Summer is here. We had a good run at spring. Stayed cool for quite sometime. Now, the suns wrath is upon us. I'm almost cherry red in spots and my face burns with sun, sweat and grime. Rail dust is a fine abrasive that seeps into every pour of your skin. Old timers teeth, all ground to nubs. Eyelids chaf and have micro abrasions, sweat burns like acid. Let's not talk about lungs. Given enough time and effort, I could probably cough up an anvil. Or at least a useful hammer.

So it goes, my 28th summer. 14 more until I am free.

That got dark really quick, but a nice recovery at the end.

I actually believe there was a medical condition involved, and the woman’s healthcare aides were neglecting to assist the woman with basic cares relating to depilation.



It was kinda sad, really. If I hadn’t been so young at the time, and had I developed a better grasp of what I now consider to be neglect, I would have intervened and reported the incident to someone. After getting over my initial shock at seeing that much hair on someone’s legs, I remember thinking how miserably hot that woman must have been on that hot day.

It was wrong on many levels.
