eBay was hacked this morning.

A list of seller IDs, with all contact information was published on the public (Trust & Safety - at least the hacker asshole has a sense of humor) message boards, by seller ID, as individual posts.

address
checking account #
credit card #
3 digit security code

eBay was notified within 15 minutes of the list's start; it took them TWO FUCKING HOURS to finally shut the entire board down, because they couldn't figure out how to stop the guy... who is apparently well known, has done similar things to eBay's security in the past, and operates out of Romania. The message board posts are stored in Google cache, which means shutting the board down was a fucking bandaid... again. Some sellers started cataloguing a list of "outed" IDs, so those effected would know to change their banking information; eBay shut them down faster than they did the hacker.

I should have spent my morning working in Photoshop, but instead, I spent the last hour speaking with the branch manager at my bank, to determine the most conservative course of action to protect my account (since I have no way of determining if my ID was one of the ones compromised) - which meant closing it, and opening a new one.

Sheesh, why is it I am around 16,000kms from my mother and yet I call her more often (usually at least once a week, several hours each time, or she calls me) than the rest of my family who live close by (one sister lives 10 minutes from her and never calls or visits). Despite knowing she is living on borrowed time and getting worse quickly and living alone (completely alone), they are punishing her because they do not approve of how she has spent some of her money and feel it was bad of her as it means they get less when she dies!! WTF?!! One of my sister's has way more money than my mother has seen in her whole 81 years, and yet she is worried about missing out on a couple of thousand dollars in her will?!!

I swear I am so mad I could explode and that is not me at all. I am at the point I am going to ask permission from F to call my mother for a few minutes every morning and evening her time to make sure she is OK. She is beginning to have nightmares she may die in her sleep (or worse, have a stroke or heart attack but still be alive and unable to call for help) and lay there for days or more without anyone knowing, and it is a real possibility. Worse still, I can see when she does die, my sisters both playing the sad and dutiful daughters at her funeral the same as they did with my father who they had also put through a similar process prior to his death because they didn't approve of things he had done either. WHat is the saying? 'You can choose your friends but not your family'!!

Well why is it that people dont think things thru when they decide to take thier own life, last night my Sister in law attempted to take her own life, god wasnt ready for her so she did make it thru the night but now Im exhausted and need sleep.. and am worn out.. All night driving to get family from airport and then home slept 3 hours and then back up to the hospital, the bullet shattered when it went it, no major damage but now to put her life back together...... Damn it to hell..

I believe that it is usually it's because they are too sick and in too much psychological pain to really think things through. It's not so much they want to kill themselves as that they want the pain to stop, they genuinely feel it would be a better world without them in it and/or anger issues.

Fortunately a high percentage fail. Perhaps then some figure out they are glad to be alive. Other's just repeat the cycle, again and again, like some of my loved ones.
