And he didn't abbreviate a single word. From a freaking cell phone.

I hate it when people do this. Haaaaaaate it. Even from a cell phone. Normal abbreviations are fine, but 'l8r', 'r', 'u', etc drive me insane.

And my students now think it is ok to write that way.

No it was real words like "discuss" and "intelligent". At 1:30am.

*shock*

And I thanked him for IMing from the cell, pointing out that as much as I hate it about me, after about 24-36 hours silence starts messing with my head... I woke up this morning to "Good morning blossom. Have a wonderful day and know I'm thinking of you."

*shock*

We still have a million things to discuss and determine and all that before even thinking about coffee, and (true to form for me) the guy splits his time between the house in the Hill Country and DC, plus business travel... but the checking in from the cellphone-ness is a wow for me.

*claps quickly, squeaking in glee*

Yay !!!! Awesome!!!!

I am soooo happy for you CutieMouse :)

(sorry I just re-read past my post last night & realized I didn't readprevious ones, just posted... was still walking on air I guess) :)

Abuse of the language just drives me to bloody distraction. I'm not Wordsworth, to be certain, and have been occassionally abusive in my own right, but the sort of crass disregard that is passed off as acceptable communication these days is simply abhorrent.

Need to hit something..a wall would hurt though. Thinking I should go to the gym and abuse a heavy weight bag for an hour or so. *nods*

And that doesn't hurt?

Nah feels good. Works my back, arms, belly, legs. AND I get the added benefit of tiring myself out without having to beat the hell out of someone who hasn't done anything to earn my ire.

I guess I'm just a baby, but the last time I hit a punching back my wrists and elbows hurt for awhile.

ahh did ya wrap your wrists and use boxing gloves? I do and I also use a belt to hold my belly and core still while I work out. Saves on back strain and the like the next day.

No. I was told not to hit my sister, and I saw a punching bag - so I hit it instead. It worked, I wasn't as mad at my sister, but I was sore. lol

Well good on you for avoiding hitting your sis, but next time prepare!! You'll feel better. :rose:

Definitely wrap your hands and wrists. Doing a lot of bags work without wraps is a great way to slowly accumulate a lot of micro-trauma that will never heal properly. And with some of th ebag gloves that are available these days (combo glove and wrap with velcro), there's no excuse for not being properly wrapped, or at least wrapped well enough.

I use an old pair of Chuck Norris wrap/gloves that I bought some ten+ years ago. They work great. You can get the same exact product for about half of what I paid for it in any major sporting goods store.

For serious angst though, when I know I'm gonna kill the bag, nothing is going to beat tape, or heavy cloth wraps. I remember doing some sparring with a buddy of mine, and he asked about wrap. I took the gloves off and wrapped my hands to show him the difference. He immediately asked that I take the wraps off, as it turned my hands into "bricks" as he said, even in the gloves. The reason it that they really do stabilise, protect, and solidify the hand, for lack of a better term.

As to your elbows, wearing adequate padding on your hands should absorb shock better, and thus keep your elbows safe. I've never had any elbow issues even with the crazy amount of heavy bag work I've done in the past. Core is best protected by learning to breathe properly and doing real core stabilisation movements. Woodchoppers, planks, unilateral pressing, saxon side-bends, hanging knee-ups, etc. The medicine ball is your friend, and you can make one for about $4-5 dollars, if that.

The first rule in boxing is to protect yourself. That goes for training too.

(And I am getting the most lovely visual of a sweat-covered Luna_Wolf in deep concentration just wrecking some poor unsuspecting heavy bag.)

I do ball work, pilates and free weights on top of the heavy bag/speed bag. I used to be a little smaller but I wasn't as healthy as I am now. Didin't realise that I should be using a heavier wrap for my hands on heavy bags, so I learned something new today. And before work no less. *grin*

It's moot point, these days. I just don't see myself having the stamina it takes to box. I was in my teens the time I hit a punching bag. I have to say it's awesome for working out aggression. Maybe next time I'm on prednisone I'll buy one for the house. lol

Sexy Mouth Guy? :D

Pilates is killer for core stabilisation. If you want some truly amazing stuff, check out Ross Enamait. The guy is unbelievable, and has some great techniques and suggestions. He's primarily a boxing prep guy, but his books would work for anyone.

Blurry pic of my gloves, taken on my cell phone

Unwrapped gloves, also blurry, stupid phone...

Oddly enough, even after ten years, putting on the gloves still causes an immediate response in me. The last time I put on gloves and my wrestling shoes, wow, huge aggression. Heart-rate increased, adrenals start working, I started showing teeth, flexing my hands, and my sparring partner decided that he'd pulled a calf muscle or something while warming up :D

And I'll hold you to that promise of a photo!

Uh, heh, somebody was paying attention *blush*

Yep, that sparring partner is one of my best friends, and has known me for better than a decade. He knows me too well sometimes, and knew that he was about to get rolled with the mood I was in

I love it!

I'm in a foul mood. Something to do with being busy as fuck, sick as hell and getting no sleep that feels like actual rest.

As for you who volunteered?

I wuv you!

So, I'm both sweet and sour!

*chuckles*

OMG I love getting little messages out of the blue like that. Doesn't take much, but just a little "good morning pet" can turn my whole morning around. Even if my day is already half over by the time I get it. *giggles*
