups are attached to that hang FROM the body of the saddle. So there's no area for chafing to occur

I have gained some weight, lost some muscle, etc...etc... and my good zip-on half chaps no longer fit over my jeans. This is fine because I have looser cheap-ass velcro ones. but I forgot to put them on. And was having so much fun I didn't realize I had a hugenormous sore until the ride was all but finished...and I was about 300+ acres out from where I keep my things.

Lol I should take a picture of the sore for y'all :p It's the worst one I've ever had. Not wretched as far as injuries go, but stingy. in a bad way.

btw: I apologize if you didn't want a mini crash course in random equestrian subject X. but hey....I was asked!! :p

I guess I'm a lucky duck.
28 years in the saddle and I've never had that happen.

I am so jealous, 300 acres. We have to trailer to the national forest before we get any open space even close to that. We do have some refuge acres but they are along the river so there are stretches of private property breaking up the trails.

Lots of bag balm! Hopefully it will heal quickly.

Yay for saddleseat with the long-ass stirrups and the lack of clingy calf position that makes it ok to practice in shorts. :p

However...fuck that double bridle and post the trot saddleseat bullshit, too. If it trots, it ain't gaited, motherfuckers.

This has been your resident horse geeks' forum takeover. You're welcome.

Nonsense! Plenty of gaited horses trot. It's just not one of their "fancy gaits". But almost every horse is capable of trotting (with some exceptions, like paso finos). But I've trotted on a Saddlebred, a Missouri Fox Trotter, and watched an Icelandic Pony. All three horses had their breed's normal gaits (Although I only tried the fox trot. when my dressage trainer wasn't looking. Funny how dressage trainers hate it when you go gaiting around a dressage arena...), but you could still make them trot.

Hell, in the fox trotter's case, we were trying to make him forget he could fox trot! Again, dressage trainers don't appreciate it when the horse fox-trots across the diagonal...

He's actually got THOUSANDS of acres. I'm not even sure where his property ends in some places; I haven't been NEAR everywhere. Not by half. After dislocating my shoulder last year, I'm hesitant to ride too far from the road or significant landmarks like cattle pens. I'd hate to fall off 1000 acres into the middle of nothing!! Unfortunately, I"ll be leaving this "facility" next month. I have no power or water (besides the creek), and I need to get my horse sale ready, and that requires an arena with jumps. The facility I'm moving to still has enough acerage to do short gallops, though :)

It'll heal up just fine...but in the mean time it's bloody annoying!! XD

Yeah, some of them *do* trot. I agree with that, but if it's more than incidental, you've got a straight-gaited horse. The square gaits have been bred out of the Saddlebred breed to the point that they have to be trained in. That is not gaited. That's trick training.

On the other hand, the idiots who breed Walking Horses have basically just created a new breed of pacer. It's rare to see a baby do a running walk naturally across a pasture now. :(

Thank you, Steve Jobs.

For the many years of making my life better almost every day, in a direct way, and for insisting that technology serve humans, when so often it is the other way around.

I heard a man in the street say today of Steve Jobs "He brought something human to technology - he brought warmth to technology".

While all this canonisation of someone who was really just a businessman (albeit a very talented one) leaves a slightly sour taste in my mouth, I do agree about the "warmth" thing.

And clippers, and Mrs. Stewarts Bluing, and hoof black, and mayonnaise.
Oh Lord the mayonnaise.

lol!!! She doesn't have to be THAT sale ready. Maybe I should rephrase as "new home ready" :p And not for another year and so :) But if I were to have someone to try her now, if they pointed her at a jump she'd LOSE HER MIND and they'd think she was a crazy horse. She's not, she just loves her job.

BiBun, I understand if that's how saddleseat people view it, but I don't see why a horse who does his "special" gaits AND can still trot, naturally, would suddenly stop being a proper gaited horse. Hell, I would call a horse that can do MORE GAITS as better in the first place. Not to mention that you have a bigger market to resell that horse to. I'd pay a market price for such a horse to use for developing a sporthorse breeding program. You got a genetic line that needs to get lifted up and sloped out? Put a Saddlebred stud on your calmer mares and you'll get some damned fine horses. But I need those horses to trot. And yah...I fail to see WHY a horse that is able to naturally trot is a deficit.

But, if y'all think otherwise, I suppose it's your show circuit :p But given a lot of the other...tendencies....of the saddlebred industry, I admit to not having a lot of respect for its opinion on things ;) I just don't understand why it'd be a bad thing.

The filter between my brain & mouth malfunctioned today. While talking with a couple of people from work about the stress in my neck, a friend says, "you should borrow my Tens Unit". What the hell blurts out of my mouth, "you can use them them for sexual purposes". Well I had 3 people just starring at me and not a word to say.

I wanted to sneak out of the urgent care office with their's when I was going in for my back.

I would do what ever the PT demanded of me, no mater what the pain, because I knew at the end I'd get 20 minutes with that unit on my back. I had her crank it up high and it melted the pain and left me gooy. *giggles*

I went to a physical therapist in the Knoxville area for PT for my back and they used a really really nice TENS unit on me. The therapist looked a little odd when I kept asking him to turn it up higher, and later admitted he'd never had a patient take the full power for the full 20-minute session before, let alone ask for more...

<Shrug> What can I say? I'm definitely not a masochist, but after umpty-odd years of pain, every day, every hour...

Yeah, she would start kicking it up and after a few notches say "tell me when to stop" and after a few more "just tell me when" and after a few more remind me once again. *giggles*

With the third reminder I usually was a bit embarrassed and told her it was okay, even if I really wanted more.

Every night I stand over his crib, watching him sleep, and thank God our birth control failed.

See, it's not that I mind the natural trot thing. It's that if the rack has to be trained, the horse isn't naturally gaited. I say that about TWHs, too, if the idiots have bred the pace into them so hard that the running walk has to be trained into them.

Actually, it's gotten so bad now that some TWHs WON'T gait. Walk, pace, canter. :(

But we TWH people are kinda snobs about the gaited thing. :p

AHHH I see what you mean. I thought you were trying to say that the ideal was a horse that was unable to naturally trot, and HAD to be trained to naturally trot... And i'm like  why is this bad?

No, no, no! I'm sorry. I suck at articulating today. :p
