To finding someone who lights you up... Yay!

To facing your fears and maintaining your momentum of healing... Yay x 2!

To valuing yourself enough to not settle for anything less than everything you want and need ever again... Yay X 3,437!

Congrats on finding this place in your life... you are an inspiration. :)

Facing fears and healing had to go hand in hand. Realized the only one holding me back was me. Also...nope will not settle for anything less than what I need to be happy. Life is too short and I am lucky to be here to enjoy it.

Question for the horse people here:

I have a scenario in which there is a character on horseback, with a crossbow, in the woods. It is night but there is some moonlight. The woods are fairly dense but there's room enough for a horse and rider to travel through. This character has to cross a short distance...maybe 200 feet or less...but he has to move as quickly as possible.

My question is: What pace would the horse, reasonably, be able to travel given the conditions. Trot? Canter? Something else?

Thanks!

Over such a short distance on a sturdy travelling animal, a reasonably skilled rider (not a beginner, but wouldn't need to be a lifelong superstar) should be able to move at any speed that could be generated over this distance. If, for example, he decided to move as fast as possible and gave the horse a strong forward directive, the horse would likely scoot forward and only pick up a little bit of steam before reaching the destination. Probably no faster than a tight-strided canter. If the horse was a sprinter (think Quarter horse), he may be able to do a kind of skittering tight gallop, but it would really be more of a skitter! A trot would be the most reasonable travelling speed for the security of all involved.

Excellent! Thank you. :rose:

Ok, i fucking give up. Damned if i do and damned if i don't. i can't keep fucking going this way...

Excellent! Thank you. :rose:

i would like to amend that if the footing is poor (a lot of jutting rocks and roots) there's a good chance even a practiced and surefooted animal could hurt itself moving very fast. I was just thinking of your "Average forest floor", but that could be a different forest floor than you think of :)

If the character was SMART and was riding a GAITED HORSE, he'd do a running walk (or a rack or whatever the particular breed calls it), AND he would move at a faster rate, AND not jar his brains out.

:p

I love fucking with you about shit like this. Thank God you're a good sport.

Not everyone rides TWHs, Bunz... poor them! ;)

I have no idea what any of this means but, if I use it, will it make me look smart?

:D

I don't go into much detail about the horses in the scene. It's a quick scene, and this is sci-fi so they can be whatever I want them to be. Though I would like the horse to be pretty much similar to real, earth horses.

While I would love to tell you that it'll make you look BRILLIANT, it probably wouldn't really make any difference either way. I just like picking on people like BBE for their choices in horse breeds. ;)

pfft i have nothing against gaited breeds. They're just not used for what I do. I still very much enjoy them.

She is right; it probably wouldn't make a huge difference. In fact, it'd probably end up being one those obnoxious details that just derails the reader and takes away from what your story. Kind of like "...and as his sword arm flashed down, he realized that the intricate hilt of this sword he had stolen from a down soilder was in the shape of a dragon, indicating that he man he had just killed was a general!..."

Maybe an interesting detail, but kind of jarring in the middle of a scene :p

Oh, I know. I just enjoy being a douche. :p

Yep, most likely this.

A gaited horse? With private cops, maybe, and golf carts? What, is the horse in a bad neighborhood?

So I woke up this morning at 7:13am when somebody was knocking on my door and refused to quit. It was a construction guy. Telling me that he's here to fix the pipes that've been causing a lot of trouble over the past months.

At 7am!

Not that it wasn't enough that he (they, as it later turned out) woke me up at an ungodly hour, but they actually proceeded to make horrible noise by drilling and clinking away some stuff, I don't know what. And then a horrible scream and a lot of bad words. I went over to see what's going on, certain that there'll be a huge flood awaiting. In a way there was. The guy had drilled himself in foot (I think, I didn't take a good look) and there was blood everywhere.

I almost puked.

The blood is still there, the guys are in the hospital and I have no water in bathroom for the foreseeable future. Polak potrafi.

Sooo, yeah. Good morning, everyone.

I've been noticing some trends lately. Vampires and zombies are of course very popular these days. But I've also noticed manatees popping up more and more in pop culture. (Pun intended - pop...popping)

I think a TV series, probably on HBO or Showtime so we could keep the swearing, violence and gritty realism, would be the best way to bring these three together.

Vamp-a-tees vs Zomb-a-tees. Yes, it would be difficult to tell which manatees are actually zombies because they don't move fast even when they aren't undead, but that could be part of the tension. And designing fangs long enough to be seen under the manatees' snouts would be a challenge for the special effects make up department, but we could always blow the visual effects budget there.

The protagonist would have to be an anti-hero. Not the typical manatee/zombie/vampire good guy people are used to.

I smell television gold here. Mark my words.
