I think thats a good point. I think we can all agree that the same crew is a bad idea, but yeah, we could try for the same dynamic. that becomes tricky in and of itself, though. We'll definitely want to be creating our characters together then, if we are really creating a 'whole'

If we go with a theme that the characters are all alliance troops branded as traitors on the run, I would think they might be from the same unit. So they would know each other relatively well, yeah? At least well enough to have worked together?

But I'm not sure that really makes them close. Y'know?

I do really like Vail's idea, and I agree that it probably wouldn't make them close. It's a tricky line, because I feel like the whole close crew element is (probably?) is not going to be as interesting to write as a lesser defined interaction.

Er, wait, not as interesting--maybe a little harder to do? It would definitely need a lot more planning, Vail is right. Vail is always right, I think. So now we're back at square one on that because I could really write either way.

I'm seldom going to argue with someone who says I'm always right...
grin
But here's what we want to consider...
There are really a few aspects to doing a thread like this:
1. The characters
2. The dynamic
3. The themes
4. The universe
You really have to decide which of these (or parts of these) you want to use from the show. And, also at some point, you have to decide if you are using enough of the show to warrant any relation to the show.
Or, in other words, "Do we want to do a Firefly thread, or do we want to do a galloping space-adventure rogue thread?"
You're wonderful for thinking about all of this. And having wonderful thoughts. You're just all around wonderful.

yes, exactly. Although I really do think there are enough elements that we're utilizing that are Firefly derived that it's probably going to be that kind of a thread. We wanted to involve reavers somehow, at least we were just talking about that. The unit, ship, what have you. I mean, fuck, me and Lily were just talking about asking someone she knows about Chinese phrases...

Not that space operas aren't fantastic in and of themselves. I just think we love that universe a little much to let go of it. At least, that's what I think we're saying.

No but seriously. Do we agree on that part or are you guys thinkin' something else?

I'm good at going with a flow. I'm thinking that the characters won't be from the show, since we are not doing cannon. If we are going to try to stick to Firefly, I imagine the show will have the most impact on the theme and the universe.

No arguments here :)

Yay!

We should definitely involve the reavers. They are fascinating and terrifying.
I also agree that it should be a Firefly thread, I was just listing off the things to consider that run from, well, doing something totally separate to, I suppose, simply writing out an already done episode.
And I think that there are certain things that define the Joss-ness of the show that, since we are not-Joss, we may just have to leave out (more than simply being not-Joss, we AREN'T writing a script...we are more along the lines of improvising a play...not at all the same thing)

I just want to kiss you. But I'll have to pick myself up off the floor first...

I think that's really important to consider. I'm having a really hard time articulating what I see in my head for the story but I can picture it, I guess, is all I can say. I think the Chinese part was partially out of facetiousness and also because, hey, when talking about Firefly it can be hard not to start going AND THEN THIS PART WAS AWESOME AND THAT AND AND.

Heh. I crack myself up.

Although talking to Lily, I do think the whole Occidental-Chinese fusion is pretty integral.

Yay!

You're adorable, sugar.

She blows Vail a kiss goodnight

So ultimately we want a baseline story, yeah? Do we maybe want to almost focus the thread around the reavers?

I was actually just pondering about that, sorry, I got sucked into watching on Netflix. Heh. Lily and I both kind of said "we should do reavers!" in a moment of brains matching up perfectly. The reavers leave so many possibilities.

They do. And they were only really briefly explained with the end of Serenity. But there is still a lot that could be done with them. What if we kind of went with a timeline of being a few months after Serenity? Politics would be in an upheaval while the Alliance tried to recover from that. Would give us lots of room.

Yeh, that's a good point. I don't know. I just really think they should be involved, in one way or another.
This brings up another good point. Is this post Serenity or pre?

P.S. we should move this to an OOC thread before Vivi shows up and wonders what we've done to her thread.

The necklace thread with Vail is really badass. Just thought I'd let you know. :rose:
