The Last Daughter of Krypton OOC

Because you're assuming this sexual tension existed before in the actual literature and not just conjured up in the minds of obsessive fans. If that were the case then I'd agree with you. "Theories" do not count. What the author wrote does. People can't just make shit up and then call it canon then get annoyed when a new fiction based on those works does not follow these theories.

People get annoyed at lots of things, and often do.

I did say this was in my humble opinion, and my brain is not often known for making sense.

On the other hand, Robert Downey Junior and Jude Law intentionally seeded their peformances with tells that would go to support said theories, and the fans saw that devotion and respect to the fanbase and embraced them for it.

if only it was true....

So I saw "Arrow" today.

...interesting.

IMHO, it didn't suck. (But then, I've always been easy when it comes to bowmen and parkour, and this was a bowman who did parkour.)

They've taken some interesting liberties with the mythology, not the least of which was a very interesting decorative item on the beach of the island.

Also, apparently, this version of Ollie has a very different and more antiheroic morality, though apparently it's for pragmatic reasons.

I kind of grumbled that they seemed to have nerfed a particularly frightening character from the comics canon, but it was also kind of cathartic getting to see him get his ass kicked so thoroughly.

Anyway, first episode, I give it a 7 out of 10, excited for next week.

didn't watch it. idk personally i think its to soon after Smallville to try and redo a character that was actually pretty prominant in that show. Although i just recently heard that since David Kelly's attempt at Wonder Woman failed that the CW was looking into a smallville type of show for her.

I would have loved to have this be a spin-off and have had Justin Hartley reprise his role, DGMW, but I also think your "too soon" is a bit arbitrary, and that you're missing out as a result of misplaced principle.

If they wanted to have another shot at Wonder Woman, I'd be all for that.

And now I've just watched "Beauty and The Beast."

Kinda cool. Reminiscent of the comic series Gotham Central, in a good way.

My memories of the Linda Hamilton/Ron Perlman series from the 80s on which the show is based are vague at best, but fondly remembered... and while I do miss the more romantic flavor of the earlier series, I can appreciate the more procedural, grittier take.

I kind of roll my eyes at the fact that Kristin Kreuk (luminous as ever, BTW) is again in a series where she's kind of beholden to a dark-haired man-of-mystery type who by definition will always be bailing her out of jams. But on the other hand, just as Lana Lang learned to kickbox, this new Detective Chandler kicks plenty of ass in her own right and I wouldn't precisely classify her as a damsel in distress.

The modernized premise behind this new Vincent's "beastly" nature is kind of derivative, but also archetypal, and it synchronizes with the current zeitgeist.

6.5 out of 10, I'll probably be watching it again next week.

(Hope they get Perlman to cameo somewhere.)

I have to drop it a bit lower. Maybe around a 2.0 or so. My reasons come from the incongruities and unrealistic portrayals of law enforcement and military figures in this first episode. I know, I know, it's just a TV show, but even still I do expect some mediocrity of realism.

Kristin Kreuk did a good job as Lana in Smallville, but she was ultimately (and rightfully) eclipsed by Erica Durrance as Lois. I don't like her in this new show at all. I probably won't watch this show anymore.

Now, Arrow, on the other hand....oh hell yeah!

Woah. That's a pretty low score!

I guess I miss the details on this stuff; all I have to draw from in procedurals is other procedurals, don't have much real-world knowledge of law-enforcement functionality. Compared to other shows, it seemed fairly in-tune, at least as far as my aforementioned P.O.V. could tell.

Glad to get your perspective on it.

Kristin, on the other hand, I have to disagree with you there, no offense. If this episode had a weak point, it wasn't her-- though, of course, she might not be able to maintain that (perceived) strength over the course of the series, only time will tell.

But Arrow was good?

I laughed out loud at one particular incongruity but overall I loved the crap out of it.

Really happy to see Paul Blackthorn in it! Loved him in "Dresden Files" and that one Christmas episode of "Warehouse 13."

They're still up on The CW's website. That's how I watched 'em.

If you're interested.

(Though, knowing The CW, they probably won't be up there for very long.)

As you're a sometime writer of lycanthropes, I'd be interested in your opinion of Vincent from "BATB."

I thought Arrow was pretty good.

I don't really know enough about the DC Comics character to know if it should have been better (or worse).

I mean, it's no Game of Thrones....

It was pretty good!

It served its purpose.

Also, what is Dead cannot die.

It's an okay for a new 52ified version of the original B&tB..... The one with Linda Hamilton from 1995ish........
