Tell me about it - my ten-foot garden shed has been blown right off its hard-standing today. It's sitting forlornly, contents and all, about six feet from where it should be

Nightmare!
I love your sig btw. That's my favourite film.

Maybe that's why he likes it? :p He doesn't have other men trying to steal you away ;)

He asked me how the outfit went over, and I told him that I was disapointed and that the corset would have given me a lot more attention. His responce was, "yes, but I dress you how I find you most yummy"

Just wish he were here, or I there, so he could shower me with the attention I was looking for.

I've been feeling bad today, because I think I undertipped a cab driver. He was so nice to me, but I didn't have that much of the local currency in my purse and, because I was lazy, I didn't want to start fishing for more in my backpack, so I just gave him all the change. Which was an ok tip, but clearly not enough in my opinion.

Because he was amazingly great; nice, talkative and polite, corrected my grammar when I had made the stupid mistake many times, didn't even try to take the long route from the airport, didn't overprice and gave me a receipt without having to ask for it! (Looked like a serial killer, though, and I was wary of taking the cab, but as it was a licenced and official cab and I was tired... Isn't that how all the good stories begin?)

I had this problem in Dublin. The first thing Jounar told me was "we don't tip here" but then proceded to tip every where we went. I was totally baffled the one night I bought dinner and he told me not to leave anything. It was really bad service, but my head spun.

Now pondering over the idea of a European vacation with out such a guide, it's one of the things on my mind for budgeting reasons.

We don't tip in Finland. At all. It's really, really, really rare for someone to tip for anything and it's definitely not expected.

Here it varies. I wouldn't tip at a hairdresser's here, for example, but I do tip at restaurants and cafes, although it isn't always expected. In some more high-end places it's not expected and sometimes even seen as very low-class. If the service in a restaurant or a cafe is less than stellar (as it often is...), I just round up the cheque and don't leave anything extra. If the service is great, I'm happy to leave an extra tip, as well. And in the case of that cab driver, the service was the best I've gotten here.

Coming from a culture, where tipping just isn't done, it's sometimes hard to navigate through the whole paying the bill scenario in different countries. :)

The boyf distributing his annual professionally printed and bound "family wall calendar" to each member of his humungous family, and showing it to me just before he did so. For each month, he uses a blown-up photo of members of the family taken during the previous year.

Smile no. 1: For the first time, I am on the calendar. This comes a s huge surprise - I have only ever seen on the calendar actual members of the family, by blood or marriage, before - and to put this into context, we'd been together over 2 years before he even admitted to anyone that I exsisted - which he only did admit about a year ago. We are Mr and Ms August 2012, and I am shown cuddling with him, on Brooklyn Bridge. Makes me feel warm inside to be included on the family-only calendar that all family members hang on their walls. Especially given he is still married to someone else, legally, and we don't even live together!

Smile no. 2: It's a horrible photo of me - very unflattering. I hate it. When I said so to him, he was astonished and said he thought I looked lovely in it. Love is blind lol.

If Eire is anything like the UK, it will go like this -

Never tip in hotels

Always tip cab drivers (approx 10%)

Tip in restaurants (about 10% to 12%) unless the service has been remarkably bad

Tip beauticians and hairdressers (about 10%)

Never tip with cash in bars but VERY (VERY) occasionally, tell the barman or barmaid keep enough of your money to buy themselves a drink (usually "... and have a one yourself" at the end of the listed drinks being ordered.) Mostly we only do this to bar staff that we are actually friends with or know really, really well cos it's our local pub and we go there most nights.

Yeah, that's about what I experienced with him, though since he was the one forking the cash over, I didn't impose as to how much the bill was nor how much the tip came out to. I just noticed that he did tip via a glance at the total that I usually only caught out of the corner of my eye.

We only went to two pubs that I remember, and both times were for lunch rather than a drink. At the time, I didn't really drink much at all. The pint and half pint I had at the Guniess warehouse and the pinacolada I had at one restaraunt was more than I had in 4 months, let alone one week! Though it will probably be on the agenda this time as 1)I enjoy drinking socially now and 2) there's a whiskey I was introduced to this past Paddy's day that can not be bought here that I'm hoping to get my fill of while I'm there...and bring a couple of bottles home with me. :D

OK, what the f*** is MRSA?
I know it's a staff infection that is very resistant to antibiotics, but isn't (wasn't) there something in the news recently about an outbreak of it?

My brother may have it - his face blew up like a balloon, and 3 rounds of intravenous antibiotics haven't helped, but his white cell count is good.

MRSA is a very nasty staph infection, it is pretty much always out there, especially in hospitals. It's also becoming more common in locker rooms and other athletic facilities. Outbreaks are regional, though - it's not like swine flu where it can be national. I hope your brother is okay!

I hope your brother heals up alright, gypsy! I was lucky and caught a minor MRSA infection early and it cleared up pretty readily with the right drug. If they can figure out exactly what bug he has (assuming they don't know FOR SURE it's MRSA), and what antibiotics it's sensitive to, I'm sure he'll turn out alright :)

Sidewalk 1, old cellphone 0.

Now trying to figure out the new phone, which keeps yelling "Droid" at me in a very robotish, all-your-base-are-mine kind of voice.

Okay, name one thing better than an afternoon consisting of a hard workout, a massage, and Thai food.

Okay, sure. But name a second thing.

Thanks so much, Etoile & bbe! They still don't know what it is, but they HAVE ruled out MRSA!! YAY!

Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me ^_^

Well tomorrow anyway

Here's to the grandest of birthdays to you, Mz!!!
Salute! *clink*

*muses* I'm going to make a guess that it's an anaerobic infection that's going to need some randomass antibiotic like vancomycin. I'd be interesting in hearing the final diagnosis whenever they get one!

Sometimes I love folks who don't think out their first few posts here, and how to express and present themselves effectively.

They give me an extra outlet for my sadism.
