Mmmm, I've had sooooo much fun these past few months. I've actually lost count of the number of guys - and other women - I've been with lately! :giggle:

My husband and I, along with another couple, are actually thinking of buying an RV and checking out all these rumors we've all been hearing about how lifestyle friendly many RV parks are these days. Liz, Nevada alone is three tines the size if the Irish Republic. If I were to tell a European that I wouldn't think twice about driving to a highly-recommended restaurant 60 miles away, not only would (s)he wait for me to say, "Just kidding!" (I'm not and I've done it), but it would become manifestly clear why (1) Americans expect gasoline/petrol to be as inexpensive as possible (and for that to be a major policy imperative for the federal government), but (2) why Americans use so much energy and release so much CO2 per capita.

England is lousy with railways. I'm not sure about Ireland. @ShaneoD, what about it?

Back in the day, I had a GF 250 miles away and another 400. We Americans are just different.

You're probably right. We do take cheap gas for granted and even expect it. I can't believe all the giant pickup trucks and SUV's on our roads! It really is sad. We do need to change.

So many things here, I work with people from South Africa and Malawi that tell me the roads are better at home (narrowest roads ever apparently). You're looking at 90 minutes to make that 60 mile drive here, and I live close enough to the motorway/highway. (For anyone who cares she lives more than 150 away). Our diesel prices are about €6 a gallon.

Our trains are atrocious, we go to Britain and think they are ridiculously efficient. Our public transport is terrible.

Long distance can be easier with people in other countries as opposed to someone living in the west, they're lucky to get phone reception in certain places

Actually I still consider myself a newbie to the "lifestyle" - but I'm always eager and ready to learn more! :giggle:

I have certainly asked myself all those questions about a thousand times already though. It's a slippery slope with friends, but sometimes friends are easier to trust than strangers so it's worth all the sleepless nights wondering if, and if so, when?
